dolly Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Took a couple of friends to the game on Saturday and both made the same comments about the refereeing. He didn’t let the game flow, blowing up for every tackle. In the 2nd half every foul ended with him showing a yellow card, many of them for trivial offences. Probably missed MOTD writing up his reports Turns out he was being observed by a supervisor and didn’t have a good game but maybe they shouldn’t be told they’re being watched until after the game. I seem to remember a similar situation this season against Hearts B 0 Quote
cowdenbeath Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Aye they book folk for anything when a supervisor is the and not just in the LL. 0 Quote
MrIrvinePollock Posted January 16 Posted January 16 It would be interesting to see the report the supervisor created. Perhaps we'd see the ref in a different light? Half the problem is we want the game ref'd with common sense, the ref's meanwhile have to stick to the rules. I think the bigger problem with refereeing the game nowadays is the rules. If the ref wants to progress up, he must apply the rules. This common sense stuff just doesn't wash with the those who control the game sadly. 1 Quote

I think the problem there is that the supervisors (are at least meant to) have one of the headsets on to listen to the communication between the officials. Don't see how they could do that without the ref knowing. 31 minutes ago, MrIrvinePollock said: If the ref wants to progress up, he must apply the rules. I've seen at least a couple of universally disliked referees make their way up the leagues from lower levels whilst those who apply common sense can get left behind. 1 Quote
Brazilianlex Posted January 16 Posted January 16 A referee warned me some time ago that the introduction of VAR meant that so many refs were needed for the Premier League that others had to be promoted beyond their current abilities to fill the void. I think we are seeing the truth of that now. 2 Quote
craigkillie Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Football, especially at this level will always get the referees it deserves. The way many are treated by players, supporters and especially coaches and club officials at these levels will naturally drive a lot of people away, and then these same people moan about the standard of what is left behind. 7 Quote
Spyro Posted January 22 Posted January 22 (edited) It's almost like the SFA deliberately make it as stressful, awkward and undignified as possible it become a referee, then up the ante if you even think about progressing up the ladder. Factor in the abuse from people who have no clue, being threatened on and off the pitch, being 1 mistake away from losing it all. Then if you eventually do survive to the top, they retire you at 50 and you can't even drop back down the leagues through fears of your own safety! I don't think a lot of people are noticing the disaster we are sleepwalking into. Edited January 22 by Spyro 0 Quote
