  1. You have to admire Season Tickets Holders £210 up front and maybe no live football or a curtailed season possibly. I for one won't pay £18 PPV and don't think the product on view the last 2 or 3 seasons is worth it for live or PPV, I will probably do my supporting  by purchasing Club Merchandise and maybe an odd live game if that happens at all.

I personally don’t have an issue with it because we are in such truly exceptional times.

As much as I will look forward to the live streams in my Dubai living room I totally agree with you. There is no way any Championship club will make anywhere near the match day revenue from streaming. I hope clubs have budgeted accordingly.
  2. After hearing Ms sturgeon's reply to the so called Leaked document i would be shocked if there was any Football started in October of this year Any thoughts??

I would be amazed if football doesn’t start in October! But there is a risk, (if infections keep increasing,) of consistent call offs which could make a bit of a mockery of the season.

Unfortunately I would also be amazed if we see fans in stadiums this year. Perfectly possible there are none or very limited fans in the stadiums all season.
  3. This is an unprecedented situation: the last 20 years are irrelevant as none have taken place during a pandemic other than the end of last season. Nobody has a clue what will happen. We've just spent three years in a league with shit away supports and very little excitement. I think our board have kept that in mind with a view of consolidating our place back in the league.

    Is this a windup?

The “let’s have a bit of a gamble and push on” strategy destroyed countless clubs over the last twenty years. Comparatively the good times.

Now we have a pandemic, a completely unprecedentedly bad situation for football, the potential for no fans through the turnstile all season.

Two week UK national lockdown rumoured to be in the pipeline today.

    Good Luck!
  4. While I'd not be as bold to suggest we'll not be down on our income, we're in a far better league if there's no fans allowed into games. I'd imagine we'll look to open up our streaming to away fans (as you'd expect most teams) and even though we'll lose money on match day revenues, I'd far rather that we're in the Championship with Hearts, Dunfermline and Dundee. Had we been in league one, we'd have been fucked. Instead, you'd expect quite a lot of the fans of fans will pick up one uses passes for away games. It's obvious to say, but this is far more preferential to two bit supports from your Montroses and Peterheads of this world. I think most clubs will benefit in terms of away fans being more likely to purchase streams for trips they might not make (I'd not be inclined to go to a game against Queens away due to travel but I'd be happy to stream it).
As for our issues in the Summer, there's been no verdict from the arbitration on legal costs as of yet but indications are positives. We initially started the crowdfunder in April based off the willingness of fans to chip in. Obviously, the court cases came into play but if we're covered for those then I'd hazard a guess it would mean we can use resources which had been set aside for any potential loss and use them for our squad. We've offered two year deals to two players and the rest of our signings have been players coming up from England on one year contracts. I'm not suggesting we're flush with cash by any means, but I'd hope we're OK to get through this period.  Given how quickly the situation changes with case numbers then it's impossible to say where we'll be - even if we do end up in difficulty I don't think it's too disingenuous to look back at when we made the signings and think "well it was a different picture with how the cases were at that point".
Each board will have their own strategy. Some might take a bit more of gamble to see if they can push on. Those that are more conservative might benefit if there's a shut down but also might face relegation if things start improving and they've gone with a weakened squad.  Either way, hopefully turns out ok for the clubs. It's an absolutely brutal situation for people to be in.

“A bit more of a gamble”

Sounds like a great strategy! Looking at football over the last twenty years, what could go wrong?!
  5. Ayr aren't bankrolled in the Brooks Mileson sense of the term but the difference here is between having directors who are able and willing...

Ha ha so what exactly is “being bankrolled in the Brooks Mileson sense of the term?”

Spending copious amounts of money that doesn’t exist on the squad, keeping the non league infrastructure unimproved and then going into receivership when the debt is recalled?
  6. The current board’s entire regime has been built on being financially astute so it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone it is the case this coming season when this is required more than ever.
It’s possible to be aware of all that but still be frustrated by it and have the odd grumble though. Especially on the likes of here.

Yeah I think the odd grumble is fair enough. I wouldn’t say I’m impressed with the signings so far either. I think my point really is that I’m more worried about having a club to support than I am about this season’s squad signings so far.

And as others have suggested, you really do wonder where the money will come from to subsidise the wage bills of other clubs in this division if the crowds this year are towards our worst fears.

One caveat I will add. Maybe contracts have clauses that can massively reduce the pay if there’s another lockdown, postponement or no crowds are allowed all season. I have no idea if that’s possible or not.
  7. Quite a lot of negative posts along the lines of "where is all the Dykes money" and "Ayr have signed ____"

I don't live in the UK but from what I can see in the news I would be more concerned about the club's ability to survive if we have to play most of the season behind closed doors with no paying fans in attendance. If there was ever a time to be cautious financially; this is it. I wonder if some of the clubs who have signed 'impressively' up till now have budgeted for such a situation.

Obviously we don't want a situation where the board use the pandemic as an excuse to hoard cash, and if they appeared to be it would do more harm than good anyway. But caution is required. I will be amazed if we see fans in Palmerston at the start of the season, if infections are completely out of control again the season itself may be under threat of postponement or cancellation. And if that happens will all the clubs in Scotland even survive?!

  8. Yeah I do agree that the Gibson signing was hyped up a bit too much on social media and probably contributed to the negativity surrounding it!

I still think he will be backup unless he somehow pulls something out of the bag - and if he does nobody will be complaining. He was a great player a few years back.

Maybe I'm a little too nostalgic but if Carmichael is fit I would be delighted to see him back also.

As we all know, we are not able to compete in the top half financially so the only way we will is if we uncover some rough diamonds. Be that youth or players we thought were 'past it.'

This season it should all be about the 1st team squad maybe if things get back to something like normal next season then have a reserve team but not this season .Why bother when no league to play in .

Ayr have the right idea put everything they have into the 1st team squad building a very good squad really thought we would like Ayr gradually add to the squad but no looking like now we are hoping for decent loan signings

I just could not agree less with this. One of the very few natural advantages we have over some of the other teams is our geography. We should be trying to capture the local talent as much as possible.

Its also one of the few things that gives Queens their local identity. If the entire club only focuses on the first team we are at risk of being nothing more than a bunch of journeymen.

There has been enough success with young players over the years to warrant continuation of these schemes.

The wording of the announcement definitely suggests we're due additional money on top of the initial fee

" the deal has the potential of being a new club record for us"

You would think theres a good chance an international call up would be one of the things that would mean an extra payment, but its not certain

You would! But looking at Scotland these days if I was the other club I think I would also put a condition in there that Scotland have to be ranked above a certain place for the payment to be made!

  11. I think we have to face the fact that a good championship level player is unlikely to sign for us, especially at this stage of pre-season. Therefore aside from downright luck the only way we can get an edge over our fellow clubs is by finding young gems that we can bring on, getting the best out of Dobbie and finding a player with a flaw and working on that flaw. Lets hope that these players have something to prove and some magic can be worked on them to help them improve. Buchanan may feel like this is one of his last hopes of making an impact at this level.

AJ was successful with us last time by bringing youth through the ranks. Therefore I have high hopes for Goss and it would be great if we could find one or two other young prospects.

With such a huge club like Falkirk outside this division the Morton fans will be hoping that all the big name players flock to Cappielow.

  12. I am a bit surprised that Dykes has done so well but I'm very happy for him and Queens. He must have tremendous determination and workrate to have improved himself so much in a short time. He was raw with us but I always thought he had some potential. There does seem to be a general dislike for him which I don't really understand although I'm sure I can hazard a guess...

Any more signing news OR fairly reliable rumours? I thought AJ was already back to work?!

  13. Pumping Gretna 3-0 at Raydale at watching their “fans” slope off early in our last game is definitely one of my highlights  watching Queens.

I was going to raise this.

We had some crushing derby defeats to Gretna, some of the most horrible games I’ve ever seen as a Queens fan in front of huge crowds. The fact that we were at least able to do the same to them once on that last ever meeting meant a lot. I was there and I still remember it.

You can still watch the goals on YouTube and you Can hear how much it means to the fans!
