Obviously a great result  but it doesnt change anything or mean anything unless there is consistency and not this constant bottling it in crunch games.

I dont want to pour cold water on what is a great result and a rare chance for us to celebrate a big win but anything other than promotion would mean a total flop of a season especially given the players we have signed.

In stark contrast, I've just read about an episode at New Dungheap Park in which Clyde's Scullion was spat on by someone in the home support and (understandably but very foolishly) decided to respond in kind.

So if you prefer your fitba loutish or skinny latte, League Two has something for you folks.

And here it is in all it’s glory…

Whilst the goalkeeper is catastrophic for the fifth, look at the desire from Mikey Ruth to run from deep inside his own half to put the keeper under a bit of pressure. He's done that all season and just watched the ball get booted back over his head. So I'm glad he got a reward. The guy's work ethic is different class.

Likewise Finlay Gray doing the sort of things that got us all so excited last year for the sixth. Duracell Bunny pace to surge forward, then playing a terrific pass at the right moment. Again that just kind of sums up how we played yesterday. The players all worked their arses off for the full 90 minutes.

James Graham, based on early showings, reminds me a bit of Calum Gallagher in his first season or so with us. Ungainly and a bit awkward looking. But rapid and direct. That finish was very Calum Gallagher too.

I feel like I'm stating the obvious again here but we are a much more confident team on a flat surface. We stroke it around well and create loads, from the highlights we could've scored more than 6.

MacKay out.

As great as it is to see, we just have to be producing this kind of performance more than two or three times a season. Especially when we on the opposing end of as many similar results through the season.

This group are playing well within themselves and I think the majority agree that they should be showing more 99% of the time.

Yesterday was, however, much more like it. We seemed much more up for it, first to most balls and we were clinical too! That made a huge difference to be fair. We didn't cut out the mistakes completely, but we punished mistakes hy the opposition and weren't taken advantage of as much as in previous games.

How refreshing, also, it was to see us use set pieces so well. I've been critical for months now on how many we have and yet never seem to threaten from.

This is definitely a step in the right direction, but we need to keep walking or we will still come up significantly short.

I’m sure I remember Blair scoring a belter of a free kick early in the season and was surprised he hasn’t done anything since, considering the amount of decent free kick opportunities we have had.

Re James Graham, I recently compared him to Brian Gallagher, aka 'Galaxy' of the late 1970's.  He had pace to burn too, and you never knew exactly what he was going to do - out of ten chances he'd convert two or three and at least one of the remainder would go out for a shy.  And his partnership with Raymond Blair was easily our fastest strike force in living memory.

My biggest issue with Blair, and many of this squad, is that they have shown to be capable of more than what we see every week. We just don't seem to be putting in the effort and when things have been against us our heads go down and the misery gets worse and worse.

Yesterday was certainly different in so many ways, though!

Very enjoyable game that as a neutral. The Spartans actually seemed pretty decent for team losing 6-2, though McNulty did nothing and they really need to improve on the Pilton Shilton next season, never before have I seen a side whose shortest player is the goalkeeper. Dumbarton as others have said, showed great work ethic and certainly didn't come across as a team in trouble.

Ainsley Park is a not bad wee stadium and as has been said, they were a very friendly lot, got given some free pasta after the match and the The Spartans beer was really nice. The massive touchscreen tv was a bit of a novelty, too.

Edit: pie was shite though.

Was it one of the burnt ones?

No, it was one with no structural integrity. The sides came apart from the bottom so it all spilled out, and it was actually a bit undercooked. The gravy wasn't that tasty, either.

Sausage rolls were decent.
