Ludo*1
Well aware there's a thread discussing him but feel a separate one for his retirement announcement is worthwhile. Cracking player for Celtic but genuinely don't feel he's done as good as he should have done for Scotland. Perhaps his Euro performance is clouding my judgement somewhat though.
Pie Of The Month
I'm sure there's numerous examples to prove me wrong but always felt it worked better with one of Gilmour or McGregor playing rather than both and Gilmour is (hopefully) the future of the national team so this could be a good thing for all parties.
Barry Ferguson's Hat
This is just the start of a player revolt against Clarke.
Ludo*1
It's really time (and the perfect opportunity) for someone like Lewis Ferguson to truly arrive on the international stage.
callum-ayr
With the amount of games McGregor plays a season I can quite understand it. Like Ludo says, gives Ferguson that opportunity when he is back to get a fair crack.
Central Belt Caley
I’m absolutely devastated I won’t get to see Callum McGregor passing the ball sideways and backwards in a Scotland top anymore. Truly devastated.
ClydeTon
McGregor's only addition to the side in recent times has been breaking things up in the midfield, but ultimately he hasn't done that for a while. Maybe it's now time to try out a new system, especially with the likes of Ferguson, Doak, Conway, etc. All in and around the side. Clarke should also be trying to Barnes in, IMO, he'd be a great addition to that.
Tartan Dave
Good servant for us. He can look back and be happy with what he did for Scotland for the most part. Him and Jack were excellent together in getting us to euro 2020. Wouldn't be upset if a few more of the older guys in squad retire as well
eez-eh
Was confused reading this at first. @Ludo*1 is more on the ball than our national broadcaster. I wasn’t expecting it anyway. But he’s played an insane amount of games every season for years so it’s understandable.
Richey Edwards
Saw the news on Twitter earlier and couldn't believe it. RIP Calum McGregor.

MarkoRaj
He was outstanding for us for a period. He didn't play well in the last Euros so obviously people will act like he was shite and didn't perform for Scotland the way he did for his club, but prior to the Euros he was one of the first names on the teamsheet. The goal Vs Croatia is an obvious highlight but his best game was probably Spain at home last year. Never gave the ball away and kept the ball better than any Scotland player before him. A key part of Steve Clark's revolution.
AMMjag
This generation's Barry Ferguson, only not as good and not a massive fanny.

I hold Clark responsible for this tbh, McGregor doesn't play like that for Celtic. He didn't play like that for Scotland before either. Constantly see him breaking the lines and playing incisive passes
Jives Miguel
Enjoy reading threads on McGregor, always good to see people out themselves as clueless. Really good player. As others have said understandable given his age, the number of games he plays, and the number of centre mids we have. Sensible decision.

HuttonDressedAsLahm
Surprised - he clearly has years left but obviously his choice. Shouldn’t be a question of Gilmour starting now - he’ll be the first name on the team sheet. Also presumably gets a barrier removed for Ferguson. Not exactly a rebuild over the next year, but certainly a transition has started.
