Artificial pitch vote

Recommended Posts

it is far from impossible to keep a grass pitch in decent condition all season even with financial challenges.

ours is getting played on both by ourselves and Stirling Uni and is still looking great.

if we can manage it at our level then it's surely not beyond the realms of possibility to expect that clubs with far greater resources could do it.

i think top level football should be played on grass.

A very interesting thread. Enjoyed reading through it and some very valid points being made. For me, there is clear benefits to clubs with having Astro pitches.

• Reduced maintenance

• Increased income

• Reduced Expenditure

• Consistent playing surface

I look at Saints for example, we could install an artificial pitch, instantly reduce our expenditure of maintaining the main pitch, and training areas.

We could also then potentially sell off 5 acres ish of land, estimated to be worth around £5 million.

The reason the top flight games on Astro are shite, is predominantly due to the games played there and the factors of the teams involved. I’ve been to plenty games this season in the lower leagues on Astro and watched good matches.

See by no-one, do you mean everyone?

Here are Kilmarnock's league placings since installing the 'magic' carpet in 2014:

14/15 10th
15/16 11th
16/17 8th
17/18 5th
18/19 3rd
19/20 8th
20/21 11th (Relegated via the play off)
21/22 1st Championship
22/23 10th

Admittedly, in the seasons we finished 5th and 3rd we did have the massively unfair advantage of having a fucking great manager. If you take those outliers out, it has been of no advantage at all.

If Killie and Livi played on grass pitches there is no way they would have stayed up as long as possible. The ball doesn't roll naturally, making games a lot more of a lottery. Celtics terrible record at Livi certainly wasn't to do with Livingstons excellent technical and tactical ability.

What a piece of unsubstansiated nonsense. You would be aswell say that if Septic and the Rankers did not hoover up most of the money in our league they would be in League 1

A grown man saying Rankers and Septic. Wow.

When dealing with a childish attitude it easier to respond in language childlike people understand.

We got relegated with a plastic pitch so kinda messes up that argument.

Our home record on plastic was fuckin woeful as well under the dark years of Alan Johnston/Gary Locke.

There's a helluva lot of pish being written in this thread, that is drowning out some good points.

I am still for getting rid of them. I think an elite level league should have certain things that are not compromised on. Full participation in a reserve league. A youth system. Grass pitches. Undersoil hearing and good drainage. Grass pitch. If that impacts the amount to be spent on first team players then so be it. I do not really get how some clubs can argue that their artificial surface is good for youth development and argue against a bigger league and reserve league, when both of those latter things would improve youth development.

Livingston and Kilmarnock are two of the four Premiership sides who bother to participate in the reserve league.

Yeah and we got promoted on a grass pitch, which was absolutely horrendous, cutting up with divots lying all over the place.  But hey it was still a grass pitch so the ball rolled perfectly on it and every bounce was fabulously consistent*.

*not really but that's the brain dead pish that gets spouted by imbeciles arguing against plastic pitches v grass pitches.

We drew 1-1 and beat your mob 1-0 playing on our grass pitch in the Championship, what's your excuse for not being able to beat us at Livi playing on grass?
