Of course Labour weren't going to sprint it home, they'll have a few hiccups but imo they'll comfortably win the next General election.

Polling for all aspects of British politics is pretty erratic right now.

If Labour sweep up in the local elections that will put massive pressure on the Tories.

    Don't count on it...

    Quote

Tory incumbents since 1945 have regained an average of 10 points on election day, twice the typical Labour rebound. Three Conservative governments since 1945 have faced poll deficits of more than 20 points and yet gone on to win – Sunak will hope to add his name to those of Harold Macmillan (1959), Margaret Thatcher (1983) and John Major (1992) on the great comebacks honours board.

Was a little tongue-in-cheek quip.  The main point of that post was to show the Nat reaction to taking the GRR case to court.  Here we have Humza defending his action, "Regardless of what you think of the GRR Bill".

It's sad that - after a hate-fuelled, rabble-rousing narcissist was ousted as FM - we now have the new FM following the same tactics.

That's what you get when you vote for "the continuity candidate"

So any preference between these shits is negligible. It comes down to whether you think a Tory win will further damage that party (ideally permanently) or whether you think an amoral nothing like Starmer is worth having (or not) because the right-wing lurch he’ll encourage in UK politics won’t last. (My feeling is that it will last; if Starmer can claim a victory by chasing far-right votes, it’ll shape Labour tactics for the future - and the problem is that by pandering to the right, you only enable the extremists to make greater demands.)

    Totally agree.

It's degenerated into two cheeks of the WM arsehole.

He’s the dreaded centrist in a lot of ways. Has certainly voted Johnson before but whether it was over Livingstone for mayor or Corbyn for PM I can’t remember

He did vote for Johnson for the London mayor gig, but is always the first to admit that was a terrible mistake, and he's being doing his level best to crucify him (and the Tories in general) ever since.

It’s no surprise ICTJohnboy thinks this given he is one of the biggest James O’brien fanboys on here. People like this have never suffered the worst effects of years of austerity and decades of neoliberalism.

    Is O'Brien a Tory fanboy?

I'll always find it baffling how some apparantly progressive thinkers get so upset over the idea of Labour winning a general election over the literal Conservative party.

I appreciate this place seems to be very pro SNP and pro Indy but even if that is your ultimate goal surely you would much prefer Starmer to Sunak at this point even if you do think that he's isn't as progressive as you'd like him to be.

You mean Starmer, the man who campaigned so vociferously against Brexit and is now the country's biggest defender and supporter of that unmitigated disaster.

    And we all know why....

It’s a known fact that Salmond gave Sturgeon this advice and that she then pretty much closed the door on him. As soon as she became first minister she then completely froze him out. The clique she built around herself and Murrell then hated Salmond and saw him as a threat.

The trouble started with him telling her Murrell should go and when Salmond started planning a comeback crack at Mark McDonald’s seat after she threw him under a combine harvester they began their plot against him.

    This is common knowledge.

it is astonishing watching people still refusing to face the truth regarding Nicola Sturgeon.

    Common knowledge?

So presumably you can back this up with press reports/accounts?

Lucy Powell making herself look stupid on Breakfast time. Time presenters stated either answer the question or we stop the interview.  I know this will never happen but it would be good to see and we might hear less piss been spouted.

Nagger Munchety once terminated an interview with Ian Blackford because he referred to Boris Johnson as "a madman"

    Wtf was wrong with that?

I see Yousaf is not too pleased with Allan Dorrans voting with the Tories to limit Margaret Ferrier’s recommended suspension to 9 days.  Fortunately he was on the losing side.

I’m assuming the Dorrans’ guy is not the sharpest tool in the box.

Isn't this all about the Tories trying to avoid a by-election in BoJo's Uxbridge seat?

Hard to figure out what was on Dorran's mind.

heard him answer a question on radio and it was the usual rambling repeating mess, early days but no change so far in him

I must admit I only heard the the first 2 questions, and rambling, repeating mess is exactly what it was.

Hard to see how it will get any better.
