Mirren Mile vs Maroon Mile

Recommended Posts

St Mirren fans today officially unveil the Mirren Mile today.

This is a fan led crowdfunding initiative to raise profile on Greenhill road on the main approach to the ground.

By 1st December 2023 Saints fans successfully raised £8,540 through 319 supporters in 56 days.

In comparison the Maroon mile via The Foundation of Hearts and HMFC announced that they have been successful in securing significant funding of £207,339.00 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for their planned Maroon Mile project. (6th March 2024).

So before criticising this project in Paisley in comparison to what will be launched in Edinburgh it’s worth remembering where the idea and the source of the funding came from at St Mirren.

The fans.

Given the pressures faced by many charities including Foodbanks and local community groups it’s disappointing that a top flight professional football club earning multi millions in prize money, sponsorship and gate receipts is securing over £200,000 for such a project.

No doubt certain influential people at Hearts FC helped shape such a grant application and influence the decision makers. I’m sure that project near Tynecastle will look amazing. However I think that money could be spent better elsewhere in Edinburgh supporting more deserving projects.

No doubt some fans will point and laugh at the Mirren Mile but please try and appreciate that it is an excellent project with funding coming directly from a few hundred supporters.

Well done everyone involved in the Marchin On team of volunteers.

A great example of fan led initiative for a fan owned club.

The same group also self funded and delivered this project.

This is a great example of supporters making change around their club.

They most recently upgraded the family stand with murals designed by the kids.

Perhaps @A View From The Terracecould do a wee slot about the excellent work of this fans group at St Mirren? The more we can help promote the work of this group locally would allow similar activities to take place to improve the fan experience.

Btw loved the Alex Gogic interview last night. What a guy!

My apologies - I was going to post it in the match day thread as by total coincidence it is a comparison to two competing teams but the felt it deserved a separate thread as some Hearts fans may not be aware of this.

I’m sure the Mods will find a way to merge if they seem unduly concerned.

Was too early in morning for me to search the forum. Apologies once again.

I’m now away outside now to see if my roof tiles have blown away. 😂

The link supplied under that “name” actually redirects me to the “tin pot” thread. That’s pretty poor posting even by your standards.

He had a poker face when asked about being around for next season, great interview and seems like a sound bloke.

I’m glad we even had him for the seasons he’s been here.

Outstanding servant.

Absolutely no surprise if his agent has secured him a more lucrative contract elsewhere. I don’t think his young family live over in Scotland.

I'm quite liking @RandomGuy. trolling this morning, both here and in the Warnock thread. Certainly more fun than some dry pie charts!

As for the thread, when will the authorities recognise the pulling power of the black and white pound?
