  1. Pretty sure I remember him on Sky sports news as a pundit during Euros in 2021. It was before England v Scotland game and he did refer to England in a manner that he seems to identify with them more. Maybe at that point he had though he was unlikely to play for Scotland again. Can't really see huge need to bring him in. Midfield we have plenty options and younger players that will have more long term future. Likes of Kenny McLean seems to be a good presence in the squad and knows his role as squad player.

  2. Not a good scenario having manager going into last 6 months of his contract. Given his family are based so far away and doesn't suit for them to relocate to near Ayr doesn't help either. If there was real commitment from both sides I would have thought an extension would have been on the table after finishing 2nd last season even despite awful show in play off.  Maybe then there would have been a bit more momentum, players choosing between us and other clubs at least see the manager is contracted beyond this year after a successful league campaign so get on board with that.

It's not really clear what remit is on authority he has at the club. Is there any coaches that have come in that were clearly his choice. Goalkeeping coach change sadly appears to be big downgrade. Signings also not clear how much say he has on this, Given his long standing association with Sheff Wed it is a bit strange he hasn't maybe brought in someone from there. Are the young players from down south players he knows well from coaching his teams against in reserve or youth football.

His remit on signings aside I'm not really sure we have seen significant improvement in players that he has coached. He doesn't have faith to give academy lads a run yet won't loan the ones on the edge of the team out.

It just feels like both he and Mathie are stuck on their positions. Bullen had some success in the league position last year but clearly it has gone downhill. Mathie concentrating on longer term club infrastructure vision stuff when he talks, even mentions we have probably a top 5 budget so there is expectation we should be competing in that sort of area with performances close to that. I can't recall his really mentioning Lee by name recently or really giving him backing in last few months. It was his appointment. I mean 2 years is about average for a manager these days we have some positives in that time so I don't think we need to call it massive mistake in making appointment but its not working out and things are dragging on. Dare say Bullen knows he won't get another extension and given commitment to move away from his family will feel he is due is contract.

A big concern this year is apathy I don't get to many home games these days living in Dundee now but from when I have been and from footage and comments read the atmosphere at Somerset is just very quiet not even angry just apathy. Maybe there is anger put tempered by what the club is doing off the pitch. I think a change is good for everyone now though. Bullen while it wasn't pretty did us 2nd place for first time in 20 odd years so hopefully that is enough to put him in the frame for a gig at club at maybe conference level nearer his family. 2 years in your first gig is respectable these days.  Heck club and him can shake hands and use the family thing as the reason and they need someone they can bring in  for beyond this season. Lets not drag this out, all the best Lee and cheers for your giving your time but we all need to move on.

  3. See this has been confirmed for 32 teams to be played in USA between 15th June and 13th July 2025. Wonder if they will just make this new confederation cup and play it year before in world cup host nation.

    Europe 12 slots

    South America 6 slots

North America 4 Slots plus 1 host slot for an America team

    Asia 4 slots

    Africa 4 slots

    Oceania - 1 slot

I have read $50 million dollars for each team that qualifies. If that is right then Auckland City owners must be laughing.

Despite this Fifa still planning on an intercontinental cup thing likely similar to current world club cup.

  4. In terms of competitiveness a good scenario would be a 14 team league with the best of the North Superleague and Midlands. More travel but not too extreme and keep fixtures a manageable number.

Bigger midlands teams travelled to Lothians before pyramid shakeup so Aberdeen is doable and is big more a middle ground if anyone had highland league ambitions. Though not sure if North Super league clubs would be as keen. I suppose a merged league at tier 6 would mean 1 less Scottish cup spot for unlicensed champions and for licenced clubs like Lochee and Tayport potentially more likely an unlicenced champion to finish above them and they don't get play off opportunity if they want it.

  5. Myself and Davie had the privilege last night of hosting an interview and q and a with Colin Hendry in Arbroath. Great experience having dinner and chatting to Colin for a couple of hours.

We're fairly new in the podcast game and just do it cos we're passionate about our football teams music and beer. So really special to get asked to do something like this.

No Quitongo corner this week busy week for us and life in the way. Should be back next week though.

Ohhh those cheeky whippersnappers said it was taken down.

Good to see it still there, big fan.

Yeah the thread is still up. Davie had set up a pie and bovril. Account for himself as he wasn't on herr and username was something like fbpr podcast. Seems to have been banned without explanation or an email. Think on pod he was meaning to his account was cancelled but said thread.

Assume it is maybe just something to do with self promotion but surely at least he would get a message at the time.

The main thing is the thread is still there so I will post when new eps appear

  7. Episode 7 of Quitongo Corner out Friday.

    listen here

This week we have two shows. The flagship show 'Football Beer and Punk Rock' returns  after the summer break and will come out every fortnight. We also have a backlog of about 70 episodes from the last 2 years of different shows including interviews with former Scottish lower league players. You'll find all that on the same podcast feed .

  8. The recruitment this summer has been horrendous. Dipo was a big loss of course but other than him and Mullen I don't think we lost anyone on note.  We're bringing in a load of guys that have barely had any minutes at professional level yet keep hearing sound bites that there is a lot of great talent in our academy. We apparently have a top 5 budget if that is the case then the recruitment budget has been woefully utilised. Mathie is great at off the pitch stuff and a great speaker but needs to take a step back in this area. Really we need a manager that knows this league well and capable assistant that can help them.

The NIHL National has admitted Solway this season. So we've got tier 2 hockey in Scotland. Solway moved up from NIHL 1 North (tier 3) where they played the likes of Blackburn and Whitley Bay. The Northern League is a kind of add on competition. Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy and Kilmarnock will still play SNL. Blackburn will still play NIHL 1 North. But they'll also play in a side tournament against each other.

I'm not really a fan of these kind of add on competitions. If Solway works and they can get round the politics of the people involved with the current Edinburgh/Murrayfield Racers then I'd rather see a 2nd team added to the NIHL National. Edinburgh should be able to sustain it. But that also raises the prospect of Fife Flyers having a league they could drop down to.  I also think that both Blackburn and Whitley could be viable NIHL National sides. Both have rinks with the capacity.

The NIHL national is quote a commitment by players. Last season they had a regular season of 56 games. So would be playing 2 matches most weekends and the travel involved. SNL as far as I'm aware is pretty much amateur and NIHL is semi pro so would be significant even paying minimum wage to 20 players and staff for their time over the weekend and training. I would expect many who play SNL who have jobs, studies, family commitments would struggle and so would need to find other players to fill the gaps.  Can't really see southern teams in that league being that keen and much more northern teams in the league unless it adopted a conference system so they only need to visit some teams maybe once in the season.
