You would have thought that after throwing wickets away needlessly last night England might have reined it in a bit this morning, but there was some dreadful batting again.

They can't afford to lose this test as a comeback from 2-0 down would be highly unlikely. They watched Lyon limp off so knew the Aussies options were limited. When you lose a couple of guys swinging at short balls you would hope the others might have a rethink. The Aussies will have been pishing themselves at lunch.

One of the more ridiculous sporting labels that doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Ali Martin in today's Guardian, as well as writing a tremendous piece on yesterday's events, nails it - "a team run on superhero theory now needs capes to be donned by all for the remainder of this second match".

Quick switch over to Lords where England need quick wickets and plenty of them.

If Australia manage to bat most of the first two sessions they should be comfortably 400+ in front, even scoring at a sedate pace
