This is because the VAR will only check the attacking possession phase that led to the goal, and the starting point is limited to the immediate phase, in this instance the corner being taken.” Taken directly from VAR decisions explained from the Premier League website. I'm just repeating what I was told and, to be fair, that statement does not invalidate that - the starting point is the second the corner has been taken. I suppose it depends on how you define 'the corner being taken' - either as an active thing ('player x has taken the corner') or a passive one ('the corner is about to be taken')?
Ginaro
The principle is that once play has restarted, VAR cannot check/review something which occurred before then (except violent conduct IIRC) - therefore once the throw-in, free kick, corner, goal kick has been taken and the ball is back in play, that's when VAR can start checking things.
Charles Stiles
What happens when a player steals his compulsory 10-15 yards, takes a long throw into the box and it's nodded in directly from the throw?

A goal is awarded (provided no infringement takes place by the attacking side after the ball is in play).

Utterly ridiculous. I knew VAR wouldn't be great but it's far worse than I imagined. -

FFS it's got nothing to do with VAR,it's the ref and the linesmen you have a problem with for allowing the play to restart.
