Has anyone bought the top yet? I haven't bought one since I think the 2011-12 season but I recently gave that away and need something to wear around the flat when I have a hangover. I am normally a medium but I am just wondering if it is more tight and should I go a size up?

I bought it last week. Im usually a medium and stuck to a medium. Length wise going a size up pretty much no difference. I'd possibly recommend moving a size up if you like a bit more room. I like my fit, though im also  trying to shed a few pounds on the ole waistline.

Nicest top we have had since 2012/13 hands down. The sponsor is not stuck on and the back is all black just in case you were not aware.

Lavety made his 1st team debut nearly 30 years ago. There have been plenty of other clubs who have brought through home grown strikers in that time e.g. Steven Naismith, David Goodwillie, Johnny Russell, Leigh Griffiths, Mark McNulty, Gary O'Connor, Derek Riordan, Greg Stewart, Ross Stewart etc.

During that same time we've been brilliant at bringing through midfielders and reasonable with defenders but why we haven't brought through a striker is a bit of a mystery.

Theres an added pressure playing in the top league, to get results almost immediately or turn to the transfer market.

Basher and McGarry are the only two in my time, who have made an impact. Ross Stewart could have possibly been given a better opportunity if Stubbs had not came in the door, though seemed to be used quite a bit out wide. Ross County played to his strengths and he gave  decent return in goals.

Our unders squad seem to produce quite a few goals between a regular pick of players. Hopefully one or two will get the chance to impress this season.

Although it would be magic, we don't need 15 a season. Obika was on target to get comfortably into double figures despite a slow start.

We need another who can chip in with 8-12 a season as beyond Obika, we didn't have anyone who looked like they could.

Last season I felt this is where the club relied on guys like Andreu, who had a very decent record, to chip in with a similar figure. Unfortunately it never worked out. We seemed to have quite a few attacking options from midfield who could potentially deputise as a deep supporting forward, though nothing seemed to click that converted to goals.

  4. It's all good and well Harry saying he would like to come back, that doesn't necessarily mean the club has any interest to do so. He knocked back the chance to stay last time round after the club seen him through a long-term injury.

He was a very decent player in the championship and looked the part vs Celtic in the cup as a test against stronger opposition, though I am not sure if he is the right fit now we are further down the line.

I am only too aware of the meltdown. However his poison is spreading. If everyone read the documentation that is available there may be more constructive debate than latching on to the fantasies of someone losing the plot.

He seems like a sad lonely man to me. Looking to raise negative input so that he has plenty of posts to reply to. He never once admits he is wrong and never has a positive thing to say.

Would be happy enough with Hodson coming back. Was outstanding in the play-off games, although his best games probably came at leftback and he'd be playing on the right. Would allow Flynn to go back into midfield and Hodson could also fill in there if required. Shows how much things have changed that Hladky, Flynn and MacPherson were the only starters at the weekend who played with Hodson.

As for the Kibble proposal, it sounds good on the surface but I have a few concerns. Are they benefiting financially in some way from this? I'm sure the club would have been more than happy to let people from the Kibble do jobs around the place and getting experience without spending money on shares.

If McGinn does go and Hodson is coming in till end of season, then I think that is a decent bit of business too.

Kibble is a CIC so they cannot profit for themselves.

It would be good if Calum Waters considered a permanent deal with us come January. Does his current contract with Killie not run out next June?

I guess it depends on what happens with Taylor, if Killie punt him then they might see Waters as an ideal replacement.

It was mentioned somewhere he is out of contract next summer, though he confirmed in interview pre match, that he has a couple of years to run on his contract at Killie. If Taylor leaves and he performs well, they may recall him back early (Jan) though I am sure they will be looking for a more permanent replacement before this window closes if Taylor does move on. They should fetch a decent fee for him.

McAllister on a 3 year deal, with no transfer fee is the best bit of business we've done or will be able to do in this window.

The guy is still 20 FFS!

I'd imagine the sell-on fee would be similar to that of what Celtic put in place for Carey and Gowser a few years ago, as they wavered dev fees.

Still at that, even if it was 50% sell-on, I have very belief that if Kyle stays injury free, he will be a huge huge asset.

My issue is that all three recognised centre forwards on our books have a recent history of injury.

Obika will be the first choice for sure - that much is fair enough but for the sake of a selection option and given the fact that we have no youth candidates to realistically fill in that position (not having Breadner as a centre forward option BTW - he's a winger), I'd quite like a short term loan as an option until Cooke is back and fully fit.

Someone like Zak Rudden until January would fit the bill for me to fill that slot. Young, not getting anywhere near the Rangers team, did well last season a level below in a dreadful Falkirk side and would presumably be an inexpensive short-term option.

The difference is Celtic have only two centre forwards but have an absolute abundance of fast, mobile and tricky guys just behind who can chip in with 8-12 goals a season no bother. Think a scaled up version of what we were during the championship winning season. No real over-reliance on a particular centre forward but loads of guys who could drag defenders all over the park and open teams up.

When I think about it now I'm not overly concerned about the lack of strikers as I feel with the type of attacking mind midfielders we now have on our books, a lot of goals will come from those areas if we play one up top. I think in some cases, Andreu and/or Djorkaeff may be pushed higher up into a front two if we are chasing games late on.

Centre mid apparently. Reported that he played quite well there too apart from a bombscare 5 minute spell.

Glad Cammy Breadner scored. Any time I've seen him have a run out for first team he's looked impressive. Hell hopefully get a chance to rack minutes up this season.

See this is my problem. To help Erhahon develop as a player, he has to play to his strengths, in his natural position. Evident on that note from last night he looked impressive in a central midfield role.

Ideally, if we are still looking at bringing in defensive players before the window closes, we not only look for a left back though a centre half who can deputise there too, allowing Erhahon to move out on loan, even if it's for 6 months on his natural position. Shame is, the last 10 months or so, he has been seen playing left back and may not be on other teams radar as a central midfielder loan option.

Remember Sean is only hear till January so I can see us trying to negotiate a deal to get Popescu back to Paisley.

I agree with you here. The short term loan could possibly be down to the club looking for a more permanent centre half and Sean helps fill the position for now. Either that or Hull were not prepared to extend it further.

I would love to have Popescu back and this possibly still keeps the door open for a return if his club.

I'm taking my opinion that in an attacking sense he was very decent.

Defensively he was an accident waiting to happen and was quite consistently leaving us exposed.

He's done heehaw since leaving us.

I'd let that sleeping dog lie.

With all due respect, he couldn't hold a regular place down at Ross County then failed to play a handful of games for a team sitting near the foot of the English 4th tier.

Loved him during his time with us, though the time was probably right when he left.

Neilson went in a huff because there were other interviews taking place. He felt he should be the only choice.

I think he felt his stock was high at the time too and that he was bigger than the job. Couldn't even win promotion with the biggest budget in the championship last season, so probably dodged a bullet there.

  14. 18 minutes ago, Demented Zebra said:

Why not cut our losses and terminate his contract? Makes you wonder if he is on a good deal so he is happy to sit and let it run out.

I think he is on a good deal. Some believe he is a top earner, though I am not sure if I believe that or not. His contract was most likely more complicated as we were looking into him being a sellable asset. All assumptions.

Surely the recoup of the 75K only occurs if we somehow manage to get anything for the sale/development of the player himself? Yes, it all affects the revenue and bottom line, but any fee received for another player can't be argued as offsetting the unjustifiable cost of another any more than the increased sale of hot dogs or caramel wafers from the snack kiosks, and I suspect we got a bit more from John McGinn's move to Villa than we got from Ross County.

A player off the wage bill (Stewart) plus transfer fee. Same could be said about fee we received for Cammy Smith. Off the wage bill and transfer fee. Overall I suppose when you look at the bigger picture, we did have to offload guys like King, Kpekawa etc early from their contracts, which would have cost us.

Heaton would have been emptied long ago had we not paid £75k* for him, the club must be desperately hoping we can somehow recoup some of that but I just can't see it. And there's more chance of Man Utd signing John McGinn for £50 million than there is of Heaton ever featuring for the first team again.

*Fully expecting folk to say it's not that bad, £75k is only the amount we pay once clauses etc are added in. However, isn't it funny those stories only started to appear when it became apparent Heaton wasn't very good? The club were more than happy to announce it as the highest fee for a quarter of a century when he signed.

From what I believe, we never paid the full £75k and it was all instalments based upon milestones. Wouldn't be surprised if we only paid a third of this so far. To soften the blow, we did recoup some of that money back from the sale of Ross Stewart to Ross County.
