Buttocks Brown
With more trouble last night, I started wondering why, in particular, it is England fans that are involved in fighting. I mean, everybody condemns their behaviour but no-one ever seems to address the question of what causes Jonny Englander to pick up a garden chair and launch it at a shop window. Usually it's blamed on alcohol but it's got to be more than that. We've got a pretty bad drinking culture in Britain but plenty of other fans out there e.g. Germans, Czechs are known as drinkers and are probably getting just as drunk in Portugal. Maybe not in such large numbers I suppose. Could another one of the reasons be that in England there is a media frenzy and expectation levels are so high that when results go against them they just cannae take it? Another important part could be the parochial attitude of some of the English fans towards other countries, particularly Europeans (UKIP voters? ). Rule Brittania and all that. A throwback to the old empire where they feel that they can go to other countries and do whatever the feck they want, showing little respect for anyone else. Guest Guinness_Alan
A large section of their support (not all of them) are basically xenophobic and racist, and they have the attitude that their beloved engerlund is automatically better then everyone else. They carry a particular hatred for the French and germans, although they have no love for any Europeans. Their basic attitude is "we're better than you and we'll beat fcuk out of you to prove it!" And they wonder why nobody likes them!
Savage Henry
It is noticeable that the heartland of the Daily Mail, The Sun, the BNP, the UKIP and the Conservative party are all England. But let's face it, a lot of guys in their twenties in Scotland are not exactly nice guys, but in England some of them seem to want to get violent when drunk. I blame: combination of hot sun and beer jingoistic English tabloid newspapers telling these morons what to think FHM/Loaded/laddish culture Having God Save The Queen as an anthem Constant referral to "the war" I also agree with Guinness Alan - the notion of English nationalism is based on a superiority of England over everyone else. Pride in one's nation is not a feeling I can empathise with, but I realise it can be done without belittling everyone else. I wonder to what extent these guys are actually England fans. I think they're just a bunch of louts from all over Europe who use the England shirt as a uniform. Going to English premier league game with a Ross County scarf usually gets me lots of drinks bought, not thrown in my face (especially in Newcastle). nsr
Too many of them think the British Empire is still going around taming ignorant savages, and rules half the world. That's all to do with upbringing.
Buzz Killington
i see in the news a british man has been jailed. and ten more british men have been remanded to appear in court. Quite obviously it's those holidaymakers who have nothing to do with the english football fans that riot in portugal 52 weeks of the year
David W
They were discussing this on Talksport last night. Firstly, they are NOT football fans, they are thugs. If you go out in any city in Britain, there are fights every Saturday night. These people are just yobs with a plane fare. The football fans were at the game, where there was no trouble. There are no such things as football hooligans. That puts a dirty name on the beautiful game. These people ARE NOT football fans, they use football as a sort of focal point for their actions. Thirdly, people trying to cause bother will go for England fans, as they know their reputation. Let's face it, if a gang attacked a group of Scottish fans, they would end up fighting back. It's called human nature.
