I find it very hard not to recommend *all* their albums. I have, however, been listening to "Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will" a lot recently.
These days if I listen to Mogwai, it's Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will. I'm not their biggest fan but I love this album.

Happy New Year fellow elecktroids!
Thinking of doing a hip-hop version of this - do we think we'd get enough voters?
Happy New Year Colin.
I'm up for a Hip Hop version. Nothing older than 1990's from me though.

I think one of the best things for me about doing this was revisiting a number of albums from the 90s - it was a pleasure to go back to things I hadn't listened to for ages with fresh ears. Underworld, Leftism, Moon Safari, the Daft Punk albums, Jilted Generation, Herbert, all things I hadn't heard for a long time. Things like BOC and Aphex I know inside out but even thinking about what I'd say about them was great fun. The stuff I wasn't familiar with at all (Pryda, Big Bud, Lo-Fidelity Allstars, most of Chicane) were all quite different and I can honestly say I enjoyed discovering them. I pretty much expected to hate Pryda (sorry Marshmallo!) but it was different from what I expected, proving my own prejudices to me.
I suppose a 30 is still fairly limiting - It feels sort of wrong to cover AI era Warp stuff like Aphex/Polygon Window and not also mention things like Black Dog, B12 and Autechre. I thought there might be at least one Plastikman album in there. The 2000s were perhaps surprisingly poorly represented - I'd have loved to have written up something on Burial or LCD Soundsystem, or guys like Theo Parrish or Ricardo Villalobos. Looking further back, I thought we might have more than one Kraftwerk album, and JustOneCornetto's list had some great entries from the likes of Tangerine Dream and Gary Numan. Just goes to show how spoiled for choice we were!
This thread has reignited my love of electronic music and I've been discovering new(ish) music as well as rediscovering some old favourites. DNBWMHM was no2 on my list and was a worthy winner.

Good show Colin. Best thread I've read in a long time and a worthy winner.
I'm already looking forward to the next one!!!

Come on Colin; you can't keep us hanging on. This like one of those unnaturally long pauses before the winner of a reality TV show is announced. You've gone all Davina McColl on us.

This thread makes you dig out those forgotten albums that you haven't listened to in a long time. SAW is one of those. I may have to rip the CD or even buy it again mind you.

Again, my narrower definition of electronic music has meant another album that wasn't in my list is possibly lower than it should be. I only put in music with electronically produced sounds and not sample based music.

Fantastic album, missed out on my list as I took a more dancey approach, had this and moon safari in the top ten then changed them for some reason. Glad to see it get in though. I reckon drexcyia which I replaced for one of the two above has no chance now.
For some reason, I didn't consider Massive Attack. They are one of my favourite bands but I didn't class them as electronic and I've no idea why. Moon safari was top of my list though.
Oh aye, I would also like to congratulate Colin on his excellent thread idea and quality reviews.

Apparat's Walls nearly made my top 10 - sublime album. Never really been too keen on Modeselektor, can be a ticky noisy for me.
I'm not usually into the noisier end of any music these days but Monkeytown seems to have grabbed my attention.
Apparently they are about to start recording a new Moderat album.

I would probably change my choices now. I can't stop listening to Moderat, Modeselektor and Apparat.

Diamond Gord - I wasn't describing all UK hip hop as poppier, that was a reference to the example of UK hip hop I linked...who confusingly enough for this sentance is called Example.
I can't profess to know too much about the UK scene these days, so I wouldn't know if it was or wasn't poppier. I was just commenting that if poppier Hip hop was the trend then it was a bit of a departure from the past.
I will have a listen to Example's and your stuff though.

Cheers Colin, thats my band. You're right, i wouldn't compare it to any Scottish hiphop stuff because thats not how we're trying to be. We're more of a band but aye I think the more hip hop stuff can be done with the Scottish accent if its done correctly. Some rappers can pull it off and some just can't. Then you get the Scottish rappers who rap in American accents, the scene really don't like that. Only folk i've played with or came across so far have been Damaged Goodz or Respek BA
Someone thats a bit more clued up than me might know more but Hydro is a guy that seems to be doing quite well just now. Is he actually from Scotland or the US? Had a song with Busta Rhymes.
UK hip hop in general is excellent I think. Its maybe a bit poppier than some but Example is brilliant in my opinion.
My band is called The LaFontaines for anyone that fancies a swatch by the way.
Changed days from the "golden era" of UK hip hop then when the likes of Gunshot, Hijack. Demon Boyz, Hardnoise and London Posse were anything but pop music.

Great stuff GeeJay, I'll be checking those links out
By the way, Big Div is a Saints fan, think MarreZ went to school with him!
Used to kick about with Div a few years ago.
Here's my efforts from around that time(12 years ago)

I really like some Scottish Hip Hop. There are some good rappers out there although it does take a while before you stop noticing the accent.

Watched David Lynch's Inland Empire the other night. It looked and sounded good as all Lynch stuff does, the plot, however, was even less coherent than his other films. It was still enjoyable and still has me thinking about it.

Killa Insticnt - Thieves Rush in..
Can't get enough of the old Britcore Hip Hop sound; far better than any American stuff.

Nick drake - Pink Moon
A singer songwriter that people like Jack Johnson try to emulute but never come close.

Neil Diamond - 12 Songs, surprisingly good.
