  1. It's incredible that anyone could think differently, it's possible given Rae has decided to splurge this month that Morton are now pushing us close, and had it just been a case of being 2nd to them then I suppose it could just about be accepted. But we are struggling to even make the play-offs. I'm not even sure what needs to happen to stop us being shite.

To "stop us being shite" we need to start attacking from the start and keep it going for 90 mins. This playing slow and playing "safe" passes sideways or back is just inviting the opposition to have a go. If a full time team cannot wear down part timers by playing high tempo then they're not working hard enough during the week. Can they not work on passing the ball in front of a player who is MOVING? I'd play Moff and Faz up front with Barrowman linking from Midfield (but with a free reign). We should start using width more and I don't care if they take on a defender and lose out, just keep at it. If we go all out and it doesn't work we're no worse than the slow decline of the run we're in at the moment. Sure we might lose more goals but currently we have the best defensive record in the division - our problem is scoring and if you're not near the oppositions goal often enough you're never going to score! I don't care if we lose goals if we're scoring plenty.

And fed up with the low on confidence bullshit. Players are in control of their own confidence and if they are allowing fear of failure to affect their performance then they're in the wrong job. I don't accept that excuse. It has to be tactics that is the issue here. There have been spells in games where they have turned the screw, (e.g. at the end against Airdrie and a couple of spells first half in Morton game - there is no doubt the players have the ability).

Keep the opposition busy and they'll have less time to create their own chances.

And for the record I don't think winning this league from current position is unachievable. If the players think it's not achievable then we may as well get the part time contracts sorted out now.

  2. I think this is what sticks in the craw:

A further trading loss will be incurred next year in this division.....

A trading loss is different to going into debt.

    Here's an analogy...

You start the year with £5000 in your savings account and £1000 in your current account.

You earn £15k from your job for the year, stress testing blow up sheep which your company sells high volumes through its chain of sex shops in Wales and it's flagship store in Aberdeen.

After you pay for your rent, groceries, tax, pension, council tax, child maintenance, fuel for your moped etc. One year on you still have no debt (you are unable to get credit since you got blacklisted after your ex-wife ran up a massive catalogue bill and you couldn't keep up the repayments, and your wife then left you for the bloke she met on Jeremy Kyle - when you were on the show "my man supports Raith Rovers and can't satisfy me in bed"). You now have only £500 in savings and £3.76 in your current account.

Now you still have no debt, but you have operated your finances at a loss for a year. If you continued at the same level of earnings and outgoings you would end up in debt (if anyone would lend you money) so you have to either get a better job (get promoted to a higher league) or spend less (go part time).

Hopefully you now understand the plan?

  3. After having a wee strop about how bad the pars team was against Cowden decided that I will renew my season ticket.

One thing concerns me though, the club are asking fans to use cash rather than using credit cards due to handling costs or charges.

If we are spending more money that is coming in I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of having no comeback if things were to go tits up in the next while. I know this is unlikely but IMO treating season ticket holders like they're an inconvienence and blackmailing them somewhat seems wrong.

They've got everything right so far and it's not really that big a deal but a small doubt crept into my mind after reading this.

The club should be glad of any money coming in, especially season tickets.

Nah, don't think it's anything other than trying to eek every penny out of the revenue as club will be paying a handling charge of 2.5% if everyone pays cash instead of card then that's about £5000 of a difference in revenue for the coming season.

N.B. Which back in the days of less thriftiness would have paid Stevie Crawford for one week!

Now do I pay cash or get Tesco points on CC, think on this occasion I'll pay cash...

  4. Ayr's chairman actually speaks like anyone would in his situation albeit a little misguided with regards his sour grapes at losing Moffat. The guy must be hurting, but he seems to be a bit hypocritical; he has a go at a club having gone into debt and ending up in administration (where the owner was putting in money creating club debt, due to him - and his creditors for that matter). Now he is doing the same and should he suffer some event which cripples his finances, like happened to GM, then he'll have a similar scenario on his hands. Remember GM spoke of "friendly" creditors and soft debt? He speaks of debt which he has no intention of calling in. The truth is that he cannot predict what life may throw at him and when he may "need" that money...

  5. To be honest I feel it's a bit of a blessing in disguise as we'd be getting horsed most weeks, the confidence of the players would be shot and the home crowds would dwindle. Staying in this league for the time being will be better for the development of our players imo.

Sorry Gordon, not with you there. I would've gone with taking our chances - effectively we would have had 10 local derby games + the new recent addition to the league x2(which seem to carry a decent support inherited from the demise of Rangers FC) at EEP and a healthy revenue. With the right decisions and a bit of work we could have had the aim of finishing 8th as an achievable objective and consolidated our position. But alas we lost to Cowdenbeath, and we are where we are. My only hope is that the premier sides don't raise the spectre of a 14 team top league again and bring with it the meaningless fixtures that would come with it after 2/3 of the season had gone. I can see this happening though to get the 3 best supported clubs apart from Celtic (and poss Aberdeen) on the fast track back to the top flight. Protectionism still rules in our game (our previous board being involved in it when we were part of the ess-pee-ell), as proved by the cascading playoffs for the top flight which differ from the other play offs, but it didn't help Hibs. If the structure remains the same at least one of these three will remain if we can get there next season...
  6. I have just read Jefferies interview on the pars website. Grim reading.

But a little insight into the wage bill suggests that the average wage of £500/week gives a monthly salary of a bit over 2 grand. Multiply this by 22 (size of squad) and I make that £50k per calendar month. Where is the other £150k of monthly liabilities? Management, stewarding, catering and back office plus utilities and misc overheads surely can't be three times the first team budget? Am I missing something here?
