League Tables

Looking at old league tables posted in reports on club archive sites the league table format up until the 1930’s was W-L-D. Was this a particular Scottish thing as it looks like over the border they used W-D-L from early days?

W-L-D was more common in old league tables. Not 100% sure why though. @HibeeJibee will know

Likely a couple of Victorian pressmen with top hats & moustaches did it that way almost at random and it stuck for ages.

Why do sports publish attendances? Why do we say A v B but Yanks say B @ A?

I think publishing attendances is mostly a football thing. Possibly down to the old system of sharing gate receipts. Not sure if it was ever a custom in club rugby, shinty, cricket or other minority sports.

Very accurate attendances for Scottish Cup ties were, once (?) ( don't get papers now) published in the press as the SFA  an accurate split of the gate receipts, League matches were always more hit and miss
