Isma was OK though, he was given a bit of a raw deal by Hearts fans but scored better than 1 in 3 which isn't a bad return. Isma was a good player for us. Scores a few and was a bright light in a struggling team, I'd have like to have kept him. Sutton was unlucky in that we signed him to replace Kyle, who was massively important for us, and he simply wasn't that sort of player. Then when JJ was sacked, Sergio didn't like him and loaned him out. He played a fair bit under McGlynn and Locke and struggled but we were a mess. He scored a few, but was also minging and missed a sitter against you in the LC final and that kind of stuck with the fans.

He could get away with it though as he'd pull something brilliant from nowhere. Issue is that now in his early 30s and he doesn't get away with being a non-worker as we saw at Livi.

Whereas Hay sent in a professional dossier when he applied, McDonald just sent a one liner saying he applied for the job. Hay then talked a good game in the interview and got the job. His appointment was a total disaster that took us years to recover from whereas McDonald went on to have a decent run of success at Airdrie. Me too . Asked him about it when I met him in hospitality at Ibrox . At the interview he said Saints had a few good players and with the right signings he would have taken us to Europe . Which he did two seasons later with Airdrie . I also wondered what sort of careers Sanderson and Black woukd have had a Love Street as they would have been signed instead of Charnley and Elliott .
djchapsticks
You can likely add Jimmy Sanderson and Owen Coyle to that list of likely signings under MacDonald as well. MacDonald might have been a superb manager for us but then again he might not have been given that David Hay on paper certainly also made sense but was an utter disaster. He'd been a success everywhere he'd been until that point but MacDonald had also made a consistent success of things at Hearts. Think the seeds of our downfall had probably been sewn by that point and any manger coming in would have been up against it.

I had a look at the thread and vast majority of folk are reasonable and reckon it's going to be a hard game and a point would be a good result in the circumstances. You always get one of two folk who simply don't understand football though like your man in the photo who thinks that we 'park the bus' at home and clearly has never watched us or the understands the high pressing game we play.

This is what John Collins said about us on Sportsound before the Hibs game this season. And he gets paid public money to talk about our league. It's probably a good thing that we've flown under the radar a bit. 'Chase and niggle' I think is a fair enough comment (not sure about surrounding the ref and rolling about but I am biased). We're a bit more than just chasing and niggling though as some of the goals we've scored this season will testify.

We're a bit more than just chasing and niggling though as some of the goals we've scored this season will testify. For years, other teams have been a lot more streetwise than we have and it used to frustrate the life out of me why we weren't playing the game so to speak when other sides clearly did. That has definitely changed a bit under Robinson. I don't agree with us being in ref's faces at all nor rolling about but we're clearly a horrible team to play against and I love that we are. The issue is that a few daft folk still think we are playing like we're sitting in for a 0-0 every week and getting a smash and grab. Saturday is the first example of a ground out 1-0 I can remember by us and whilst characteristic of the squad, definitely wasn't a typical Saints performance.

How do we beat you? Would we be better sitting in trying to keep a clean sheet then trying to hit you on the break to try and sneak a goal?

Any team who has beaten us at home in last 12 months (Killie, Hibs, Rangers, Celtic) have all done so by just throughly playing us off the park. Even Killie in the draw earlier that season were also comfortably better than us. A lot of our supporters would say we werent on our game against Killie and Hibs especially and whilst that may be true, both played some really good stuff against us. Neither sat in, neither sneaked past us. But then I've seen teams coming to SMISA, doing the same and us picking them off.

tam the bud
Had to laugh at the comment saying we try to get other players booked and always get away with it We certainly failed last Sat with saint getting 5 played booked to none for Motherwell
pozbaird
Intimidation, harassing the officials, niggling opponents, booting opponents, diving, cheating… Absolutely, it’s always been the St Mirren way. It’s why the SMiSA has trumped those mental Turkish or Greek stadiums in the ‘Welcome to Hell’ stakes, and visiting teams shit themselves on the team bus before they’ve arrived. My arse. MenstrieSaint
I see St Mirren as a team that play football the proper . We get very little from referees and our players are often booked for their first foul . Only reason why Motherwell put us under pressure is because the referee constantly gave free kicks against us every time a Motherwell player slipped . If we have a fair and neutral referee on Saturday Hearts will struggle to beat St Mirren .
