Kirkcaldy & Dysart 1-2 Whitburn
Lochore 1-2 Leith
Newtongrange 0-1 Dunipace
Preston 1-0 Whitehill

Dunipace will lift title unless St Andrews put 13 past Newtongrange + Lochore!1 -
Burntisland 0-1 Coldstream
Dalkeith 0-1 Armadale
Easthouses 1-4 Edinburgh College
Edinburgh Utd 1-2 Peebles
Kennoway 2-1 Tweedmouth
Ormiston 3-2 Newburgh

Fauldhouse 1-0 Hawick
Harthill 2-1 Bathgate
Lochgelly 3-0 Livingston Utd
Stoneyburn 1-1 Pumpherston
West Calder (seven) 7-0 Edinburgh Community
West Calder know a win over Harthill or Pumpherston will seal title regardless of what Bathgate do.
Harthill are essentially promoted: allowing for GD they just need 1pt v West Calder or lowly Livingston Utd, even if Stoneyburn were to restore winning streak.1 -
Dalbeattie lost 1-0 to Lochar last night in Tweedie Cup Final despite playing 10-men for 50mins - granted 48hrs after facing Creetown, making only 2 changes. EDIT: mind you Lochar played Wednesday too.
They meet Creetown again on Monday in Cree Lodge SF; unsure when Final is.0 -

On this day in 1967 less than a month after beating England 3-2 at Wembley Tommy Gemmell scored a cracking goal. Only problem was it was the first goal for the USSR
Been mentioned before but of course not only had we just become 'unofficial world champions' by beating England and winning Home Championship; but Soviet Union were Euros runners-up and WC semi-finalists. Club game also in rude health as Celtic + Rangers had European finals and Kilmarnock a semi later in month. Many would argue spring 1967 was the highest watermark of Scottish football.
Naturally then the Tartan Army booed Scotland off the park .

Was watching the Beckham documentary the other night and it was mentioned a Liverpool v Man United game was kicking off at 11:15.
Got me thinking that I’ve never heard of any Scottish games starting before midday, all the early kick-offs start 12-12:30 usually. Wouldn’t even know where to begin to look to find out the answer but were morning ko’s common and when was the last one? (in the professional leagues at least)

I knew I'd happen across an example sooner or later.
During a Division One game at Firhill on Christmas Day in 1909 (a Saturday) the Hibs right back James Main was kicked in the gut, and died 4 days after of a ruptured bowel.
Hibs played New Year derby at Tynecastle - then their home game v Morton on holiday Monday began at 11am so they could attend his funeral that afternoon.1 -
This league and its clubs having already attained for themselves a position of remarkable strength, the March cut off is largely irrelevant.
Take this season... the Premier Division's top 11 are all licensed and 3 of the remaining 5 are going down, and to be replaced by 2 or 3 licensed clubs... should Whitburn falter, the only unlicensed clubs will be 2 of Luncarty/Glenrothes/Inverkeithing, all having battled relegation to the very twilight of the season. Indeed it is now 8 years since the EOS League failed to provide a licensed champion - we have seen no Buckies and Beiths in these parts. So short of Whitburn managing to hold on before going through the Premier like a dose of salts it seems unlikely next season's contenders won't already be licensed. Indeed with the like of Camelon, Newtongrange, Preston, Whitehill and Blackburn also looking to bounce back - the Premier may quite soon become near enough a de facto licensed division.
Of course the other competitive benefit is Scottish Cup entry. By my reckoning almost half the league will be involved next season, even as it stands: 25 licensed clubs and Bo'ness Athletic who have become the latest EOSL side to qualify via the Alex Jack Cup and Cup-Winners' Shield.
Inverkeithing and Heriot-Watt will be some way short for ground criteria currently. I'd like to think some others are getting closer... we know Bo'ness Athletic, Leith and Tweedmouth have fully compliant grounds already... but of course there is plenty else in terms of personnel qualifications and policies. Armadale have been making a lot of improvements, and big works are planned at places like Crossgates and Kirkcaldy & Dysart.
I think the weight of new licensees is likely to come from the West going forward - afterall they only have 16 right now.9 -
I see why some foresee a thrashing... Kelty blew Threave away 10-0 on aggregate in 2018 playoff... Tranent humiliated St Cuthbert at home 7-0 in game #1 of 2022 round robin... Dalbeattie got humped 6-0 by Banks o'Dee; 6-1 by Gretna 2008; 6-2 by Craigmark Burntonians cup-wise this season... but it'll be tighter IMO.

St Mirren played Blackpool at Love Street in August 1968 & Scunthorpe in Aug 1966 in friendlies
You travelled to Darlington in August 1965 when home friendlies were still debarred (although in your case this was as usual got around with the Paisley Charity Cup). It looks very much like it may have been the chance to meet English clubs which clubs were looking to seize in lifting the ban... there were about 20 cross-border friendlies in early August 1966, which was just after the World Cup in England had finished.
Of course by 1970 you then had the Drybrough Cup being played in the fortnight before the regular season began, plus the Texaco Cup started which pitted Scottish & English clubs against each other competitively during the course of the season.1 -
Premier League boss wins anonymity in child sex abuse civil case - BBC News
A Premier League boss has been granted a High Court anonymity order in a civil case against him for allegedly sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl.
He is being sued for aggravated damages by a woman who says the offences took place two decades ago, and remains in position despite a police investigation over the alleged rape of a different girl aged 15. The judge said the order was necessary for the "administration of justice".
A civil case against the boss was filed in January, and his lawyers have successfully argued to the court that an order be implemented to prevent his name from being released by the media.
Master Stevens, who sits as a judge in the King's Bench Division of the High Court, said in court documents that she had considered human rights to private and family life, as well as freedom of expression, when making his decision. She concluded last month that the protection of the boss' identity was necessary to "secure the proper administration of justice", adding there was "no sufficient countervailing public interest" in his name being disclosed.
Privacy rules in the UK apply to identifying suspects in the early stages of police investigation, however the media is usually allowed to report cases in court, including civil courts.
In court documents, seen by the sports news publication the Athletic, the civil action details accusations against the Premier League boss of sexual abuse and claims he "committed trespass to the claimant's person (assault and battery) and intentionally inflicted injury". This is said to have caused psychological harm to his alleged victim.
Earlier this year, the BBC asked the court for documents related to this case but the court did not respond to the journalist making the request or provide them with notice of the anonymity application, therefore the BBC were unable to make representations objecting to the order before the judge's decision.

I remember the permission for friendlies in the juniors but never heard of it for the seniors, I just don't get where on earth there would be motivation to stop these in either grade. The game was largely built on friendlies at its origin afterall and they still made up a huge amount of the calendar until league football took off. Did at some point leagues become scared that clubs would lean toward friendlies and that would possibly affect their scheduling?
They were different people in a different era. It was clearly just frowned upon to play friendlies before the 'real stuff' began. These seem to be your only preseason games held in Britain during 1950s & 1960s:
1951 Dunfermline 4-5 Albion Rovers St Mungo Quaich (for Festival of Britain)
1963 Hearts 7-0 Dunfermline Allison Trophy
ban lifted
1966 Dunfermline 0-0 Arsenal
1967 Dunfermline 0-0 Borussia Dortmund
1969 Aston Villa 3-2 Dunfermline + Blackpool 2-1 Dunfermline1 -

Never heard of this ban before HJ, anymore info? it seems bizarre
Scottish clubs were banned from playing preseason friendlies until 1965 and not at home until 1966... in England the ban had lifted in 1961.
I think Hearts 4-2 Maccabi Tel Aviv on Monday 1st August 1966 was Scotland's first regular preseason friendly.
SFA/SFL competitive season ran from 2nd Saturday in August to end of April. You'll find most clubs would play a couple of internal public practice matches in early August like 'Probables v Possibles' or 'Whites v Blacks' (although I think they had to let people in free or donate the gate?).
However you could get around it by playing in a competitive tournament or a charity competition. SFA would almost grant bespoke permission for tours and in special years like Festival of Britain.
e.g. randomly picked 1955 and here's early August:
Tuesday 2nd August 1955
Dundee trial (at Claypots)
Raith Reds 6-2 Blues
Friday 5th August 1955
Aberdeen trial
Dundee trial (at Dens Park)
Montrose trial
Saturday 6th August 1955
(Allison Trophy at Easter Road) Edinburgh Select 1-1 Newcastle United
(Rangers Sports & 5-asides at Ibrox)
Airdrie Diamonds 1-2 Maroons
Arbroath trial
Dunfermline Blues 4-0 Whites
East Fife Whites 2-0 Black & Gold
Falkirk Blues 3-2 Whites
Kilmarnock Blues 2-1 Stripes
Queen of the South Blues 3-2 Whites
Raith Blues 2-2 Reds
St Johnstone trial
St Mirren Black & White 1-0 Reds
Stenhousemuir Maroons 1-1 Stripes
Stirling A Team 4-2 B Team
Monday 6th August 1955
East Stirlingshire trial
Morton trial
Partick trial
Rangers trial
Third Lanark trial
Tuesday 7th August 1955
Queen's Park trial
Phenomenon lingered much longer in the juniors - IIRC it was only around a decade ago they were allowed to play friendlies before the 3rd Saturday in July, when it was moved to 1st Saturday, then almost immediately to start of July.
EDIT: certainly in 2015 the North Region juniors voted to move the cutoff forward 2 weeks to 1st Saturday in July - but East and West regions voted against1 -

In fairness Morton only twice contested the Paisley Charity Cup - in 1930 and 1931.
From the 1920s to 1950s with Abercorn gone St Mirren invited another Scottish club - almost always from Glasgow (but never OF).
Then in 1960s it was used to get around preseason friendly ban and host an English side each August.
Last edition in 1968 shared with Preston.

Burntisland 0-0 Edinburgh South
Thornton 4-1 Easthouses
Ormiston 2-2 Kennoway
Thornton need to beat Bo'ness Athletic on Saturday - they did thrash them away in March - then hope they drop points at Ormiston or Dalkeith.
Edinburgh South did drop points at Burntisland last night and Armadale will hope they do so again.
Ormiston are effectively relegated given their GD (in any case: beating Bo'ness Athletic be a tall order).1 -
Edinburgh Community 1-3 Pumpherston
Linton Hotspur 0-3 Harthill
Livingston Utd 0-1 Fauldhouse

Unless a lot of reserve football was happening it wasn't through overuse either... there wasn't any first team game on Love Street between April 4th and May 6th i.e. 3 days before that photo was taken !
Incidentally players moan about long seasons nowadays but it wasn't too different then - St Mirren started with Paisley Charity Cup on Aug 3rd, and ended with Renfrewshire Cup Final 2nd leg on May 26th, with is basically 10 full months (no winter break in those days!).
They played 54 competitive games... 8 more than this season (or only 7 if you count the 'Communities Cup')... despite only progressing past India Inchinnan, Dundee Utd - after a replay - and Stranraer in the cups.0 -

League structure for 2024-25 season confirmed (theoffsideline.com)
To surprise of nobody: Super 6 collapse sees league-less sides parachute in a tier up from their club XVs; with 3-down-1-up next season to return to 10-club divisions; allowing Premiership pay "to be reviewed".Super 6 itself is going out with a whimper... Glasgow A failed to fulfil their game at Stirling on Friday, claiming they hadn't enough front rows and couldn't get any from other academies or clubs.
