Musketeer Gripweed
Dont know if this is the right forum or not, move it if you want..... But having now seen all the stadia that Portugal has to offer, the atmosphere created, the colour, the heat, the crowds and the exciting matches.... Could Scotland really have handled such a huge tournament? I would have loved it, feel real pangs of jealousy, apart from the obvious problem, the England fans
Savage Henry
Yes, Latvia versus the Czech Republic in a half empty Hampden in a rainstorm... not quite the same, is it!
Deco
I think we would need to build a new stadium or 2... We have Sellick park, Ibrox, Hampden, Pittodrie, Cappielow.. what else? Only about 5 reasonable stadias.
StewartyMac
One of the problems might have been that The three best stadiums are all within a few miles of each other. Pie in the sky, but it might've worked. Christ, if Sweden can manage it, surely we can.
joozy
We'd have managed alright. All the cynics are just people with no ambition!!!

He reckons the Portugese did up all these stadiums for the same amount that the English are spending just on Wembley I'm sure we could have coped - but you just know it had been us there would have been some sort of monumental cock up ! I can't remember - who did get 2008 ? The germans ?
Guest Guinness_Alan
Portugal are no bigger, richer, or better than us and you're all praising them and saying we couldn't have done it. Of course we could! B)

Guest Guinness_Alan
Was it not Austria and Switzerland? I believe there's now some problem and the stadia may not be ready in time but UEFA knew about this problem all along!

RiG
I would have loved Scotland to have hosted such a tournament. ICT were going to get cash to upgrade their stadium supposedly!
Musketeer Gripweed
No disrespect to some of the stadia being touted for Scotland in 2008 but come on, Pittodrie (for example) is not a patch on any of the stadia in Portugal right now. The crowds are not huge over there just now for the smaller games, but no way could we have put up such fantastic looking stadia, nor should we need to in the long run of our domestic game. Although I would really have loved it here, I feel we were lucky to get away with it in the current financial climate in the game.
Guest Saint Geezer
Not a chance we could've managed it. It would've been a disaster. Spot on we would be the laughing stock of Europe again.

That's because all of the stadia used in Euro 2004 are brand new or have been partly rebuilt and they've had years to do it. Scotland would've had 6 years to get the stadia ready. Pittodrie would have to have it's capacity increased anyway for it to be used in the European Championships. UEFA want stadia of around 30,000 capacity or over.
