  1. Cheers lads.  There must be a few more clubs  that have folded since this thread started. Bishopmill United and Steelend Vics are two that come to mind.

  2. I am doing that anarak thing of trying to remember and record all the football grounds I have been to. Footballgroundmap.com is a good site to do this albeit a bit slow. I was looking through the list of defunct teams but could not find any reference to Insch Juniors.  Can anyone confirm Insch had a junior team in the North Region? Might have been the nineties. Google has been no help so maybe my mind is playing tricks.

  3. BBC excelled themselves with the Inverurie Locos v Annan Scottish Cup ties.

The first game the BBC report had Locos equalising in the last minute after a goalmouth scramble. In fact the Locos skipper Neil McLean scored an amazing solo goal straight from the kick off. They changed the report a few days later after the goal had become a big internet hit.

In the replay the report had "Andrew Forsyth smashed the crossbar late on for the hosts." Only two things wrong here as Gordon Forsyth hit the bar for the visitors.

  4. That Bamford guy was on loan at Derby and doing well. I'd imagine he'd be ahead of Feruz if they were to sell their current strikers.

Bamford is two years older. Feruz needs to go on loan next season and play first team football somewhere.

  5. Anyone have any info on Peter Thomson, who was a football radio commentator on the BBC until around 1971. His grandson wants to put something together for his dad's 60th and would like anything at all on his career, old recordings etc. I've appended part of Alan's email below...

I've got some more specific dates and facts about Peter Thomson.

Peter Thomson commentated on the Celtic v Rangers game on Jan 1st, 1967

He commentated on Scotland world cup games of 1958

His program was probably on 6.25pm on the 'Home Service' on Saturdays.

He seemed to start at the BBC in 1944 and finished his career in 1971. There is a chance he was briefly on Sportscene which was the TV version of the programme..

    Thanks.

I believe he was a Rangers fan. Maybe young Alan can confirm. There was a story about missing film footage from Celtic beating Rangers 7-1 in the league cup final when Peter was the commentator.

I think he was the BBC main football commentator in Scotland. Sportsreel in the sixties?

All the best with this. I think it will be really interesting with the old footage.

  6. Can you name a decent newspaper. I only ask as I'm now seeking a new one after my previous reads have disgraced themself over recent weeks. In all honesty, what's a good fair and informed read ?

Not really. P&J is shocking these days. Herald and particularly Scotsman are just ridiculous with stupid scaremongering stories.

Better reads on the internet. Recommend NewsnetScotland.com although it is not much use for Sport.

  7. My eyes are completely dry, my throat's enjoying some lovely Cardhu. Our chairman embarrassed our club and its fans, but was never shy of speaking to the media throughout this saga.

Your chairman said on the 12th february, "we don't need rangers".

He then shut the f**k up.

He then let the diddy clubs put their reputations and their public images on the line for six whole months, for fear of alienating his fanbase.

He is now shiting himself as without rangers, there is no point in supporting celtic.

He is now shiting himself because his club's business partner has disappeared.

He is now shiting himself because nothing less than the treble every year will suffice for the greatest fans in the world. And that ain't gonna happen.

He is now shiting himself because many of those GFITW only bought STs for the bigotfest.

He is now shiting himself because, with Project Orange accomplished, we're coming for you.

And guess what? Just cause we hate rangers doesn't mean we love, like, or even accept celtic.

You are ALL shiting yourselves because, by your definition, your only competition was rangers. Well, they're dead, but we're not.

Welcome to the 21st century, celtic.

And if you don't drop the sectarianism, the tricolour, and the "traditional" songs, you can f**k off to wherever will have you. Because guess what else has died?

    That's right - whataboutery.

You forgot the iniquitous SPL voting system. Deid.

  8. The only thing you came away from listening to Neil Doncaster on Sportsound tonight was baffled wondering how on earth is this incompetant arse is still in a job. At times it was head in hands listening to his "it wasnt me, it was the process, i didnt do anything wrong and neither did my buddy Stu, its all lies i tell you lies, we didnt say anything, leave us alone, stop it you're being nasty".

The quicker they are both punted the quicker Scottish football can get to sorting out the problems, until then no chance as they are hated by the SFL chairmen who have as much faith in them as we do.

Funny. I thought he did okay. I don't doubt Doncaster and Regan think they were trying to do their best.

They did not reckon on the diddy spring.

I think it is safe to buy the season tickets.

Did Sandy Jardine, formerly respected but not now, ever pay the newsagent his 500 quid? If not why not?

  9. I have utterly detested Sandy Jardine ever since the Bobby Thomson incident over 30 years ago. Not only is he a cheating b*****d, his club are cheating b******ds and he wants them to keep their precious titles even though they bought them with money they did not have leaving taxpayers to pick up the tab.

BTW hand back your Scottish caps, see if anyone cares ya fud.

Was that when he made on he was headbutted and got Thomson sent off?

  10. Of course Ritchie says that. First Division clubs would have to be insane to agree to the proposals in their current format.

What he isn't saying is what he should have said. That under no circumstances could Falkirk FC vote for Sevco 5088 to be installed at any level in the SFL other than the bottom division.

What he's saying is that he's quite happy for them to be fired in at the top, as long as the rest of the division gets 60 pieces of silver rather than 30.

    It's a total shambles of a statement.

I have been on holiday. Did Smithy resign at Falkirk's stance? He had been adamant that everyone needs Rangers and punted this in all the papers.

  11. Murray did play well today on serve and dictated a lot of points. However, Djokovic was below par and gave Murray cheap points. However, I am not taking anything away from Murray he played good but if he loses the Final then it's the same old story.

Same old story. He just beat the world number one in straight sets. Scotland's greatest sportsman by a mile. I would hate to see you "take anything away from Murray"
