Ditto with Stirling Uni v Edusport.

Although a defeat it was heartening to see Newtongrange only go down by 3 goals at Whitehill: the Star youngsters had been badly mauled in their early QL ties before winning by the odd goal in 9 v Mid Annandale last week, perhaps starting to find their feet.

Incidentally having been down to just 4 clubs at the end of last season - Bonnyrigg, Leith, Murieston and someone I can't recall (was it perhaps Newtongrange or Musselburgh?) - I was in the SYFA's South-east site earlier and with all blank it seems their U21s has ceased operating.

Yes Newtongrange Star are starting to find their feet but slowly. A late, blank canvas only a few weeks ago with a bunch of strangers, it was always going to be tough at the start of this season. They are a very young side but are working hard to improve for this big step up.  We have wonderful facilities at New Victoria Park and a great connection with the flying 1st team, with boys getting the chance of a call up. The whole of the Newtongrange Star academy is getting a major change next season which will only help the club. Newtongrange Star F.C are in great shape as a whole club, great place to be at present.

If you think that's bad , should see what he thinks about folk from Newtongrange.

Aye, could imagine. He's probably got a cousin in Turin calling Ronaldo a "fucking overpaid  Portuguese twat"

Maybe the LL could eventually follow suit and turn it into a reserve league where say a minimum of 8/10 players in the match day squad have to be U20 qualified, with a minimum number in the starting XI, allows more flexibility in fielding fringe first team players and helps develop the best of your youngsters, plus it removes the reliance on having to have a 16-18 player U20 squad to fulfil fixtures.

So clubs can have U17 - U19 - Reserves - First Team type pathway.

Sounds a good idea to me.

Everybody needs to remember, it's not just an under 20's league but a reserve league as well. 2 older players playing every week can only help these young lads develop.

Limited to 5 games per overage player is it not?

Think it now 6 games per overage player this season. So in theory you could plan to play 2 overagers every week. On the theme of a reserve league,Scottish football shouldn't have scrapped it all those years ago, it was working back then.

  5. Gala Fairydean Rovers can confirm that we will be delaying the implementation of an Under 20’s team until the beginning of next season.

We are grateful to all those who assisted us in trying to establish an Under 20’s side this season, especially Kenny Donaldson, Grant Davidson and Mark Gammie.

We also wish to thank all of the players who worked hard and were committed to joining the team this season.

The club will continue to use our Border Amateur side as a Development Squad in the meantime.
