Spartans v Peterhead

Recommended Posts

Should be a good one at Ainslie park with both of these clubs expected to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season, let's hope the wind dies and doesn't spoil the game

Interested to see how this one goes. They were always very close encounters last season (with one very big exception) so expecting the same again. We tended to get the better of Spartans away, with them having our number at Balmoor so hopefully we can continue to do well in the capital. I’m sure the players will be itching to put that playoff disaster right at the earliest chance but it will be tough as Spartans have started very strongly, fantastic result last week for them.

A starting 11 is starting to take shape with new guys like Cammy Smith bedding in nicely. Obviously still a few key players out with injuries (Shanks, Goldie) but feel we have the depth this season to cope with that. Looking forward to this against fellow title hopefuls and our toughest test so far. Mon ih toon!

Massive game this for League 2 with a couple of the top sides facing off here!

Both teams have started the season very strongly and it's hard to pick a winner

1-0 or 0-1 for me, maybe the Spartans will have had a massive confidence boost for beating Ross County last week.

The car park is usually full but just outside on the street there is free parking almost everywhere.

You dont have to park in morrisons

2 points dropped today.

Would have taken the draw afore kick off but how the "stramash" in the box that ended up hitting the post never went in 🙄

That wasn't even the best chance, the ball across the goal mouth with the keeper nowhere was just begging for a blue shirt but not to be.

I enjoyed the game but f**k me do Spartans shout and greet every time they jump.

The buggers have been doing that for at least 20 years...

Thought if anyone was going to win it, it was us, Our keeper did not have a save to make whereas we had one that run along the line & another that came off the inside of the post. The Edinburgh ref kept his record going of not being  in charge of a Spartans loss i seven games ,wonder if he joins them for training at Ainslie.

First half was a bit of a non-event. we were keeping the ball well without doing much with it. A few half chances for both sides but not much between us. The threat of Blair Henderson was ever present and you just always fear that he can pop up with a goal at any minute.

We stepped it up second half and started doing more in the final third and getting into some good areas. Just couldn’t get enough shots away. Thought we were going to get some more 90+ minute magic, as the game went on we were looking more and more likely to score but wasn’t to be today.

Would agree that we edged the second half and could argue that we deserved all 3 points but was a very tight game and the streetwise Spartans team defended very well.

Just heard that McCarthy has suffered 3 broken ribs and a punctured lung, didn’t realise it was that bad at the time. Will be a big miss and wish him well in his recovery, hopefully have him back soon. Good job we signed all those midfielders!

Would have taken a point before the game so fairly content with that. Still unbeaten and top of the league, so hopefully we can keep this momentum going!

Hope he recovers fully.  However it has to be mentioned that his tackle was needless and the Spartans player can't be blamed in the slightest.

Two committed players going for the ball. Injuries beginning to mount up already and we've only played four league games. Looks like Andy will be out for a couple of months and just as well we have a strong bench this season. We've already had Caleb Goldie, fractured ankle bone, Kieran Shanks fractured collar bone and Rory and Ben both carrying hamstring problems. Caleb looks like he might be making a quick recovery as he's discarded the boot he was wearing last week and playing keepy up with a kid at half time. Shanks has started running again so he might be a bit quicker than  was first thought.

On a positive note, Conner Duthie has been getting some minutes under his belt out on loan at Albion Rovers after missing the whole of last season with an acl injury.

Megginson might be on his way from Cove - strong rumours by some of their fans???
