  1. He is, but even then he's valuable to a team like Saints which is otherwise predictable. No defender quite knows what he's going to do because he doesn't either, so they have to put a couple of players on him just in case. That frees up others. His value lies in the threat of what he could do rather than what he actually does. I did sometimes wonder if other teams would just leave him to run because the product (outside his three-month golden period) was rarely worth the journey there. My son affectionately referred to him as Forrest Gump.
  2. There aren't outstanding instalments. What must have been the full net transfer fee received for O'Halloran (£447k) appeared in last year's accounts as income. (And the argument that this might have included instalments from May's transfer the previous year doesn't hold water. That fee - £812k - appeared in full in the 2015 accounts.)
  3. I take it back. We should have announced this at the end of the tinned veg aisle in Tesco.
  4. It would be a bit scabby if the new signing was unveiled at the end of the tinned vegetables aisle in Tesco.
  5. Doesn't really matter - the same old tightfisted chairman jibes will come out next time around as they did when Swanson wasn't signing a new contract. You'd expect, reading between the lines, that Millar may have been offered and accepted a similar deal to the one Scobbie turned down.
  6. Certainly sounds as if he's holding out for a decent player and is the sooking up to Rangers for a purpose? Also good to see he recognises that signing one player affects his budget for others.
  7. I just remember Ando's distribution being shocking – though I admit I've never actually wanted to go back and look at the highlights. Think he was really off-form for the first part of that season
  8. Ando's still around. I have nightmares about his performance against Alashkert at McDiarmid.
  9. tbf we do best when we have horrendous draws. Rosenborg and Luzern were nasty ties that few would have given us a chance in. We also drew with one of the best Turkish sides the year before. But put us against diddies like Alashkert and we struggle.
  10. Their best players are ancient. Easily exploited by a team with a bit of pace – oh.
  11. Rangers didn't win their last 20-odd European games. Quite a track record to keep up.
  12. How can anyone claim the chairman has a 'constant focus' on penny pinching the day after we sign Scougall? I'd imagine the situation is simple and unchanging: Wright has a budget for players. Brown keeps him to it. So if Wright wants to re-sign Mannus and Millar, tempt Scougall here and can't get rid of the players he signed last summer, that takes away from what he can offer others.
  13. Yeah, he was I think – and if I remember that's when Graham scored almost all of his goals. I don't recall them as having much of a partnership when Macca returned.
  14. But he's a similar of player in my book. MacLean and Graham playing alongside each other would be comically immobile. And I don't think that's just my opinion: I can't recall them playing together much last time around – or at least not forming any sort of partnership.
  15. He'd be a replacement for MacLean, though, who most people would see as our first-pick striker. So it wouldn't improve our options that much – he only scored goals for us when MacLean was out if I remember.
  16. Why would the Aberdeen board want to negotiate a gentleman's agreement with a club with £30m burning a hole in its pockets?
  17. I don't think Tommy Wright will be our manager in a year's time. If he makes a bright start to the season, too many clubs will have run out of excuses not to hire him. That said, I'm a little envious of the more imaginative signings made by some other clubs. I don't know the reason why we're not signing those sort of players, whether it's the fact we don't offer the same wages, we're not exploring that market or perhaps it's that we've tied too much of our budget in keeping our squad together (I mean it's great having Millar and Mannus for another season, but these guys probably aren't first team certainties any more, yet won't be cheap). But perhaps our stolid approach will pay dividends as it has in year's past.
  18. It was always his story about that night I'll remember: the Lucerne goalkeeper coming out to unsettle him at his penalty and saying, 'It's just you and me.' And Tam looking bemused and replying, 'Well it wasn't going to be anyone else, was it?'
  19. Is it that simple? Isn't Watson free to leave only because he's injury prone rather than out of favour? I'm not sure Scobbie's departure will influence that.
  20. Worked reasonably well with O'Halloran, though he was 23 I think when he signed.
  21. Yeah. I don't understand how Hamilton is chosen ahead of Clark.
  22. There's lots of reasons to raise eyebrows at Mark Reynolds being picked for a squad, but Steven Anderson isn't one of them. I wouldn't sleep between now and 10 June if Ando was in the squad. And to be fair, Murray Davidson did get one shot and O'Halloran's hot period lasted three months. I don't think we can seriously suggest bias there. But going back further, plenty of evidence: the way Callum Davidson and John O'Neil were selected almost immediately after leaving Saints; or Alan Main in his prime never getting a sniff of a cap.
  23. Well I wouldn't have thought he could get one – he doesn't fulfil Canadian residency requirements.
  24. Surely you'd need to be a Canadian citizen to qualify for a passport? FIFA rules on eligibility will be far looser. Surely you'd just need to prove those? (I don't say this with any knowledge - just can't believe you need to be a citizen of a country - with all the hurdles that entails - to play for them.)
  25. Tbf rumours could be coming straight from Scougall's agent.
