If we opt to send our centre backs forward for a corner or free kick then we obviously wait until they’re in the attacking position before we take it. Why would a long throw be any different? And in what form would he be “pulled up for it”?
Dunning1874
Morton are very happy to shitfest and timewaste as well as anyone else in this league - though we've seen Inverness, Dundee United & Dunfermline in the last few games all do what we did over our unbeaten run to slow the game down once in the lead - but I think Strapp's throws are massively overstated in terms of the amount of time it takes. Towelling the ball down is definitely a thing that would be very annoying if a team were doing it against us, but generally crossing the pitch to pick the ball up, towel it down, take a run up and launch it in the box doesn't actually take any longer than the usual throw-in rigmarole of winger picking it up, pretending to consider a quick throw-in before dropping it again for the full back, full back stealing yards up the line, then spending another 10-15 seconds watching players jostle before throwing it down the wing anyway.
Jamie_M
Well, Strapp's throw ins are irrelevant today anyway.
Colkitto
Good to see Bearne starting today. I hope he takes his chance to impress

As is keeping Kirk in the team at the expense of our best CB pairing.
Dunning1874
Strapp out is dreadful news, especially with Broadfoot & French keeping their places ahead of O'Connor. That defence is nightmare fuel. I've not got an issue with Bearne coming in really, but it should be as well as Garrity rather than instead of him. Muirhead needs a performance today after not kicking his own arse for two months.

Mayos Noun
Was hoping for O’Connor in place of Broadfoot and Garrity in for McGrattan.

I suspect you are one of many re O'Connor/Broadfoot. Glad to see Bearne getting a chance.
Chicken Soup
This refereeing display has been disgracefully one sided. Bearne being wiped out while dribbling into the box was the clearest yellow you’ll see. The QP goalkeeper was being physically restrained from getting to Bearne by his teammates and didn’t even get a yellow. Then they had a free kick in a dangerous position given for literally nothing and a throw in pettily overturned for something that happens 100 times a game. What he’s been lecturing Oakley about all game I’ve no idea. We’re the better side here but it wouldn’t surprise me if we fade and lose this 1-0 through a mistake.
Dunning1874
Pleasantly surprised by being the better team here. Still a lack of cutting edge but Bearne has been excellent. You can see trouble every time Queen's Park get the ball in the final third, but it's been rare. They're inevitably going to come into the game more at some point and we need the lead before it happens, but Bearne's cutback that just missed Crawford has been the only really good chance, it's been half chances from headers otherwise. Think Bearne was just played in a wee bit too wide from the one Ferrie had to tip round the post, he hit it as well as possible from that angle but it would have taken a goalkeeping howler to let it in. As with every other game against Queen's Park in the last two seasons, we've gotten no protection from a referee who has clearly turned up with a subconscious idea of big bad physical Morton in his head and has refereed the game from that standpoint rather than watching what's actually happening. Bearne and Crawford booked for genuine attempts to play the ball, one of which was never a foul, while Paton and Welsh make obvious cynical fouls and get away with it. Centre forward and centre back compete the exact same way for a header at both ends, when it's Sheridan & Baird that's a Queen's Park freekick, when it's Oakley and Wilson that's a Queen's Park freekick.

Mayos Noun
Bearne and Garrity either side of Oakley has to be the attack. Muirhead has been off form too long and needs a rest.
