Thats up there in rock cliche circles along with the one about Oasis's debut album being their only good one, and the Stereophonics being shyte after Performance and Cocktails. Interesting choice of Manics song. A cover version, and a fairly tepid one at that. If anything, the song would fit better on one of their later albums than onf the time you reckon they were a 'good band'. But hey, arguing with the music police is pointless.
