SK on radio saying Biereth took a bad one on the knee... wonderful.

Having done so well for so long by keeping it simple, a 50-50 cup tie is a hell of a time for SK to decide to start needlessly fucking around. He's obviously got credit in the bank but this one is a major black mark. Losing in the cup is one thing - nearly inevitable clearly - but doing so having half sabotaged ourselves is a right bugger.

Mixed response in my group chat...Mist agree, I'd have played him today and rested next week. I appreciate chance if glory in the cup tiny but don't see why we're reducing it by fucking around. Assuming he's not injured yada yada.

MOH had occasional games for us when he was unplayable but they came along barely once a month. I suspect us not being sure how to use him as part of the 'balance' hampered him but fair to him and SR, he found a consistency for St Mirrren last season he simply never had with us.

Obika brings something to the table when fit but if you play two strikers and one if them isn't really a proper scorer you need to be confident the goals are coming somewhere else. Our teams that did well with Ojaama, Main and Obika/Mandron not scoring would have had a different reaction without Higdon, Turnbull and KVV going mental. The goals can obviously be spread around but they need to come otherwise the hard-working striker will be getting dropped pdq.

Afaik there's no convention on this in Scotland so you can do whatever you want...hence Aberdeen's two stars. And I can only imagine getting everyone to agree a set standard will be hard!

The way big clubs throw money at potential these days I'd be amazed if he's still a Motherwell player this time next year unless there's some 'loan back' deal agreed.

I'm not wanting to piss on the chips for the sake of it but I wouldn't be calling the attack sorted on the basis of two games. Biereth clearly looked strong but so did David Ferrere for 45 minutes The rest all have their flaws we don't need to repeat but a couple of goals doesn't have me relaxed just yet...keep this up till the end of the month and I'll be less nervous.

I think Souare can be very pleased with his afternoon's work. We had the fear about him v pace and he was totally fine defensively. And he produced the only moment of quality in the first half to create Casey's chance. He could still offer a little more offensively but given his starting point there's no denying he's improving notably.

I'd take that now quite happily!

Each to their own but McFadden never got you up and excited when he was twisting and turning past players or lining one up from distance? Agree Coyne a different type of player but McFadden brought a buzz to absolutely - almost absolutely - everyone as far as I remember. To the present day, the HO comparison for Biereth is very apt. I still think we need more out of whoever is alongside him, even with Wilkinson scoring today, but we can breath a fraction easier for a couple of weeks at least.

Deserved win for us. Still some obvious room for improvement but hard to complain with 4/6 so far. Hibs looked for all the world like they played one massive game on Thursday and have another coming next week.

I wouldn't take a draw in advance but wouldn't be too disappointed if that's what we get. For some reason I have a funny feeling we'll win which is usually a sign we'll get pumped mind.

You'd feel fairly safe in betting the three city clubs will finish above us but less so we'll go 0/9 points against them. We'll grab the odd result as usual and if we avoid really shooting ourselves in the foot (Bevis) it's as likely to be Sunday as any other time.

If that's the plan they'll come unstuck sooner or later...quite possibly sooner. It's at least more feasible than spending to chase the OF 25 years ago but that cash isn't enough to guarantee a top five finish never mind the rest.

£2m, really?! I knew they went mental on the Dutch guy but that seems - given the corresponding wages - a massive outlay. The finances have obviously changed since the 90s arms race among 'the rest' brought chaos but I'm not convinced this is totally healthy either.

No idea on the details of the loan... certainly possible, fair screwed him over if so, though us dropping him totally then much more understandable. Leeds released him so presumably he's free to sign for whomever easily enough.

In no particular order, he's a talented player with fair potential for more, he could probably be developed into a number 10 as backup for Spittal, in the meantime having at least one viable winger for a plan B to 3-5-2 is needed, he'd probably be relatively cheap, he can play on both sides. I certainly wouldn't break the bank for him but given the squad nature of the 90 minutes these days (swapping literally half the outfielders if desired), never mind the varied needs of the season, I remain bemused SK thought him worthy of being ditched so comprehensively given his Oct-Feb form.

I'd still take him back... Goss less so but you do wonder if a Donnelly situation is possible. It also seems remarkable that he'd leave without a concrete offer, at least a plan B, to fall back on. Johnston wandering off to take his chances is one thing, Goss - despite the odd flash pass - is basically a journeyman and on a totally different shelf in the supermarket.

Looking at Hibs next Sunday has 'chance' stamped all over it for us, especially if they're in the middle of a tough European round. I'd be quietly confident with the defence of last season but there's every chance a complete gift from us will hand them their confidence back.

If the thread could make it illegal for idiots to say 'fan ownership isn't working' without proposing a viable alternative, that'd be great, thanks.
