  1. Good summary by Dunning there.

Im all in for 1 or two left field gambles. Ayr picked up a couple of nuggets from down south recently, albeit, also picked up a couple of absolute ringers. As long as its not half the team, I'm all for it so adding some players who know the league is Important and I'm sure Imrie is talking to players every day.

Fully understand the panic/concern in some but until we see the squad Imrie builds, I'll reserve judgement. By all  accounts, we offered very good money to Oakley, Crawford etc, that money will be used elsewhere to bring in good players.

I think Morton missed a trick by not having 1 or 2 good players lined up on pre contracts to soften the blow of a couple of our better players moving on.  Think most of us accepted they were moving before it actually happened,  so if we had a few good pre contracts lined up, there wouldn't be as much concern within the fanbase and we would have probably shifted plenty more season tickets.

Come the start of July, I'd like to think we are in a much better place!

Understand someone else was in renewing their contract late yesterday so hopefully hear who that is today.

I would keep it quiet too if I was signing those 3

Morton have agreed extensions with captain Grant Gillespie, Kirk Broadfoot and Cameron Blues.

Boss Dougie Imrie has handed the experienced trio extensions. Midfielder Gillespie, experienced defender Broadfoot and midfielder Blues were all big players for the ‘Ton last season.

Didn't realise Morton are the Daily Record.

In that case you've announced Oakley too!

I think you or Morton are certs to sign him.

Possibly but Mullen pretty much has the number 1 jersey nailed on after a great season so he may want to go elsewhere and be a guaranteed number 1 from the off.

I'd be happy for him to come in as a number 2 and provide good competition for Mullen. We will need someone to replace Jamie McDonald.

We were apparently interested last summer.

Fully understand that on the face of it it's just a man taking up the same job at a different employer for considerably more money, if Chrissy Dodds is to be believed here.

He'd get my best wishes if he was making the step up that we know he's capable of, but giving a snotty interview to the Telegraph about how much Morton means to him before jumping ship to Ayr United at the first opportunity leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

I'm not going to judge him or any player on interviews in the tele.

Oakley was probably asked 'are you enjoying your time at cappielow, how much are you loving it at Morton" and he's came out saying of course i am, love it etc etc and i believe him, you can tell how much he enjoyed his football here. Doesn't mean he is blind loyal to us if another club comes in and gives him 200 quid more a week. I'm happy in my job, but if someone phones me saying I'll give you 10-15k more a year for doing the exact same job, I'm off!

Same for Crawford, he was probably asked would you like to stay and he's said yes but if a club comes in with a better offer then of course he's going to look at it. It's probably his last "big" contract.

It's not as if they will be offering interviews to the tele, Dodds will be all over them, asking these questions to make a story!

Oakley, Crawford and Muirhead go with my best wishes and anyone else who leaves for a better deal.  Fan ownership means we need to live within our means and this will happen year in year out, particularly when we are doing well.

I'm guessing Blues and Strapp are next....

Absolutely delicious between here, the Morton forum and twitter how were throwing silly money about and being bankrolled cause we can offer a better contract to a player than Morton can. The fact of the matter is we have much better revenue streams and funds in place (AU500) to get deals like this done. I’d imagine Partick are offering more than us, but we can offer guranteed game time which will be the clincher.

    What's AU500?

Maybe it's just agents trying to get a better deal from Morton for him....

    Let's fecking hope so.

No offence to Ayr but if he does leave, I'd expect it would be to a bigger club or at least a club with better resources than both of us.

If we do lose him to you, I'd start to question this better, attractive budget I've heard we apparently have.

If my interpretation is correct as winners of league 1 it’s 125K.
Arbroath it’s £175K for dropping down.

    From 9th - 5th it’s £188K - £250K.

    4th is £325K. 3rd is £400K. 2nd is £475K.

    DU as champions get£563K.

    Relegated Livi get £1.125M.

Financially you can see how it’s so difficult for all first division clubs to compete. Interesting to see if Livi will throw cash at players in an attempt to get straight back to the promised land.

Remember that the spfl pay out prize money throughout the season though so it won't be like Livvy are coming down with that in the bank. I know there's a parachute payment too.

They have lived on the crowds of Hibs,Hearts, Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen for years, will be interesting how they cope without that money.

Their average last season was 3750, probably half that next season.

Garrity in discussions with Morton, he’s one I was hoping for but can’t see it now

I'm not convinced Garrity will sign.

He's at an age where he will want to play every week and I dont think Imrie can promise that.

He's well liked at Morton but if he has a few offers from League 1 where he will probably play week in week out, he might consider it rather than on the bench every week in the Championship.

Only issue will be compensation I guess.

I'd like him to stay but wouldn't be surprised if he moves on.

We have a problem in midfield. Ideally King would be challenging for one of the vacancies, or become cover for Wilson’s inevitable injuries, while challenging for Crawford’s vacant position. Reports from Clyde fans suggest he’s still some way off that. Hopefully they’re wrong because it looks like he’s going to feature heavily next season regardless. Hopefully not at left back.

I don't think King will be anywhere near our starting 11 next season even if every out of contract midfielder leaves. The budget is increasing by all accounts, we have offered current players attractive deals and if they don't take them, someone else will.

I wouldn't be surprised if King leaves or is back out on loan. If you can't cut it at Clyde, he's got next to no chance of breaking through next season. Seems he still has the same issues which forced Dougie to put him out in the first place.

  10. Crawfords probably been our most consistent player over the last two years and will be pretty gutted to see him go. (Alongside Oakley and Strapp)

Surprised if a deal has been done before you know which league you will be in but if you are in the Championship next season, he will be very good for you IMO. Works his absolute arse off for 90 minutes. Its def not a dull signing.

Local rag saying we offered same length of deal so obviously came down to wages.

He was one I thought we'd hang onto as he's been quiet for a while now wish him all the best, probably the last big contract for him.

Big rebuild for us this summer.

There's no maybe about it, it's the age-old anti highland nonsense that has tumbled down the decades and refuses to accept that Scotland is actually quite a big country, has some nice bits and weegie favelas aren't the dolce vita.

Anyway, I'm fairly looking forward to Kirk Broadfoot playing football against Alex Samuel and if that doesn't work perhaps some all in wrestling too.

Samuel spent most of his time diving all over Cappielow the last time out so you might not be far off the mark with some WWE action...

I am absolutely fucking shiteing myself for this and it’s 9:30am. I really hope the players grasp just how important tonight is, what it means to everyone associated with the club.

Both Airdrie and Morton will want to win, I don’t buy that either will have their flip flops on.

I fancy us to find a way to win tonight however ultimately I don’t think it will be enough.

Surely Airdrie are resting most of the starting 11 for Tues? Would be mad to risk injuries to key players a few days before the playoffs. Fully expect a fringe Airdire team to start that game and for Queens to win comfortably.

Not convinced our players will be arsed with winning either.  Comfortable home win.

Whilst I'd like to think Airdrie will still play a relatively strong team and go for a win, I can't actually see Morton not also going for it.

Yes, it may seem like they've nothing to play for, but a loss could see them drop from 5th to 7th and from a monetary and pride aspect, 5th is far better for them. So you could even see a draw between us, even an Airdrie win, but also similar in the other game.

Either way, I'm glad I'm on the Airdrie side of things!

We can only finish 5th or 6th as Pars play Ayr so both can't overtake us.

I'm not convinced our players will give a shit about  finishing 5th or 6th to be honest unless there is some sort of bonus on offer for finishing top 5 . Going by the pre match interview with Dougie, we have a few out too.

Comfortable home win tonight for Invernes.

Suggestions of dropping Muirhead are absurd. He's always a goal threat and in a day when our goal could come from a set piece it would be ludicrous having him on the bench.

I would also start Bearne, he deserves another start after last weeks performance. In some ways he was like the fresh player we didn't sign in the January transfer window. He didn't look jaded or fatigued like some others have been recently. A young lad who hasn't played a lot of minutes he should have a lot in his tank even at this stage in the season.

Don't think its absurd at all.

There's no doubting his threat/talent but he's also shown very little of it since his hat-trick at the start of January. 3 goals in his last 13 games, with one being a pen and another being a bad mistake from Cal Ferrie last week for the free kick. It's hardly undroppable form.

No player should be starting every week purely because he's decent at set peices. Need to be doing a lot more and Dougie is first to point that out when McGrattan, Garrity, Bearne etc start and have little impact. They are dropped the following week. Not shy in dropping O'connor either which I think is harsh.

Don't think anyone is saying he's pish here, simply saying we should be able to mix it up a bit when players are off form which he has been for a couple of months now.

Anyway, he will start tomorrow and hopefully he scores another hat-trick!

My recollection (could be wrong) is that Morton were on top mid-season having played 2 or 3 games more than us and beaten us around Christmas at Firhill in a scrappy game.  We caught Morton once we played those games in hand, and played attractive attacking football most of the season with SOD and ATS as pacy wing backs and Erskine, Lawless and Doolan all on great form.  We doled out some pumpings scoring 5, 6, and 7 goals - and won the league by 11 points in the end. It's the only season I can remember where there was oodles of confidence around the club from quite early on that we were going to be champions.

McNamara left us for Yinited midway through (a nervy moment) but that was a key turning point as we started to win away games under Archibald which we had struggled to do before.  Yes we were lucky with the fogged off game against Cowdenbeath - but the 1-0 win over Morton at a buzzing Firhill was just a very cagey and tense affair, with neither side playing their best.

You've got to give credit to Partick that year ( can't quite believe I'm saying that). They went the last 18 games unbeaten I think, winning 13 and drawing 5 or something like that. They were just too good for us in the end. I thought when we won at Xmas  at Firhill we would go on and win it but Partick went on a great run and were deserved winners.

We lost a couple of games before the Thistle one, Raith and Hamilton away and Dumbarton at home which cost us dearly.

Was a good scrap that season!

I cant help but view this game as a must win rather than a must-not-lose, given our remaining home games being against the top two, and 2 away games being direct rivals for the play offs, 1 against a team we have a horrendous record against in recent years and 1 against an ICT team that may have it all to play for to avoid the playoff spot on the final day,

Airdrie on firs glace have a tougher looking final 6, but i feel the likes of Patrick will have downed tools by the time they face them if they have guaranteed a play-off place by that point.  so IMO we need to be picking up max points from this. I don't think it would be a terrible idea to Drop Muirhead for this one (nothing against the lad on the whole) get a Combination of Bearne and Garrity/McGrattan/Quitongo (prefered to rile the home fans)  to inject some pace in the wide channels  behind Oakley.  We've lacked alot of positive attacking play since George got injured and been far too static in the front line forcing us back far too often and resorting to hit and hope long balls.

Dougie is never dropping Muirhead unfortunately with him being our top scorer, set piece taker etc.

I like the big man but shouldn't be undroppable especially when not doing enough in games.

We started like a train the last time against Airdrie with Garrity and Quitongo on the wings. We looked so dangerous and both were involved in our 2 early goals.

I'd play one of them alongside Bearne abd give the big man a rest but Dougie won't. Muirhead can still be dangerous off the bench.

It's probably the one criticism you can aim at Dougie with his loyalty to Blues and Muirhead. Good players but shouldn't simply walk into the starting 11 every week. No doubt when Wilson comes back, he keeps Blues in the team and moves him to right wing!( I like Blues too btw)

However, in Dougie we trust etc etc.

  17. Think this falls into the must not lose category for us although most Morton fans(myself included) will probably think we need to win this, especially with DU and Raith still to play. Simply can't afford to go 5 points behind Airdrie with 5 to play, would take something extremely special to overturn that.

We looked much better on Sat than recent weeks, could easily have scored 4 or 5 and never gave much away at the other end so hopefully we take that into Saturday.

Strapp missed out on Sat but thought Waters did well in his absence. Dougie keeps his cards very close to his chest on availability so who knows when Wilson and Strapp will be back. Wilson is apparently back training. I wouldnt be surprised if it was the same starting 11 as Saturday though.

Good result for Airdire last night, hopefully a bit of tiredness kicks in and we can take advantage.

Nervy, tight game but I fancy us to edge it. Hopefully we take a decent crowd through, 5-600.

    1-2.

  18. No one is catching Partick in 3rd.

Fully expecting the final playoff space to go to the last weekend though.

From a Morton perspective, we looked more like ourselves on Sat so I'm hopeful we can give it a right go. We probably need to win in Airdrie next week. ( hopefully Arbroath can pick up something tomorrow too). At least it's in our own hands, 6 wins and its job done!

Will twist and turn every week no doubt.

  19. 3 hours ago, TxRover said:

That's DU about 75% to win the league, if I remember @Fuctifano's numbers. DU control their own fate, but can't draw or lose without giving Raith a chance...even one draw would allow Raith the opportunity to win out and take it.

DU are assured third or better.

Raith are assured fifth or better, and are almost a lock for at least the playoffs with a +8 GD on a Morton side that can just catch them with all wins and no Raith points.

Partick are now clear of the relegation playoff zone, as ICT can no longer overtake them.

Pars, Morton, Airdrie, Ayr and Queen's Park could all probably end up nearly anywhere between 4-8, but Queen's are nervously holding onto that.

ICT are in a genuine spot of of bother, with Arbroath having almost no hope to catch anyone except, perhaps, ICT...but it would be the longest of longshots.

Falkirk have assured promotion, so the trapdoor playoff competition will be three of the Accies, Alloa, Cove and Morton...which might be enough of a challenge for our ninth place team.

At the top, it certainly looks like St. Johnstone or Ross County, but the Don's and Motherwell are still in with a shot. Any of those four are beatable on the right day, but it's still a tall ask to do it over two matches, after a brutal series of matches to see who plays them.

    Alloa Accies, Cove and who????
