2426255 Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 This should be out in a week or two, so I thought I'd post a table of how the players got on just statistically to help people decide although I have a feeling it's going to be a slam dunk for Scott McTominay this year and it's hard to argue with that. There wasn't a shortage of outstanding performers in 2023 to be fair. Special mentions from me for: McTominay, McGinn and Christie for playing in every game. McTominay, McGinn, McGregor and Porteous for playing over 75% of the minutes available. Robertson, Hickey, Hendry, Tierney who had their game time reduced through injury but who still deserve to be up there for the vote for how they performed - especially the Robertson and Hickey. Hickey, Porteous and Gunn for establishing themselves. 1 Quote
velo army Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Robbo or McTam for me. Both standouts but Robbo shades it. 2 Quote
PSJ.84 Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 I’d probably go for Hickey but struggled between him and Robertson. McTominay will win it and I’m absolutely fine with that, though. 1 Quote
HuttonDressedAsLahm Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 There have been superb performances across the side. Robertson and Hickey have been superb. Porteous has barely put a foot wrong since making his debut 12 months ago. Couldn't vote for anyone outside McTominay with the year he's had. Equals the greatest campaign scoring record, without a penalty or running up a score on a real minnow. 2 Quote
BB_Bino Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 Simply has to be McSauce. Yes there have been others that have been superb but he came up with this big moments when needed and played just as well as our best. 2 Quote
Pie Of The Month Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Nominees are out: Andy Robertson Angus Gunn Callum McGregor John McGinn Ryan Porteous Scott McTominay https://www.scottishfa.co.uk/scotland/ee-mens-player-of-the-year-2023/ 2 Quote
deadasdillinger Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Voted McSauce. Wonderful b*****d. 0 Quote
2426255 Posted December 16, 2023 Author Posted December 16, 2023 Voted for McGregor. Doubt he'll win it, but he's an unsung hero in our team so he can have my vote. He was also nominated in 2022 along with McGinn which demonstrates his consistency of performance. Spoiler Hard to take anyone out from that list, but Hickey unfortunate to miss out. 1 Quote
Virtual Insanity Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 A lot of honourable mentions but has to be McTominay. Pretty scandalous that Hickey isn't on there but he'll win a few of these over the next 10 years. 0 Quote

I'd have put Hickey in ahead of at least three of them to be honest but its still McSauce anyway. Easiest call since time began. 1 Quote
Pie Of The Month Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Gunn deserves some sort of "thank f**k you exist but you aren't player of the year" award. 3 Quote
Alan Twelve Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 First thought was McTominay, but I voted for Robbo. Scotland's best player and so consistently excellent that I think it's sometimes taken for granted. 3 Quote

velo army Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 It makes a wonderful change that we could have four or five different players winning as they've all been consistently excellent. McTominay for his goals, CalMac or Robbo for being no less than an 8/10 on every game they play. Hickey for best young player, but he hasn't been as impactful as Robbo so was only the second best fullback this year. 2 Quote

Yeah, just checking, this the same Robbo who was lucky he wasn't sent off at Hampden v Spain for his "impactful" contribution and could reasonably claim an assist for England too? Albeit Hickey falling over in Spain with nobody near him was pretty much an assist too. I like Robbo and we're lucky to have him but I'd have Hickey ahead of him this year. -1 Quote

Such a passive aggressive and needlessly argumentative post in response to a perfectly joyous post praising the team. The black mark you have against Robbo in competitive games is that he was lucky not to be sent off, but you skate over Hickey falling on his arse and literally gifting a goal which finished the game. That's simply a dishonest way of conducting a debate. "yeah, I think the thing that almost happened is worse than the thing that actually did happen" is obtuse. Nobody played that well against England and it was a friendly which, like the France game, I don't care about. Every player on the list made mistakes. If you think that the award is for perfection then you haven't adequately understood the process at all. 0 Quote
No_Problemo Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Three assists in six and a half games for Robertson this year too. Hickey has been excellent, but Robertson has probably been better. Robertson also wasn’t “lucky” not to be sent off, given it wasn’t remotely a red card offence. 0 Quote

You should have watched some of the qualification games though rather than just the meaningless friendly v England. He was amazing. 1 Quote
microdave Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Another vote for McTominay but all six of them were outstanding imo. I wish they could all get the award. 1 Quote
the snudge Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Porteous just for being surprisingly good and consistent when I honestly didn't think he'd be good enough. He was superb against Norway away and has been a solid 7 out of 10 every game. 1 Quote
