That was the rumour but McGhee always insisted that there was 'still room in the top flight for a proper manager' and he wanted to stay on to reach his beloved 1,000 game mark whereas in the Championship 'you need more of a coaching manager'.

Think it's just a case that Levein is a bit old to be taking the training every single day, isn't meant to be held in a great regard by his players generally anyways and it'd be good to have someone younger do that side of things for him. So the more stand offish style of management will suit him.

I still think he's a good manager tbh. Negative and dated? Yeah, definitely but doesn't mean he's finished either.

Leveins pretty much confirmed Kirk will take all the training im sure, i just hope its Levein whos actually making the decisions and we're not treated as just a top level apprenticeship for Kirk.

Ive zero problem with Levein letting Kirk do all the training while he simply oversees and makes the actual decisions, for clarity.

I think it's always been his style. Pretty sure Peter Houston did much of the training when he was manager at United.

It used to be a common practice.

Alex Ferguson's assistant was responsible for most of the training for example.

Craig Levein is a proper football man and won't be talking about "philosophies" or false full-backs or inverted goalkeepers. This is a refreshing appointment and exactly the sort of thing that Scottish clubs should be doing more often.

Its something i've been ranting about regarding Saints for a while.

More so under Davidson but.... its all good and well aiming to play passing football etc but having the likes of Gordon and Considine taking the ball constantly from the keeper is painful. Clubs just drop deep and wait for the ball to be gifted back to them.

Saints need to play to the strength's of the players they have, not a managers philosophy!

Excellent stuff, I'd thought my reasons to dislike Levein had ended years ago. Mind you, relegating Hearts and then relegating St Johnstone will go some way to fixing that!

This is a going to be absolutely hilarious to watch. An absolutely shite appointment and seeing this mob go down with Avril at the helm is going to even more entertaining. Total hoofball incoming.
