  1. I think it's pretty obvious Scotland have improved, no matter how frustrating that makes losses. We are playing better rugby than we have in a while. I don't think binning Cotter will achieve anything.

This. He's also just getting his own coaches in place now. By contrast, the results in the corresponding fixtures 2 years ago were 20-0 vs England and 51-3 vs Wales.
  2. Leigh Halfpenny who plays for the French and European champions with 508 international points and has played on 2 lions tours doesn't offer much other than goal kicking? From a pure entertainment point of view I probably would rather watch Liam Williams but I think that's incredibly harsh on halfpenny.

Even if the Welsh backs are not on as good form as the Scots (I don't agree) that wouldn't negate the point that guys like North have another gear they can go to when necessary that we dont have.

Out of interest what would people's Lions XV be for a test v new Zealand tomorrow?

Pack of Healy, Hartley, Nel, Jones, J Gray, Warburton, O'Brien, Falateu. Backs much harder to choose from in my opinion and will probably depend on who is coaching.
  3. Are you saying Stuart Hogg is better than Leigh Halfpenny?

Anyway, although Italy have done what we've seen them do a million times and crumbled in the second half having competed well in the first, they've shown enough for us to be very worried. I can't see us winning a game this tournament.

He is. Apart from goal kicking Halfpenny doesn't offer that much. The general consensus amongst Wales fans seems to be that they are happier with Liam Williams in the team at full back.

The idea that Scotland's outside backs are second rate is absolute nonsense. The back 3 yesterday are better than their Irish and Welsh counterparts on current form (North's try aside, he has been honking for ages).

Denton has been absolutely anonymous for the past 2 games, hopefully Adam Ashe is fit for Rome or give Strauss a chance.

  4. Got tickets for the game against Cardiff at scotstoun yesterday for block I in the main stand. Good view or rubbish? Its my first time at scotstoun so should be good

I think that's near the ends but should be a decent view providing you're not down in the front few rows.

But going by the state of the Scotstoun pitch, there's a good chance the game will be moved.

  5. Another PR gripe is the championship winning photobook which was marketed as an exclusive item that you should preorder. I did so and had to pay an extra £4 for postage, then they started selling them at Scotstoun before the preorders had even been dispatched. They made some comment on twitter that those who preordered would get an exclusive signing session, but that came to nothing.

  6. Glasgow have the biggest squad in the league and with the amount of squad rotation Townsend uses they could surely put together a team for a midweek match later in the season or on a 6 Nations weekend. Plus there could be two free weekends in April if neither team progress from Europe.

Was planning on heading straight from Broadwood on Saturday to Scotstoun but will never make the game now.

  7. Barring any injuries in the warmup games, I think 26 of our squad picks itself. Reid/Grant, Jackson/Weir and 2 from Hamilton/Wilson/Ashe/Denton (depending on how many second and back rows VC will take) will be fighting it out. Dunbar/Vernon too but I can't see the former being fit with less than 2 and a half weeks until the squad is announced.

    My 31 would be:

    Dickinson, Reid, Nel, Welsh, Cusack

    Ford, Brown, McInally

J Gray, R Gray, Gilchrist, Hamilton

    Harley, Barclay, Cowan, Strauss, Ashe

    Pyrgos, SHC, Laidlaw

    Russell, Jackson

    Horne, Scott, Bennett, Vernon

    Seymour, Maitland, Lamont, Visser, Hogg

  8. So you must have enjoyed that. How was the trip?

I've had about 3 hours sleep since 6am yesterday morning and got totally soaked to the bone but totally worth it. The atmosphere in that inflatable Guinness tent after the game was electric.

Wow. What a result. I was soaked, but loved every minute of it. The nervous Scot/St Mirren fan in me was worried something would go wrong, but when Duncan Weir slotted the kick and some of the Munster fans departed you knew it was all over.

Nakarawa was immense. Just immense. The tactics and set pieces were spot on.

Niko totally fed off the boos too, he absolutely loved being the 'villain'.

Delighted to have been there and delighted for all the players.

Ditto. I was a bag of nerves from the first whistle until Weir's penalty. I was on the West Terrace and a few Ulster fans were giving Niko pelters when he was going back to the bench after warming up. He started yawning at them and a couple of the guys were spitting with rage.

  9. Anyone from here going to the game tomorrow? I'm getting the bus from Glasgow at the back of 8 and ferry at 11.30, back home Sunday. More confident of a win this year than in the last final.

  10. Ryan Wilson was found guilty and fined £750. Charges against Grant and Hughes were not proven. The reports are brilliant.

"A minion, a red crayon and others in fancy dress were nearby as the incident unfolded."

"Richie Vernon - who was dressed as a shark."
  11. Pro12 final will take place at Ravenhill this year, seems strange to have just changed this rule midseason. Tickets go on sale next week, apparently only 2000 tickets will be held back for the finalists. Seems a bit farcial if it's a Glasgow vs Ospreys final with both teams having to travel to a different country, or Leinster vs Munster which usually gets crowds of over 40,000.

  12. We had SA in 2007 at Murrayfield. Think it was SA, Italy and Ireland.

These games are more about gelling and not getting injured that anything else.

Aye. Gonna be tough. Bath look back to their best and a different proposition from the team that played at Scotstoun. I think we can say that Glasgow have done themselves and the Pro12 proud, but can't see them winning in Bath. Gonna need a lot of luck and the A+++ game.

Nico isn't good enough passer to start at scrum half, nor good enough on the wing. Miss his spark certainly, but not too worried about his departure.

Must start with Pyrgos next week. I don't think the Nico-Finn Russell combo works.

I suspect Warriors are looking at a list of potential scrum halfs for next season already hastened by Nicos departure. Wonder if some of the London Scottish boys might be on the radar although think they are both under contract- Jamie Stevenson is the former U20 who gets talked up.

Agree with you on Niko. I wonder if Sean Kennedy will be moved to Glasgow, he was impressive in his previous loan spell and seems to have lost his way at Edinburgh.

Mike Blair will be out of contract at Newcastle in the summer. He'll be 34 but might be worth a season, given Pyrgos could well be away during World Cup and Six Nations time.

  13. Owens was one of the better refs a few years ago but he's more interested in being a celebrity these days and thinking up his next "witty" comment. He handled Glasgow's games in Leinster and Ulster very poorly in 2014. Apart from the Niko try I thought Clancy had a surprisingly decent game, best ref at Scotstoun for a while anyway. For me Walsh has went the opposite to Owens and I'd rate him as the best ref in rugby just now.

Can't wait to see Josh Strauss in a Scotland shirt.

  14. Going to the Glasgow v Munster game today. Is it okay to park in Southbrae Drive and walk down from there, or is Southbrae residents parking only?

I'm pretty sure Southbrae Drive is fine to park on, the permit area is for streets south and west of the stadium if I remember right.
  15. How come England and Wales played this weekend and Scotland didn't?

There is only a 3 week international window in November but England and Wales usually organise a 4th game outside the window for £££.
  16. Bit dissapionted that what is hopefully our first choice centre pairing for years to come in Scott and Bennett are hardly going to get any game time together before the word cup now Bennett is out for 12 weeks, just when Scott is coming back in time for the 6N's.

Will be a big test against Tonga but if the defence is on a par with the last 2 games (well first hour agaisnt Argentina anyway) we should be ok.

We're spoilt for choice in the centres now, I think Dunbar is a key player and I have no idea what combination of those 3 would be our strongest. Decent back up in Horne too, and Lamont played well at 13 last week.

Our defence will be significantly weaker with Maitland injured, dreading the prospect of a big Tongan winger running at Visser. Lack of depth at tighthead is worrying.

Could be a tough game for Glasgow tonight at Scarlets with all the players on international duty. Got a decent pack out but playing what are probably the 5th and 6th choice centre and wings, and Horne looks set to do the place kicking.
