Sonam Posted Saturday at 10:43 Share Posted Saturday at 10:43 I really feel, especially looking at how poor England have been when they really should be one of the favourites. There simply is too many league, cup & European games before tournaments like this. Nothing will change, so can only expect future tournaments when Scotland will freeze. This was pretty pathetic though.

These are elite athletes who have access to the very best equipment etc to aid rest and recovery. The current en vogue style of play at the very top of the game is a far greater factor IMO. It's effective, but it isn't attractive or particularly entertaining. Edited Saturday at 16:56 by Todd_is_God
HuttonDressedAsLahm Posted Saturday at 15:52 Share Posted Saturday at 15:52 This doesn’t stand up too much scrutiny. After all, the very best players in Europe tend to play for English teams, and/or teams that get to the latter stages of the Champions League etc. The big sides skip out a decent amount of the Scottish and English league cup, and rotate hugely even once they start playing. Real Madrid played 59 games this season (including 4 friendlies). That’s what happens when you win a lot. The French and Spanish superstars at RM seem to be doing fine. Bellingham may be struggling, but he’s also only just turned 21 and plenty of his team mates are awful too, and haven’t played as many games. Additionally, tournament football played in 2/3 weeks tends to encourage and reward this type of play. Attacking and expansive football can be very effective when you have the right players and when there’s recovery time. As above, defensive tactics are somewhat en vogue, but also, it’s survivorship bias. We’d have seen a whole lot less of it had teams been more successful not playing that way. I also sense that ‘negative football’ chatter is a group-think result. The football isn’t as bad as people are making it out to be. Football is variable and fewer goals than expected have been scored in the last few games. Also, England don’t have to be this bad. Their players are clearly fit. They’re just setup in a negative manner.
Theroadlesstravelled Posted Saturday at 16:02 Share Posted Saturday at 16:02 There was the Euros in 2021, the World Cup in 2022 and now the Euros again in 2024. Burn out is maybe a fair point for players with very successful club careers like De Bruyne.

Chripper Posted Saturday at 22:38 Share Posted Saturday at 22:38 (edited) It would be a legit point if there wasn't just 29% starters of EPL clubs being English. Also, Bellingham and Kane have looked the most lethargic. Neither play in England. The primary reason why England haven't been that entertaining is because they are massively overrated. Gareth Southgate takes a constant stream of abuse for England being boring to watch. Doesn't anyone consider that England are boring because they aren't as good as ths media make them out to be? Pep Guardiola wouldn't take the England job because he only takes charge of teams at the top of the ladder. That isn't England. England are continually reaching the later stages of football tournaments for a reason and it's not cause they are shite. The English media has massively downplayed the whole hysteria over the England team for years now too especially at this tournament where they have been slating their performances. Your example of Pep is ridiculous. He hasn't managed France, Spain, Germany, Real Madrid, PSG etc so are you saying they aren't top teams either? DA Baracus Posted Sunday at 08:12 Share Posted Sunday at 08:12 Bigger clubs don't help themselves with their daft 'glamour' (money) friendlies when it comes to too many games.
