GAD
It's a shambles that decent resources are wasted on the incompetent sevens side. Were they not thinking about ditching it last year? To be honest I don't know if any decent players have been developed through the 7's team, but it seems a bit pointless when any decent youngster is already getting game time at Glasgow or Edinburgh.
dogmc
It's a shambles that decent resources are wasted on the incompetent sevens side.It was nearly binned last year. I don't have an issue with directing resources to it but there seems to be very little progress. Scott Wight was a good club player but is nowhere near good enough for the pros. Too slow not enough skill no power and poor defensively. He has shown little or no improvement yet he is the squad captain. Coaches need to be more ruthless with guys who aren't cutting it. This is full time pro rugby and to fail to execute basics and hit same physical standards as other sides isnt acceptable. There is a cracking group of players coming through from u20 level who would do better than some of the journeymen we have.

Mccrae has only had gig for a year but the previous 7s coach is now sru head of development. Suspect that he may have a vested interest in not admitting that our 7s squad isn't good enough Edited May 13, 2016 by dogmc
honestly united
To be fair we haven't had many guys come through the 7s team yet the team is currently ranked 8th or 9th in the world the same as the 15s and that is with us, Canada and Kenya all being focused on 7s. It's not great but better than some other countries
dogmc
Watched European challenge cup final tonight.....frankly was astonished that after his atrocious display in Glasgow v ulster john lacey was not banned but awarded a euro final?? Seriously wtf ?? Imagine nick easter & co will be of a similar mind....an absolute wage thief of a ref who wants to decide result before game has kicked off
Mark Connolly
Interesting after last nights comments after we lost to Fiji that there is no praise for the 7s team who absolutely caned Wales earlier!
peasy23
Kicking contest so far in the Champions Cup Final, Saracens lead Racing 12-6 at half time.

peasy23
Saracens win, pretty dour match but was more disappointed in Racing, very one dimensional even before Carter had to go off.

John Lambies Doos
Wales have a worse 7s squad than us we should be beating them. Are Wales not the world champions? Or they were quite recently

dogmc
Are Wales not the world champions? Or they were quite recentlyThey're ranked a good couple of places below us and have been pretty poor for the last two seasons. Dunno if it's because of budget cuts or just that by the time they fill their Pro12 squads there aren't many players left over. Either way they're a poor 7s squad.

Suspect that he may have a vested interest in not admitting that our 7s squad isn't good enough Lee Jones at Glasgow improved massively after coming through the sevens as will Farndale from Edinburgh, do agree with the point about Wight though, personally I preferred Colin Gregor as his kicking, leadership and overall playing technique was miles better
Mark Connolly
Wales have a worse 7s squad than us we should be beating them. And Fiji have a significantly better squad than us, yet people go into meltdown arguing the 7s programme is a shambles when they beat us.
ChrisMFCfan1886
And Fiji have a significantly better squad than us, yet people go into meltdown arguing the 7s programme is a shambles when they beat us.also Fiji are the current series champions so it isn't exactly an embarrassment to lose to them, however if we had lost to Brazil in the Bowl QF this morning it would have been a big concern

dogmc
also Fiji are the current series champions so it isn't exactly an embarrassment to lose to them, however if we had lost to Brazil in the Bowl QF this morning it would have been a big concernLosing isn't embarrassing but the gap between is hasn't decreased at all in recent years. Fiji have great player resources but operate on a shoe string budget. If you aren't on the mark as a Fiji player you will be replaced....same with sa and nz. We need to have a culture of not accepting mediocrity. That's what's happened at Glasgow over recent seasons. Isn't so long ago that Glasgow were the Pro12 whipping boys but they don't accept failure anymore. Given we have only 2 pro sides we should be able to produce a strong competitive 7s squad. The results against England n usa were very good but we need to be consistently at that level....not switching off against likes off Brazil n nearly letting them back into match. Too many guys in 7s squad know they can cruise to next tournament even if they play poorly
Savage Henry
Alex Dunbar is injured again and replace by Matt Scott in the Scotland squad. Is he made of the same kind of chocolate Grant Gilchrist is composed of?
