Boo Khaki Posted September 22, 2023 Share Posted September 22, 2023 Thing is, if you try and rotate your body while in the middle of the tackle so you don't land on top of the QB, they'll flag you anyway because that usually ends up looking like you 'slammed' them to the ground. Then there's the nonsense of Edge rushers getting around the OT by going low, only to be flagged for a low hit because they grab the QB around the waist. If you got clobbered at the point of making the catch, that's because you made a choice, not because the defender did anything wrong. The reason it became a thing is because modern O's idea of 'open' is nothing remotely resembling what it once was. They throw passes that would never have been thrown in days gone precisely because they'd have got someone hurt. Our inability to get off the field on 3rd down has been the biggest factor in this game. Purdy hasn’t even been that good and they still have a 2 score lead.
