peasy23
I know it's not as strong a competition, but over the years Edinburgh seem to get the job done more often in Europe than Glasgow.

same_ol_g35
Not one member of the London Irish match squad is Irish. Times have changed It's a great loss that all three exiles teams haven't kept strong links with their respective 'home' unions. I know Scotland has made some contact in recent years, but there hasn't seemed to be much coming from it.

afca32
I saw the Edinburgh team about 5 o'clock and thought for the first time in a while it looked really strong. If they can field a team of similar strength regularly they'll become a decent team. Glasgow might have a tough couple of games coming up. Good to see Darcy Graham getting some meat on debut too.

Allan Jacobsen
Edinburgh win 50-20. Very nice.
David990
The likely hood of it ever happening is slim, but if Glasgow could play in the Challenge cup for a season and come out on top, it would probably give them a massive boost for Champions cup rugby.
HibeeJibee
See this nonsense at Melrose v Ayr yesterday? Ayr turned-up, got stripped, warmed-up, the teams were named, fans were in the ground and even the coin tossed to decide kick-off... then with seconds left they decided they did not feel the pitch was playable and declined to play. Apparently this is perfectly permissible in Scottish domestic rugby: passing the park playable isn't up to the referee. Melrose are unsurprisingly raging saying in their view it was "absolutely playable" and their players were happy to play, inferring Ayr were at it due to injuries.https://www.scotsman.com/sport/rugby-union/ayr/ayr-refuse-to-play-melrose-seconds-before-kick-off-1-4635106

ddfg
Irish professional rugby showing us all up again this weekend. Small margins tho, Leinster high tackle with Exeter player heading for the try line, penalty no other action, even Brian O'Driscoll was saying it should have been a yellow card and penalty try. Either the same game or Ulster try goes to TMO and gets ruled out due to lack of conclusive evidence of grounding but Montpellier get try in roughly same circumstances. That said the Irish teams all seem better drilled, less prone to unforced errors and more "professional",

come on shire
Well I thought we were absolutely awful on Friday night from the 20 minute mark onwards. It was a daft yellow card for Turner which changed the tide of the game as the French were on the ropes up until that point. Then Jonny Gray got binned for a desperate attempt to keep them off the try line when they had the bit between their teeth. To collapse a maul in front of the ref was stupidity. I thought in the 2nd half the ref was awful. He lost control imo and became very inconsistent. However, when our line out success is less than 50% and we concede 14 penalties then we only have ourselves to blame. The most galling thing about Turner's yellow was that it was so utterly needless, they were penned into their own 22 and Glasgow were in complete control of the game. I honestly think if Glasgow could have got another couple of scores at that point then it would have been a stroll in the second half.

The atmosphere was dire as we knew Europe was pretty much a dead rubber after Leinster game. I actually don't think Gray collapsed the maul, I think it might have been Turner who was just back on and the ref just picked on someone else. Interesting that it was a penalty try first time over. We never ever, ever, ever, get that. Wonder if he's have the bollocks to do that to Leicester or Munster! Montpellier had what 5 offences in 22 in a row without a card, Glasgow bring a maul down close to the line and get penalty try and binned straight away!
