CrispyMelon
We kick off the new year with a home game against Stranraer. Hopefully make it the third year in a row we’ve won our opening match of the calendar year. Stranraer have been a bogey team for us in recent times but we should absolutely be looking to win this one. Be interesting to see if Hale changes things to accommodate Cameron or whether he sticks with the same team again (other than Jones, who I still don’t know if he’s staying or not). Personally, I’d be inclined to keep the same team again. Annoyingly I can’t make this one so I’ll be following online. We’ve managed just five points from the last ten fixtures between the two but with how poor Stranraer have been for the last four months, we should be looking at this as one of our more winnable games. Not sure about the scoreline (I’ll likely make a prediction tomorrow) but I think both teams will find the net. EdinburghBlue
Not the easiest one to call. Having seen both the earlier games this season and I don't think Elgin are anything like the worst team in this league. But like almost every other game in this league it depends on who turns up on the day. Stranraer have been very inconsistent over the last few months, partly because of injuries (and suspensions) with players being played out of position and the bench at times so threadbare that the manager has named himself. Hopefully we are starting to put these injuries behind us, and it will be interesting to see how our three new signings perform tomorrow. We would have been delighted if Finn Ecrepont had stayed with his following his loan spell for the second half of last season, so it's good news that he is now joining us for the rest of this season. Given his performances against us in the past I think most of our supporters would have been happy had we been able to sign Chris Johnston in July. I've not come across Chris McQueen before, but we do need to add strength in central defence since we always look weak if one of Craig Ross/Kyle Girvan isn't available.
gordon9736
After last week's surprising but deserved win, I'm going for a home win. City have a run of games against teams around about them in January so hopefully a chance to get points and breathing space. CrispyMelon
Here’s the lineups. Strongest bench we’ve had in a longtime, and by the looks of it Jones is staying. I’ll go for the same result as last week, 2-1 Elgin.

Super Elgin City
Great win. Golding did brilliant for the winning penalty. Looks a real handful. Great signs.
Elgin Macca
Well that was a tough watch on the whole. 2 poor teams….BUT a massive 3 points and plenty work rate and desire right to the end. we might need a bit of luck along the way to stay in the league and we certainly got that today with the first penalty. How on earth the ref thought that was a foul on Jones rather than the other way around I have no idea. But we’ll take it. the second pen was a stonewaller and you could see it coming with each stride holding took. A very powerful runner and if he can improve his end product could be a big player In the run in! 2 wins from 2! Hopefully the start of a wee run
GallowayBlue
Did anyone else think the choice of strips was a bit strange? Felt there were a couple of times where players got confused, but maybe not.

Maybe Draper's excuse for giving the ball away, leading to Stranaer's goal?
elginer
I may be wrong but I think this is the first time Elgin have come from behind to win a league game since March 2021!
Briggsy's Ghost
Great result especially after going a goal down. Stranraer we’re the better team in the first half but Elgin put in a much better performance second half which is very pleasing as we’ll need to grind out some points in a lot a games in a league that could get very tight at the bottom end. Very decent debut from Golding, we desperately need some positivity when attacking and he provided that well today. Agree with comment regarding the strips - suprised the officials did not make a team change colours tbh.
1993
Stranraer started both halves well but overall think we just about deserved the win but I’m sure a Stranraer supporter will think otherwise. Not a great game but 3 points is all that matters. In a league which is going to go down to the wire in the bottom half with very little separating any of the teams, a wee break here and there is going to be crucial. Thought Golding had a decent debut and certainly looks a good addition. The whole team put in a decent shift. Well done Elgin.
afca32
Vital result and always good to get a late winner. If I was a Stranraer fan I'd be pretty pissed off with that performance. I thought they has us on the ropes the first 25 mins or so, but after scoring seemed quite happy to sit in and invite pressure. It took about 35 minutes for us to get going and Dayshonne started to show the first glimpses of his talent. After that it was mostly us on the front foot, although other than Dayshonne we didn't have too much threat. He looks like a potentially big player for us. The first penalty is a difficult one but I think Stranraer will be very frustrated by it. It's good to go home happy from a game and look forward to some very winnable fixtures ahead.
afca32
Also delighted for Liam Harvey getting the winner. Puts in a shift every week, gets played out of position a lot and usually gets minimal service when he does play up front. Always one of the first to applaud the fans. Hopefully gains some confidence from that.
WeAreElgin
Hard to argue with what Hale said about the first half, where we looked like we were playing not to lose the game. Not a great performance but it's a real credit to the guys that we came out for the second half with that drive and aggression that was missing. Great debut from Golding, considering he only signed on last night he settled in comfortably and looked really threatening. Another good shift from Jones and Dingwall worked his arse off as ever. I'd like us to be creating more chances but the shift in the way we play is really starting to pick up momentum. A vital 3 points.

scott666
!st penalty could be included in a Youtube compliation of poor referee decisions or even an instructional video for referees on how not to interpret the rules of the game. Jones goes in with a high boot and follows through catching the keeper in the neck with his studs, high boot rule applies and that should be a free kick to Stranraer and either a yellow or red card for Jones.
