What is your opinions on taking the junior cup final back to Ibrox park like it used to be. I think they should because it would benifit every especially the clubs and there supporters. Because who wants to say they played in the junior cup at Firhill.

LOL - No Offence to any Jags supporters.

What are your opinions

Some kind of atmosphere has to be created and you can't do that in huge stadiums. Not with the support at these games. Yeah, sure make it the best occasion it can be but it would be better in a senior ground that can accomodate the big crowd feel. Not it a massive stadium where it just doesn't happen.8)

Enjoyed Talbot's win at Hampden over Lok but wouldn't like to see the final go back to Hampden. Back then, Hampden was still mainly terracing and so even though all the crowd was in the west enclosure, there was still a bit of an atmosphere, which you just wouldn't get with a gate of 7500 in the all seated Hampden.

For the same reason I'd say no to Ibrox. Unfortunately, gone are the days when you would get a crowd well over 10,000 at a Junior final and so a typical junior crowd would disappear somewhere like Ibrox.

I've a natural bias for Rugby Park, although it all really depends on who makes the final. Depending on who makes the final it makes sense to move the venue around. When Tayport played Lochee it was held at Tannadice (I think) and that seems a sensible idea to me.

I think the last Junior cup final at Hampden was Pollok v Talbot in 1986, and as far as I recall it was moved due to costs, the same reasons the semi-finals are now a two legged affair played home and away, the SJFA just cant afford to have these games at senior parks anymore.

For the final Rugby Park is perfect, great playing surface and surroundings, but I have to agree with murphy1970 that it makes sense to see who is in the final and and try and get the best option for the two teams involved.

Think it should be played at a smaller ground.

I was at the 1994 final between Largs and Glenafton at Ibrox, the crowd of about 8000 looked lost in the 50,000 capacity stadium.

Were that to have been played at Rugby Park it would have looked a lot better and generated an even better atmosphere.

Over the years bud I have seen Talbot win the cup at Hampden, Rugby Park [4x], Firhill and Brockville. I have seen semi-finals at Ayr, Rugby Park, Love St., Firhill and Fir Park.

Somerset Park in 86 semi against Kilbirnie was deffinately the best atmosphere in front of about 12 or 13,000, but winning the cup at Hampden was by far the best feeling, maybe because it was the 1st time I saw us winning it, there is something special about lifting the cup there, and it should be where the final is played, but 7 or 8,000 in hugh stadiums is a no-no.

Unfortunately have never had the experience of seeing my team lift the cup.

Obviously wouldn't care where it was as long as I got to see my team winning but totally agree it would be better to see it played out with a full park and a great atmosphere.

Wast at the 1987 semi between Kilbirnie and Arthurlie(in the Arthurlie end obviously) and seem to remember that had quite a decent crowd at it.

I went too that game to bud, I think Kilbirnie won 4-0 after a replay, the juniors where still getting very healthy crowds in the 80s for semi's and finals dispite the figures given. I agree with you that at the end of the day it doesn't really matter where you win it as long as you win it, when you get to the final you want to see a good playing surface and be seated in good surroundings and imo Rugby Park is the ideal venue for the Junior cup final.

Sounds about right mate although it was the drawn game I was at.

Would agree that Rugby Park is the ideal venue to play it at.

I know some East teams have moaned about this as a venue but can't think of any better.

Anyway if my team was in final I wouldn't care how far I had to travel to get there.

I would like to see the Junior Cup Final be played in a ground that has terracing as I feel that terracing provides a great atmosphere also not a massive ground. Wouldnt like to see the final at Ibrox or Celtic Park, they f**k up Scottish football too much already. I think the only big stadium it should be played in is Hampden.

Seeing some of the 90's and early 2000's finals at Firhill, it looked like the teams were playing in front of a 'home' atmosphere with the quite rickety ground enough to hold the crowds.

Last year the atmosphere at Rugby Park was fantastic and excited, though it felt a bit too much like a senior game (it's the cup final I know but... still.)

Bearing in mind this thread was first posted 7 years ago did it need to be bumped? It's a good question but an old thread, from before The Bankie was even born!

Rugby Park was a great venue for the final ... but would be happy to see it at Firhill or Fir Park mibbe. East End Park another good venue. For a game that's likely to have a crowd of between 5000 and 10000 tops you can't have it disappear at one of the big Glasgow venues ... Would leave it to see who makes it to final also ... take it to a ground that was relatively neutral if poss ...
