The easy answer is of course England, but there are a few outside contenders.

Russian fans may not make the journey over but during the last World Cup they reacted to a shocking defeat to Japan by smashing the shyte out of Moscow city centre. A burgeoning hoolie/ultra/skinhead culture could see them as the En-gur-lund of the future.

Switzerland has it's own hoolie scene - apparently the FC Basel 'firm' (check me out thinking I'm Dougie Brimson  ) is one of the most respected on the continent, and very British like in it's attitude to fighting and dress etc. Perhaps they might take a pop at England?

Croatia have a pretty mental fanbase, the Civil War in the former Yugoslavia kicked off after a large scale scrap between Zagreb and Red Star fans (including Arkan himself).

The hosts have no hooligan culture whereas the Italian Ultras don't follow the Azzurri. Germany and Holland have well established hooligan problems (remember a German nearly beating a Belgian copper to death in Euro2000 :( ).

Hopefully it there is any serious trouble, the offending nations are slung out, as England and Germany should've been done in Euro2000.

Nope. I remember German 'fans' actually beating a Belgian policeman to death

ICT Chris, that was a fantastic who's who of soccer hooliganism. I assume it was you who voted for Switzerland. I thought you were taking the piss and didn't realise that they had a thriving hooli' scene. Thanks for that.

I dunno if you could say they have a thriving hoolie scene, but FC Basel certainly have some unsavoury supporters. I believe there was a big 'off' (another Dougie Brimson impression from me) when they played Liverpool in the Champions League a few years back. I also remember Gordon Smith (a former Basel player I think) talking about one trip back to Basel where the game finished 5-4 and the Basel and Grasshopper fans spent several hours after the game knocking the shyte out of each other.

SeD, I didn't realise the policeman actually died. Shocking that Germany weren't told to gtf from the tournament in that case.

One thing that may lead, hopefully, to a peaceful tournament is the fact that a lot of hooligans don't follow their national sides (Italy and France are two examples).

Just thank feck the Turks aren't there, bunch of murdering b@stards. I bet there were a few Portugese coppers watching Turkey-England thinking 'Can they not both lose?'

I voted Switzer;and as a piss take as the answer to the question is a wee bit obvious  But stand correct on the Swiss Hoolie scene :)

I went for England as its the obvious choice but I would watch out for the Danes :o

FC Copenhagen and Bronby 'hoolies' went a little bit mental when we were over at the Scotland game, wrecking the pub next door to our hotel and causing a bit of bother outside the ground. Apparently they have a few mad feckers over there.

Also, if the Germans, Dutch and English were in the same area of Portugal then you would have to fear for peoples lives.

England, obviously - or as the poll has it 'england'.

Am I alone in spotting this relegation to lower case, where all the other countries listed, even 'Sweeden' (sic), begin with capital letters :lol::lol:

Spot on. I couldn't bring myself to give them a capital letter.

Having lived in Switzerland and attended many league games, i can confirm that many Swiss footie fans are Grade 'A' nutters. It's the neo-Nazis that are the worst. Scary stuff!

I was at the Newcastle-Basel game this year and their hooligans had to get escorted to the ground with police all around them after they started trying to cause trouble down the Big Market. The "Geordie Gremlins" werent exactly blameless though.

Tell you what pisses me off. England and Germany always get all this shit about being banned for their hooligans, but nothing is ever said about the Turks. They can hit a USA play with a missile, halting the match, kill 2 Leeds fans and cause trouble wherever they go and nothing is ever done. They even lobbed a load of seats onto the pitch in a game at PSG and then PSG got fined and their ground closed because they couldnt keep the order. I wonder if its anything to do with a Turk being high up in UEFA

The English will get the most press.

Eyes open for the Greeks, too.

It's more to do with English hooligan stories being more easily sold to the media, particularly the Western European media. I don't really keep up with hooligan behaviour that takes place outside matchdays in England, but based on anecdotal evidence, England (and Scotland) are probably not even in the top ten of Euro "bad boys." If anyone has some actual statistics as opposed to my hypothesising, I'd love to see 'em.

I would have to disagree about the Italians, there fans antics towards the Welsh were out of order.
