Francesc Fabregas Posted January 21 Posted January 21 A top-of-the-table clash awaits at Balmoor as second-place Peterhead take on league leaders Stenhousemuir. The sides played out a turgid 0-0 draw on the second game of the campaign but the Warriors won the next encounter, arguably turning in their finest 45 minutes of the season so far, thanks to goals from Mikey Anderson and Adam Brown. Since that contest in November, Peterhead have taken just 11 points, while Stenny have a perfect record of 27 and have pulled away at the division's summit. What's happened to the Blue Toon? They looked like credible title contenders a couple of weeks ago! That said, I didn't think much of them when we last met. They weren't in the game in the first half and unimaginative in the second, thumping balls up towards Rory McAllister with little success. I suppose coming from two goals down to snatch a point against East Fife yesterday is something to be proud of, but their recent form has been poor and they can be got at. I certainly fancy our chances of getting something, although we are a little short on numbers. Nat Wedderburn will miss out through suspension and Nicky Jamieson is probably injured but Kyle Jacobs especially and Edin Lynch are good respective replacements. We'll miss both players - Wedderburn brings so much strength and authority to the middle of the park, while Jamieson is the ideal opponent to take on McAllister - and it highlights how fortunate we've generally been. The only difficulty is the lack of options from the bench. Let's go with: - Matty Aitken - - Euan O'Reilly - Matty Yates - Adam Brown - - Mikey Anderson - Kyle Jacobs - - Kinlay Bilham - Edin Lynch - Gregor Buchanan - Ross Meechan - - Darren Jamieson - I'm a little wary of this game, given our absentees and I think we could drop points here. I hope not! Let's see how far we can take this streak! 0 Quote
Burnsythebinman Posted January 22 Posted January 22 nicky jamieson has been brilliant at the back so we will miss him but lynch has been a very worthy replacment every time we have asked him. havent seen that much of jacobs since he came in but from what i have seen he looks like he has something so he might see this as a chance to show what he is all about 0 Quote
Hard Graft Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Thought that the club might have appealed Nat's red card. Looked harsh on the highlights but we had an over zealous and incompetent ref to contend with. 0 Quote
Old Fashioned Stramash Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Nervous for today...Fingers crossed, that we can keep the winning run going. Mon the Warriors! 0 Quote
bluetoonscotty Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Expecting a very tough game here as it always is against Stenny. Been very impressed with them both times I’ve seen us play them this season, especially defensively. We’ve not had a sniff in either game really so that will have to change. However, with Stenny missing at least one key player and with bodies coming back from injury along with some new signings for us, I’m feeling slightly optimistic (this will no doubt be shattered by 3:09pm) that we can get something out of this. As long as we cut out this losing silly goals early on business. This unbelievable Stenny run will have to end at some point. As will our poor run. Jason Brown and Joe McKee being out are two big misses but if we can channel the second half performances against Dumbarton and East Fife we’ll be in with a chance today. 0 Quote
Balmoor Boy Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I always think that we have to at least score two goals to win a game as we don't keep many clean sheets. Losing 23 goals in 21 games tells its own story. 0 Quote

One game in that losing run we had 4 guys on the bench, and it lessens options dramatically. Today, however, Peterhead were the better side and deserved the win. The second half in particular PFC controlled. And for a change , it was a decent game overall played by the top two sides in the league. 0 Quote
Crazy Days Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Sadly all good runs come to an end. It will be interesting to see how we bounce back next week. Congratulations to management and team for such an exciting run of games. 0 Quote
Old Fashioned Stramash Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Got to keep our heads up and stay positive, keep the drive going. Another difficult fixture next weekend though. 0 Quote
Neilly Posted January 27 Posted January 27 The game kind of went as a few of us expected in that this was maybe going to be a step too far with us missing Wedderburn and Jamieson and so it proved. Peterhead were worthy winners for me - they were better against the wind than we were and with the wind we could barely lay a glove on them second half. I can't fault the players efforts as they absolutely ran themselves into the ground until the last whistle but we just missed that bit strength in this kind of game that Nicky and Nat would have provided. Best I have seen Shanks today I thought he gave us a torrid time and Hamish Ritchie on the wing really lived up to the billing that I have read about him on here. I am certainly under no illusions if Peterhead did not have the run of injuries they did then they would be a lot closer to us than they are, they are a good outfit at this level. We just need to dust ourselves down and get back at it next week and try and go on another run. What a season this team have given us so far, proud of the lads and they deserved the reaction they got from the away fans at the end. I am sure we have enough about us to not let this derail the season. Let's go again. 1 Quote
doulikefish Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Yip as others have said worthy winners today it's nice to get back to our early season form but still disappointed to lose another goal at the back post from a corner Thought the young team in there new shed were top class aswell so shout out to them 0 Quote

Francesc Fabregas Posted January 27 Author Posted January 27 Today's game was an entertaining encounter between two good teams. Fair play to Peterhead - I thought they were the better team overall, especially in the second half, and they deserved to win the match. Scott Ross and Ryan Strachan were excellent at centre-back and, let's have it, pushed Matty Aitken around, Kieran Shanks was a perpetual nuisance up top, and Hamish Ritchie took both his goals well, the second one especially. They played the conditions better than we did. I think we struggled today without Nicky Jamieson at centre-back. There's a marked drop-off in quality between the injury Jamieson and Edin Lynch, his deputy, who looked clumsy and cumbersome at points. It made me anxious, and I wonder if that also spread throughout the team. Nat Wedderburn was also missed and although Kyle Jacobs had a decent game, we really could have done with the big man's physicality in the middle of the park, especially in the second half. Everyone else generally did well (Gregor Buchanan especially) but it was the kind of game where little came off for Aitken, and the whole team suffered as a result. We couldn't get out of our half after the interval and other than a blocked Euan O'Reilly cutback and a stramash at the death, we didn't look like scoring. Although I'm disappointed we lost today and our sterling run came to an end, I'm incredibly proud of this group of players. Winning 12 games in a row is an extraordinary achievement and one we're never likely to repeat. They've worked so hard to put us in a terrific position at the top of the table and I have no doubt that they can bounce back against Dumbarton next weekend. 0 Quote
Toon 68 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Cracking game today, where I think we just edged it as already stated injuries have blighted our small squad this season, but the fight is always there Scott Ross (captain) awesome first half ! McCarthy bossing the second buchanan still a class defender for me 0 Quote

As much as the latter raised a chuckle might be worth a responsible adult keeping a lid on them but boys will be boys we have all been there as youngsters. It was chestnuts I used to throw at the elderly for reference. 0 Quote

Not good if true I stand the other side but I did hear them serenading a stenny fan with a rendition of happy birthday that had a party hat on 1 Quote
peternapper Posted January 28 Posted January 28 (edited) I leave the game by the away end gate and must admit did not see anything at that time, if there was it needs stamping out asap as do not want it happening. There were loads of youngsters at the main entrance but they were happily singing & i presumed waiting for the players to leave. The club usually acts on these kind of things so you mention it to our office who would make the security aware if there is a problem. Edited January 29 by peternapper 0 Quote
David W Posted January 28 Posted January 28 They've been out at the away exit the last two times we were up and they were winding up the wrong people on the first of those occasions (there was noone there second time to react to their nonsense). It's maybe worth an intervention before something actually happens, they probably only get away with it as they're on the young side. 1 Quote

Maybe you had a couple of prawns covering your eyes so fair enough. They chased the bus through the car park. Security boy did try n calm them tbf to him but was fighting a losing battle. Actually quite dangerous, so close to the bus a trip and one could have ended under the wheel . 0 Quote
Burnsythebinman Posted January 29 Posted January 29 having seen the highlights i thought peterhead deserved there win. we were a little off the pace with the depleted squad. no complaints from me though to put a run like we did together was something special and we all knew it couldnt go on forever 0 Quote
