Don't Edinburgh Uni  still play at East Peffermill, which is the pitch in the bottom left of your picture?  The highlighted pitches are the plastic (3G?) pitches  at West Peffermill.

  2. Ach I thought I'd do it for you!

Summer 06 - Harry Cairney (Annan Athletic)

21/11/06 - John McGlynn (Raith Rovers)

23/10/07 - Brian Reid (Ayr United)

    25/01/08 - Gardiner Speirs (Queen's Park)

08/05/08 - Dick Campbell (Forfar Athletic)

08/07/08 - Paul Martin (Albion Rovers)

12/11/08 - Jimmy Crease (Berwick Rangers)

21/01/09 - Ross Jack (Elgin City)

    26/01/09 - Keith Knox (Stranraer)

18/05/11 - Derek Adams (Ross County)

31/05/11 - John Coughlin (East Stirlingshire)

    06/06/11 - Colin Cameron (Cowdenbeath)

10/06/11 - Gus MacPherson (Queen of the South)

Those are the 30 current incumbents. There doesn't appear to be an accurate date for Harry Cairney's appointment (Annan having been non-league at the time) but I'm sure you have it! ;) Whatever it was he's still 2nd only to Billy Reid in current appointments. None of the SPL managers have been in situ longer either. The longest serving current SPL manager is Derek McInnes who was appointed at St Johnstone in November 2007, a month before Jim McIntyre at Dunfermline.

One thing it does show is the short shelf life of a manager in this country these days. 19 of 30 have been appointed within the last year or so. Only 7 men have had the job they are in for three seasons.

Of no relevance to the original post but I note that there are 9 former Dunfermline players there. How does that compare to other clubs?

  3. Unlucky.Anyone on here win a game ?

    I won a leg...

My first round opponent didn't turn up; I hung around another 3 hours before losing 3-1 in the second round. Nearly took out 100 to go 2-1 up, but missed two darts at the double. Then nearly took out a career best 137 for 2-2 but missed double 10; he then goes treble top, double top, game shot and match. Pretty pleased with the way I played, but after the big long wait it was all over so fast. I think Ted Hankey went out at the same stage, so I finish level with him. :)

    .

  4. The Scottish Darts Open draw is now out. I've got an afternoon draw for a change, so no chance of a first round exit and haring back to take in the Ross County game...

  5. 5x180's, T17, BULL? Impressive.

I guess he might have blocked the bed and sneaked in a cheeky 171 in the middle to keep the chance alive, then finished on 110. Did a moment's research, and Patrick Chaplin claims on his site that Alan Glazier managed it in the Crown in Wetherby in 1977, but it wasn't an "official match". So maybe Evans has the official record.

  6. Only in exhibitions and when messing around I'd imagine. Never in competition.

Theres a video on youtube of Bob Anderson doing 1001 in 18 darts or something ludicrous, worth a watch.

Wasn't southpaw Alan Glazier reputed to have done a perfect 1001 (17 darts) thirty-odd years ago?

  7. Regarding the financial statements posted by Brian.

I'm not sure I follow them completely, but it appears that over the year to 30/06/09 shareholders' funds improved by approximately £1.4m.

In the same period, the amount owed to creditors reduced by approximately £1.5m. Directors' loans were written down by 95%. This must presumably account for about £800k of the apparent profit. Where did the rest come from?

  8. Practice is a personal thing, different methods work for a particular individual. If you want a little insight on some of the more common and effective ways to practice, here's a link to a great little section from John Part, where he gives his own insight, although i'm not convinced Darth Maple is himself a great practicer, it's good all the same.

    Well worth a read..Good luck

    My link

    Good link - thanks.

I agree, practice is a personal thing, but I think you need variety and to enjoy it, and I find it helps if you set yourself goals - like scoring 1000 in as few darts as possible, going round the clock in doubles in as few as possible etc. Like golf, where you have to groove a swing and practice your short game and your bunker play etc, there's several skills to practice - high scoring, doubles, cover shots, tee-ing up finishes and match play - e.g. repeat 501s, if that is your game. Any practice will pay dividends, but I guess being good at doubles can win you plenty of games you might otherwise lose.

(I say this as someone who has won one match in 3 years at the Scottish Open...)

  9. If we can finally get our affairs in order, I see no reason why not.

Halliday will be this seasons and we have plenty of others who could be sold for good prices.

    Didn't the Marrs/Bonettis have a similar model?

There seem to be 2 risks here - one is getting "affairs in order" and the other is there both being talent produced and a market for that talent.

Lots of clubs hope they will stumble on a gem and cash in - no harm in that. It's still being around to cash in on that windfall that is more of a problem.

As far as I can see from this thread, no-one appears to be claiming that Livi FC is making money at present.

In which case either we are all wrong (and huge amounts of income are being generated from elsewhere - such as hospitality/sponsorship etc.), or the club is being subsidised, either willingly by benefactors (some of the Livi 5?) or accidentally/unwillingly by creditors.

Given the recent history, I find it hard to believe that there are many willing creditors around, unless people like HMRC are constrained not to ask for money up front. And there seems little evidence of unpaid bills so far - CCJs and so on. In which case, it's all a bit of a mystery (which is one reason the whole thread remains popular...)

  10. I'll have to rake through old threads to find it but I'm sure that Livi 5 had taken over the club the day prior to the meeting, that is why there was confusion as to why it was only McGruther that was allowed in to the meeting.

Regarding the setting a precedent, I don't think they have, every case should be judged individually & dealt with accordingly, I wouldn't expect the next first division club in financial trouble to get automatically demoted to the third division.

I haven't raked through the thread, but a quick search of t'interweb suggests that Livi were relegated after a meeting on 5 August, yet Livi 5 only took over on 13 August. Happy to be put right if that is not the case.

I agree that any individual case should be judged on its merits

  11. I see Livi's credit rating decreased again today.

Who is going to give Livi any credit?

From this discussion it would appear that outgoings are exceeding income at present, in which case either someone is lending them money (seems unlikely), the owners are sticking their hands in their pockets, or people aren't being paid (yet).

If the last, how soon before another disgruntled creditor takes them to court? Does Mr McGruther retain any responsibility for ensuring the business is run properly?

  12. As SD says, the move into full administration was a predetermined formality following McGruther's initial appointment, rather than news as such, and it was always clear that Rankine and McDougall were never volunteering to pay off the full debt so that would still happen. So I don't read anything into the fact it wasn't announced specifically, I just took it to be the case anyway. A CVA can't have been agreed yet, that's not a quick process and as stated above requires the publication of reports on total debt and creditors' meetings and all that malarkey.

So McGruther is in control, but it's not incompatible with his duties to operate in conjunction with the owners. He does however have legal responsibilities, to cut costs to something affordable - and we still await evidence that he's doing anything about the playing budget - and to prevent debt from continuing to build. I can't see how it's possible for them to be maintaining the current squad based on the income they're getting at the moment and I'd thus like to know where the money is coming from to keep the club going in the meantime, and on what terms.

It was reported at the time (about 5 weeks ago?) when Mr McGruther was appointed that he would decide by 18 August if the club would enter administration. I'd also assumed that adminstration was pretty much inevitable.

Is Mr McG's primary responsibility to maximise the return for creditors (whilst co-incidentally getting his fees)? Professionally, is he able to permit the business to continue to incur more debt, rather than liquidate it?

  13. How did any posters on here get on in the Scottish Open yesterday (or today??)

I scraped through in my first match but was roundly gubbed in the next round - was just awful - no rhythm or feel or anything... :(

  14. Remember the replay as I broke my collar bone playing for my school team in the morning ...What's your connection with Caley?

You are a Pars fan, I knew John Watson, Norrie McCathie and Jim Bowie really well and used to have a few pints with them on regular basis.

Roddy Macdonald didn't have anything to do with your collar-bone fracture, did he?

I started following football in Orkney in the late 60s - my family had moved there when I was 3. As we were ferryloupers, I was very aware I wasn't Orcadian, but a Fifer. So when all my school mates were fans of Celtic or Rangers (or, in the case of Jimmy Hadden, Aberdeen), I supported Dunfermline.

I loved football, and used to get Shoot! and the Football Scot - which used to feature league tables from all the leagues, junior/senior/amateur whatever; so I used to follow the fortunes of lots of teams. Caley were my Highland League team - which I followed with a bit more interest - it was a bigger league and I had relatives there. And then we moved to Inverness for a couple of years, before heading for Oban…So Caley used to be my "second team" - but I was always a Par first and foremost - that's how it is.

I spoke briefly to John John super John at the Pars Supporters Trust golf day in October - his team (bandits) beat my team (Shaggy Jenkins etc) into 2nd place - John was trying to organise an old-timers game against some boys from Amsterdam - I think he got Ziggy to play, and Ross Jack and a few other legends - Roy Barry and the Dall twins…(I guess that's another combination that you don't see too often)...

  15. Blimey - that's some memory you have, PRS.

The Inverness select game, I think, was at the Clach park.

Mea culpa - my memory on the other hand is clearly playing tricks. I think I was sat in front of Jim Denny, Graham Fyfe and some other Ibrox superstar of yesteryear - possibly Alfie Conn (?), but I wasn't interested in getting their autographs - I only ever got 2 footballers' autographs - Chic Allan's and Geoff Hurst's.

Perhaps I can test your memory by dredging up a half-remembered headline from that era - something along the lines of "Thom and Gerry play cat and mouse with Caley" which I think referred to a gubbing off Elgin and won some sort of award? I think it was in the Highland News, but it was a long time ago...

  16. Interesting thread; I don't think I ever saw Caley play in the Highland League, but I do remember my dad taking me to a game at Telford St in about 1972. I think it was a 3-3 draw against Inverness Thistle in some sort of cup-tie? Can anyone confirm that or is my memory playing tricks?

The only other time I was at Telford St was an Inverness Select against Rangers - finished 5-2, with Davy Johnston scoring twice. Anyone remember that game?
