To be honest, that plane interior looks like its held together with parcel tape.

Aye, it's the good stuff they use though. Not that brown sellotape.

Recently I watched the altitude reading when my plane was going through turbulence.  It didn't change all that much.

Maybe by a scary amount if you were close to the ground but not when thousands of feet up in the sky.

Aye, gives the pilots more time to regain consciousness and control, before it breaks up and is dashed against a mountain.

I was once on a flight where we were cruising at 30k feet, and the captain came on the PA to say we were about to encounter some turbulence, and they were going to avoid it by lowering to 20k feet.

The fucking thing felt like it was falling out of the sky for what seemed like an eternity, but tbf to him, we didn't hit any turbulence, and the rest of the flight was as smooth as something very smooth

IIRC When the crew encounter turbulence, they usually request clearance to move to a different altitude (typically in steps of 2,000 feet). Often this does the trick and takes roughly ten minutes.

Sometimes it doesn't.
