qos_75
Compensation? Will I get compensation on the tenner I lost on the football last weekend? Will I f**k. Correct. If this had been any other business they would have been told to bolt. Remember shares can rise as well as fall.
joozy
I would think that a level of compensation for people who have had their shares for years and years is fair, however. Why? Anyone who owns shares should know that if the company they hold equity in goes tits-up then they are screwed. I can't help but laugh at all those who were talking about 'easy money' all those months ago. A few wiser heads tried to offer cautionary advice but were roundly ignored. H_B
Why?Anyone who owns shares should know that if the company they hold equity in goes tits-up then they are screwed. Correct. The government should have allowed NR to fail, but protected depositors only. Shareholders should have been told tough titties. That's the gamble. As it happens, the nationalisation is now the correct route, given the mess they have made of this. Loving the outrage from Beardie Branson who wanted a no-lose gamble at the taxpayers expense. "If it makes profits I keep them, and if it doesn't you take the liabilities". f**k off Branson.
AndyBud
Shareholders are going to get pennies though...literally! I imagine maybe 10p per share. Not great compensation. To put that in context, Fast Action's shareholding would be worth about £2.5k, down from £75k
H Wragg
What justification can the government give for bailing out shareholders? I genuinely can't think of one.

djn
No way should we be bailing out these people - they wouldn't be giving us the money back if the shares had doubled woult they? Yet again, we see the double standards, where people on the right wing (Against state intervention) are suddenly very pro state intervention when they lose money. It's like a version of socialism for the rich. More to the point though, I'm gutted at my taxes paying to sponsor Newcastly United. It's bad enough paying for illegal wars, Trident etc, but I draw the line at paying for Joey Barton and Alan Smith
AndyBud
I think the term compensation is kinda false though. Essentially the gov't are buying the company, and therefore everyone's shares, which still hold some value (more than say a losing football coupon, for example). NRK still have assets worth billions, and every stakeholder has a share in this.
Dunning1874
The capitalist fuckwit shareholders can piss off. They took the risk of buying shares, and they would have happily taken the profits if the company did well. The company didn't do well, so what right do they have to claim compensation? p***ks. Well that does appear to be the situation. Sadly for them they cannot have their cake and eat it.
