Montrose V Alloa

Recommended Posts

Take two!

Montrose welcome Alloa on Saturday to LP which will be a very entertaining game with both sides going for top spot.

Not going to mention Taylor Steven or Bobby Wales as they were shite but the rest of the Alloa team are decent last year and their isn't much changes to their team.

Montrose to beat Alloa and go top is my prediction.

Once again I will not be at the game, however I have managed to put a couple of hours aside to take in Dundee Violet vs Roselea in the Midlands League.

Montrose 1-1 Alloa is my prediction.

Looks like we might have more options than last week from the midweek friendly.

Would like to see Rankin start up top if he's fit enough, even if he only lasts 60 minutes. Andy said before he won't rush him back so guessing he'll more likely get 15/20 minutes at the end.

3-0 Alloa with goals from Donnelly, O'Donnell and McDonnell to keep the commentators on their toes

As Long as your defenders aren't getting away with clear and obvious handballs we should be fine

Thought I might be able to convince the good lady to change our plans for Saturday evening so I could get to Links Park but no such joy, it’ll be North End vs Tranent for me instead.

Will be a close game tomorrow as they were last season. Two very evenly matched teams and at the right end of the table. Would like to see Dillon back at the heart of the defence as he can keep everyone around him calm and I love the battles between him and big Salmon.  Two old pros slugging it out and trying to get the better of one another.

Hopefully Hester can take a bit of confidence after his sublime finish last week. Although our recent 100% shot/goal ratio was welcome last week, I don't think it will get us far for long.

Wouldn't be surprised if this is another close one. Will call a 2-2 draw with at least 3 attempts at goal.

Scunnered to have conceded that late goal. That cost us two places!

Noticed it came from a sub and an assist by another sub.

We have to improve our game management clearly.

Wasn't able to be there today. Anyone who was there care to tell us more about the game?

Alloa to be fair probably deserved a share of the spoils sickner to lose the goal so late mind you.

I'm not sure what's up with the Montrose squad at the minute but we just seem to be missing something.Id like us to go into the loan market and strengthen to be honest,in my opinion we need some fresh attacking options.

Sore one for Montrose but I did feel we deserved a draw over the 90 mins. Frustrating start for us, we've been very good defensively this season and that's been the basis of our unbeaten run, so disappointing to gift a ridiculous goal early on. We settled though and were the better side in the first half and deserved to go in level.

Felt we also had more of the ball second half but Montrose were dangerous on the break in a way they hadn't been in the first half. PJ made up for his error at the start with an excellent double save, but Montrose went on to score shortly after with a well worked goal, albeit our defence caught out of position.

Thereafter we had lots of the ball and half chances around the box without really looking like we were going to score. Kept going though and forced one in. Might have won at the end too.

Funny for us to be unbeaten 8 games and yet still looking very much like a work in progress. Getting Rankin back in today was a real boost and young McDonnell looked promising off the bench on his debut. Need the other missing men back and at least one more loan in attack but the spirit in the team is clearly excellent.

Agree with mo83, Montrose looked OK without being quite on it, a bit like us really.

After a disastrous and ropey opening we were comfortably pinning Montrose in their own half and playing that 'right kind' of football. Just the usual pondering up front and sclaffed shots we're accustomed to but Morgyn Neill was on it from corners to drag us level. Anywhere else on the park it's a foul on Buchanan who gets a horrific pull back as he's leaving Hannah in the dust in the box. With Taggart's record that's more than likely 2-1. Montrose brought on Dillon to shore up the defence at half time because before the break they were on the ropes - he did that and despite the many touches Alloa had in the Montrose box noone really found a clear cut opportunity. Montrose snatch another goal as a succession of Alloa players fail to clear a fairly hopeful ball forward and Williamson gets a run to the byline for a looping Hester header. Teed up for a frustrating end but the subs make their mark with a quality run from McDonnell (imagine he'll be a good watch this season) and a poachers finish from Rankin.

BBC Stats can be wild but I'd have to agree we were more creative and had more of the ball in interesting territory than Montrose. I'd say we were slightly the better team without being our fluid best.

Felt like it was going to be a copy and paste of the games at Links park last season, so was good to take something from a game I felt we were good value for a point.

Disaster of a start from PJ to gift the opener but we reacted well and went on to have the best of the first half. Big chance for LD when he shot tamely at Gill but we were looking really dangerous from corners (for probably the first time in a good while) and Morgyn Neill showed great determination to score at the second attempt.

We moved the ball much better than we have seen so far this season but only really created half chances. Looked a pretty clear pull back on Buchanan for penalty shout, but could see Montrose just start to come back in to game in last few minutes before the break and Machedo should do better on the stroke of halftime with his effort.

Thought Montrose continued that in to the second half and started much better than Alloa. Excellent double save from PJ, before a good 2nd from Montrose. Almost felt an inevitability that Mo were going to score there - something I’ve noticed the last couple seasons that they don’t over commit numbers, but when they sense an opportunity I feel they utilise front men both centrally and wide really well. Overhit cross but it’s recycled really well and it’s a good header past PJ from the follow up.

Felt Montrose shaded the 2nd half overall and should have wrapped up the points when Hester was 1 on 1. Not sure what he was trying to do but it was kind of finish that would make you think he had 2-1 Montrose on a coupon.

McDonnell made a real difference when he came on, immediately running at and gliding past players. Early days but that was a very promising debut. Not sure who or how the equaliser actually managed to sneak in but delighted to keep up the unbeaten run, albeit slipping off the summit.

For me, both sides are a level down on where they were at the end of last season, but with the relative strength of League 1 this year, would be surprised not to see both involved with playoffs (at least) come May.

Been no shortage of entertainment in recent years when these 2 meet!

Probably the best game I've seen this season so far, in terms of it being a relatively free flowing game. I've witnessed mostly stodgy contests so far, with the exception of Dumbarton away but that was mostly error-ridden.

That's not to say there weren't f**k ups. Not sure what PJ was thinking for the opening goal ,though can forgive him as he's had a great season so far and otherwise he was good today. Overall a draw was about right, Montrose had the most clear cut chances yet we probably edged it in general play. Can fully understand Mo fans' frustration at them not seeing out the win mind you.

We've had plenty of entertaining matches at Links Park in the last few years, but I don't find LP as enjoyable an away ground as it used to be. Not so great being put in the stand being pestered by jobsworth stewards, despite being sober and only interested in quietly watching the game.

Gutted to have lost it in the last minute but, on reflection,  the draw was a fair result. Could have been so different if Hester had scored when clean through. Fantastic double save by Alloa keeper in second half. In saying that, Cammy had a couple of great saves too. Thought the young centre halves done a great job in handling  the threat of Alloa front 2 despite big Sammon trying to bully them all game.

One pi$$ING off point. Alloa throw in just before their second goal. Their player launching in a long throw was a good yard on the pitch when releasing the ball. If I can see it, why couldn't the lino.
