Of the present squad i would only try and keep Gibson Connelly and Todd..

Wonder if  we will get a player update who has been released .

I hope that deals can be reached to get McKechnie, Doherty and Hutchinson offloaded.  I agree with you completely about Gibson and Connelly, and would like to see Mimnaugh back too.  As for Todd I'd be pleased if he stayed but not overly devastated if he went elsewhere.  I think given his Carlisle / Annan connections he's a player that McLinden may like to keep at the club.

    Jordan Houston guys ?

Signed for us tonight, see he played a few games for you, any good ?

Injured for more than half of the season, singled out as a scapegoat by Bartley more often than not when he did play - as were most of the defenders at some point to be fair.

I thought he was decent enough, probably a better option than our regular RWB/RB Logan, but didn't get a fair crack of the whip.  I'm surprised he's dropped a division, he'll be a good acquisition (fitness permitting) for League Two.

  3. Isn't it amazing how a simple update on what's going on at the club can instill some positivity?  In recent years it seemed like the only time the outgoing board members would pop their heads above the parapets was when they made a hamfisted apology for a cock-up of their own making.  Lots of questions have been asked - on this forum, at least - since Mr McLinden joined the board and he seems to have addressed most of those in his statement.  Maybe he is a P&B lurker? 🤣

We'll see if the openness continues if and when things go pear-shaped, but it's a promising start.  At least he sounds welcoming, unlike the current board who (maybe unintentionally) gave the impression that the fans were a bit of a nuisance to them.

Good to see Dan Armstrong getting recognition to, although I have to be honest and admit I have no idea what his role as CEO means or involves 😆

Regarding the squad size, I'm guessing that last season we were the only club in the league to name nine subs in every game?  I think on a matchday we could probably get away with a named squad of around 17 players, so, allowing for injury and suspensions I would hope that the 20 man squad would contain said number (17 or so) of players who the manager would be wanting to be pressing for regular starts with say four or five youngsters as back up who would still get some gametime to be blooded properly.  Bartley seemed to give the impression that he wanted to develop young players, but not ours it would appear.  Currie, Ross & Burns got what, 5 minutes gametime between them last season?  I can't recall Kennedy featuring at all.  If these boys can be gradually introduced to the full team rather than just getting a place on the bench that can only be good for them as individuals and the club as a whole.

I have my own thoughts on the budget, but I'll wait to see Greenacres' comparison as to how it compares to our rivals before revealing them!

The shares are held by the Trust and the membership is open to all and can change and will change as the years go on. People join re join leave come back etc. Currently there are 115 members but a few years ago it was over 300 when the membership drive was really pushed for the whole close season.

So really rather than saying "Help give fans a stronger voice", it would have been more accurate to say "Help give the Trust a stronger voice" or "Help give 115 selected fans a stronger voice".

As a matter of genuine interest, who in the Trust decides on how Trust funds are to be spent?  Do all members get a say?  What happens if there is an approximate 50/50 split on, say, whether the Trust should sponsor a player?  It's rare in any walk of life for all members of an organisation to be singing from the same hymnsheet all of the time.

Hopefully we can sign Annan better players but this is our problem a player from Annan will make more with a decent job and playing part time with them.

Hopefully our new director and eventually board will really back Murphy with a decent budget if not he has a very difficult job of trying to attract decent full time players .

It shows how broken we are as supporters the now that we're discussing the logistics of sacking our new manager, 40 minutes after he's been announced

And Greenacres already gloomy as, being Greenacres, and having the financial facts at his fingertips before the new board are even in the door, he knows Murphy won't be given a competitive budget so will struggle to sign... anyone... and be doomed to failure as a result.

On another note, I hope he doesn't bring Kilsby back even if he did get a tune out of him at Annan.

Nothing to stop them staying part time

We’ll be very lucky if the old mainstand passes its Health & Safety checks this Summer. The end is nigh 😔

The old stand being condemned would be an apt ending to the builder’s stewardship.

I remember an interview Hewitson did a good few years ago with Border TV (whatever it's called now) and he was saying that it wasn't far off being condemned. I did wonder how it's lasted so long since then. It's obviously scraped by the last few years.

And Hewitson's statement at the AGM included:

“I am here to inform you that the current Board will be stepping down at the end of the season.

After service of a combined 57 years, we feel it is time to allow for new direction and fresh blood to continue propelling the football club forward.

The Club is in a healthy financial position, with key capital projects not needing to be undertaken for several years.

We will work with the new board to ensure a smooth transition and will remain in place until the end of the season.”

So basically, if the HS certificate isn't issued, the statement is wrong about the club being propelled forward, wrong about the new board being in place by the end of the season following a smooth transition, wrong about the current BOD standing down at the end of the season (albeit dependent on what they consider to be "the end of the season), probably inaccurate about the financial position given he suggested full-time football wasn't sustainable, and wrong about key capital projects (unless the upkeep and repair of the stand isn't a key capital project in Billy's eyes).  If it was condemned I wonder who would get the contract for a newbuild?  🤔

Would you buy a house from that man?

    Yes, quite possibly.

It's another typical interview performance, but we should maybe allow it now.  He makes the right noises at the start.

The whole discipline thing reminds me of what a rookie teacher might face in trying to lay down the law, perhaps out of insecurity, but finding it needs done a little differently.  I don't know if Bartley ever reached that realisation.

Ach, good luck to him.  I'll not pretend I'm not delighted he's gone, or that I warmed to him any after the initial optimism.  No real ill will though.

I can't criticise the appointment of Bartley because to me, it looked eminently sensible.  I hope the next one proves more successful though.

The insecure rookie teacher comparison is an interesting one.  I sometimes got the feeling he forgot that he was employed principally to train and put a football team on the park that would win games and instead sees himself as a kind of educational guru / life coach hence his preference for signing so many young players who he thought he could easily influence and instruct.

Yes there’s probably a truth in a lack of respect. It would also seem likely that a number of our players are ill disciplined arseholes.

Yes, but you have to earn respect, not demand it.

There is one player in particular at the club who I suspect to be an ill disciplined arsehole, but I would have him back next season in a heartbeat.

Sandra teeing it up as “you’ve decided to move on” sums up a season of horrendous interviewing.

”All good things come to an end”. His delusions clearly don’t though.

”I’ve handed out over 100 fines this season”. Maybe that’s a strong clue that the players never respected him. No surprise.

Yes, he seems to suggest that him leaving wasn't down to his poor performance, he is only going because he wanted to help out the new board by letting them choose their manager.

So, our bad season was down to:  injuries (despite us having probably at least the second biggest squad in the division) and the BOD not giving him enough money to be competitive (yet he still managed to assemble the said bloated squad rather than invest his budget wisely).

Then, he seems to blame players for playing when not fully fit (maybe if he hadn't signed so may duds he could have relied on squad depth - and remind us Marvin, who picked them to play?);  player indiscipline;  players conning him into thinking that they were something that they weren't;  players with bad attitudes;  signing targets being greedy by demanding a full time wage...

But he loves every one of them, and they all love him.

    As Mac Davis sang:

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
When you're perfect in every way
I can't wait to look in the mirror
Cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man
Oh Lord It's hard to be humble,
But I'm doing the best that I can

  11. I see the attendance at yesterday's "pay what you can" dead rubber was almost double that of the Mo/Queens blip result game at Links Park in December.

If any evidence was needed that regular ticket prices at this level are grossly overpriced, especially when you consider the quality of football on offer, then this is it.

Not for me has not the experience we need unless we try the hybrid model which means we could pick up the likes of Goss etc.from Annan .

You have a ready made manager in Wullie Gibson if Murphy leaves

Annan with Gibson in charge and QOS with Goss up front.  What a nightmare scenario for football in the South West.

  13. 5 hours ago, HighlandQueen said:

Sorry let me spell it out. Peter Murphy manager of a part time Annan team that just stayed up with a bunch of old pros isn’t very ambitious imho…

"A part time Annan team that just stayed up with a bunch of old pros"

... that finished 2 points behind a full time Queen of the South team that just stayed up with a bunch of under 23s.

Murphy is one of the better prospects we could look at although I'm not sure he would even be mentioned if it wasn't for his friendship with our director.

Old pros? Not really sure about that when you look at Annan's squad.

Aye, apart from Fleming, Swinglehurst and Gibson (who can still stroll it in this league) I'm not sure who HQ is referring too.

Anyways, what players would you like to keep for next season? I’d only have Gibson, Reilly and McLelland out this seasons lot.

Obviously a lot will depend on whether we go part time, stay full time or adopt a hybrid approach.

We've currently got Cochrane, Church, Brydon, McKechnie, Doherty and Hutchinson contracted.  I'd be looking to reach agreements with the latter three to leave.

Of the rest, I'd hope to keep Gibson, Mimnaugh and Connelly.  With McClelland (if available) and Todd I'm on the fence.  No-one else.

  15. 6 minutes ago, HighlandQueen said:

Yes but came in later in the season and to work with what he had. Look at him keeping us up and his record at Thistle and Ayr. View his career achievements….

You could argue that AJ's two championships, a challenge cup and manager of the year award make him a good candidate, but I wouldn't want him back.  I'm not saying McCall would be a bad choice, but I think we would be better looking elsewhere as, like some have said above, he prefers to work with a big (though never quite big enough) squad, is a bit of an abrasive character and there's no guarantee he would stick around if things weren't going well.

Even his leaving speech sees him finding an excuse not to blame himself (all down to injuries) for the catastrophe he's overseen.  In fact, if next season is an improvement, he's trying to muscle in and take some of the credit because of the great strides young players have made under him!  Unbelievable!  I wonder who he'll con into giving him a job next?

    Despite all of that...
