The WOSFL clarified before the match that any such clauses are invalid in their competitions.

    Thanks for this.

An interesting comment from the league. it used to be the SFA registrations department that decided on clauses being legitimate or not as any illegitimate clauses would see it rejected.

think next Saturday's scores can see arthurlie being relegated in the scenario if they lose to Hurlford at Blair park and Glenafton beats krr at Loch Park

Correct, hence my annoyance at the manager yesterday for not going all out for the win and bringing some more attacking players on until the last 5 minutes!!

Your points are all good points but there is no way you can tell how well clubs will do in cup ties or how the weather will be over the winter

point 1 you play some midweek games at start of season and get knocked out all the cups in the first round with no weather problems and your finished early

point 2 The west of Scot cup final is being played this weekend as it’s the only date that is safe for playing at Broadwood because the ladies teams play out of there and they presumably will have priority

point 3 The 2 leg semi finals are okay as long as you are not in other cups that are being played around the same time and you are involved in them also

point 4 It looks like if your club is successful in cup ties and get through to the later stages of all the cups you are punished for being successful

there is so many scenarios that change every season and not always the same clubs involved that it’s very hard for the fixture secretary to predict and with lots of restrictions on dates etc that are hampering the process. If you have an Astro facility for example most of your games will be on and if you have lights that would help also but then you have that the 2 teams have to agree any fixture swaps which doesn’t help either if a team has 3 games left and a team has 10 games why would the team with 3 agree to a swap and let the team with 10 games be forced to play 3 games in 7 days although there is some who would like teams to be playing Monday , Tuesday and Wednesday which in our new professional set up doesn’t make sense and there is nobody in the SPFL who would do it but that’s what some want senseless

I agree, that given the climate in Scotland you can’t always predict weather etc, but you can give yourself the best possible chance of finishing on time (remember this is about having to go beyond the date the league was due to finish).

In regards to cups, I agree it does feel like you’re punished for being successful, but there are things that could have been done to mitigate this. And on Broadwood availability, the league have decided that all finals are to take place at Broadwood, they don’t have too, and alternative venues could be found if availability is an issue. It is nuts it is scheduled for this weekend when we are not going to get the league finished by the original date.

Kennie had a hard job herding the cats to get the league done, but more could and should be done by the wider league to make things easier. There is no 1 size fits all and clubs are always going to be disadvantaged (had always been that way) but we shouldn’t be in the position where clubs, could, be given an unfair advantage.

  4. A couple of points.

    1. Clubs should be told that there is 2 rounds of midweek fixtures to start the season to assist with planning at the end of the season

    2. Why are we playing the WOS Cup final this weekend. You know that you have a date to finish the league so why not wait until after then.

    3. As much as the 2 legged semi finals brought crowds and attention it cannot be allowed to happen again with the impact on the fixtures.

    4. There is also an impact at the bottom with the (unlikely) scenario that Glens might not be completely safe and know what they need to do.

Who's in charge of Irvine Meadow? They seem to be getting horsed week in week out!

I think it is still Ben Carson (unless I have missed something). They kept trying to encourage the players even at 4-0 but some of the goals they gave away tonight were shocking.

To be fair, Arthurlie calling any other ground poor is like a homeless person slagging your curtains! That place is falling to bits with no ability or finance to fix it.

Were you 1 of the 5 fans/committee that turned up earlier this season? I agree Dunterlie is looking tired but to say it is falling apart is a nonsense. There has been significant money invested in replacing the retaining walls on the Carlibar road side and behind the goal at the station end with further work planned. A disabled toilet was fitted to our disabled supporters area, along with a newly fitted kitchen to the tea bar to improve the productivity for the tea bar. I believe further work is being planned for the summer.

All this being done while discussions have been held about a potential ground move in the near to medium future rather than letting the ground fall further into disrepair.

To be honest, I really couldn’t care about the toilets, pies etc.

It’s the fact it’s a shit experience to watch football.
View from one side of the ground, that in some places is broken up by 5 aside goals meaning there is areas you can’t stand.

Flat viewing which means anyone standing at the barrier blocks the view for anyone who uses the  porta cabin seating sections.

There is plenty of space behind the fence at the dug outs for money to be spent to at least create elevated standing sections like Petershill have.

I believe there was a ‘podium’ for the ref to pick the ball from when players walked out, you have a ‘score board’ between the dug outs, all vanity things, but meanwhile pumping money on players and leaving the paying punter with a shit place to watch football.

It is easy to not care about fans when you have very few and dont rely on them to fund the club!!

    Ok children calm down...

the below containers have been installed which are toilets and a food cube but not completed yet and more will arrive. The portaloos were taken away due to the fact we didn't have a home game in 7 weeks and now don't have one for another 3 weeks so wasn't much point. The sporty provided toilets for the pollok guys and same for our last game v Hurlford.

full hospitality was given to the committee (who didn't turn up) and the players who we gifted 3 goals lol

see all you lovely people next season where I'm expecting Arthurlie and Polloks grounds to offer sushi or any hospitality for that matter. Well maybe we won't see Arthurlie right enough.

    thanks all

    IMG_8340.jpeg

Well, unless we draw each other in a cup we won't be visiting. You make flippant remarks about sushi etc but maybe if your club offered anything maybe people wouldn't pass comment. Maybe take some of the money you are paying your big names that the club (apparently) generates through it business club to improve the spectator experience and maybe that would attract more home fans too.

The fact the club are more than happy to plough larger amounts into their playing staff while not improving the facilities (not just Gartcairn btw) or using other clubs is why I have an issue with how the game is currently run at this level.

If Gartcairn were a fairly new club at semi-pro level down in the lower reaches of the WOS I'd be understanding of their ground being as it is. Much less so of a club that's been playing at a semi-pro level for a decade & has players like Ian McShane, Kieran MacDonald & Thomas Reilly on their books.

Spot on and given that they were allowed to join over a decade ago without a ground at that time and with promises of that being rectified within a few months of the season starting, you have to question the process that was undertaken at that time and why clubs that voted them in were lied to.

    All of that was missing.

Toilets and a vending machine in the leisure centre. The guy there told us there was a cafe up the road but never bothered.

What happened to the much heralded food hub they said was up and running. I missed our game up there this season thankfully but It is a terrible venue. When they applied for membership of the SJFA a lot of big promises in relation to their ground was made at that time, none of which has happened.

  11. Really pleased with the result and performance. Thought we were the better team and could have added a couple at the end. Burgh’s big players didn’t fire at all. Lafferty was ineffective bar his diving antics and shushing the crowd when getting called out for it. Dorrans was anonymous with the game passing him by.

Great crowd marred by some of the young team throwing cans and other objects at the Arthurlie players after our equaliser and 1 of them at the end trying to fight with a player who was trying to see his family. The vast majority of the young team brought colour and noise to the game and should be applauded for creating and excellent atmosphere. Crowd must have been between 3k-4k.

Im starting to feel like a broken record with this  but I don't feel like my question is being answered properly. And I'm not anti SJC.

Why if the same 4 teams were in the semis of the SJC and the WOSFL Cup would the attendances be higher at the SJC games and don't give me its the history crap and I'm not a Junior man. A good game of football is a good game of football no matter the competition.

I'm not aiming this at you a1981, it's just your comment got me thinking. Answers from anyone please, I genuinely want to understand why?

Not wanting to turn this into another thread of 2 sides from entrenched positions calling each other wrong but I will make a couple of points.

    1. In answer to your question, I think (and you are not going to like this) for some it is the history of the competition and the recognition it currently has. There were people who I have not seen at an Arthurlie game today in years. Also some who were there from both sets will not know of what changes have happened in the past 5 years with the East teams leaving and frankly probably wouldn't care and only saw "Scottish Junior Cup Semi Final".

    2. As someone who can count on 1 hand the games I have missed this season I firmly believe that even if you say the crowd was 45% each teams support and 10% neutrals that is still more than treble what our normal home support is. In the old WOS we went to Meadow Park for the Semi and the crowd was lucky to be over 500 and the final that year at Newlandsfield between us and Kilwinning was not much higher.

At our last AGM, I proposed that Arthurlie resign their membership of the SJFA and play in the Strathclyde Demolition Cup as I felt the rewards were better. I still believe that to be the case, but today showed me there's still some interest in the old cup yet.

  13. 3 minutes ago, Thejackdaw said:

Totally agree mate and that's when the Scottish was the Scottish when it was all In with the top East teams In it ,now it's just a diluted west cup in my opinion.

I tend to agree although not sure a WOS cup semi final would get the attendances that the games got this weekend. I know the attendance was given as 1313, but it would be higher by a couple of hundred imo given kids U12 went free and they were swarming the pitch at HT.

  14. Initial thoughts on the game, Arthurlie started brighter and lead with a cracking half volley from Mark Docherty. Game became quite scrappy after that until Burgh had a period of dominance that started by Graham Black denying Kyle Lafferty with a top save. Burgh got their equaliser not long after after Layden, for some explicable reason pulled the Burgh player back in the box, with Lafferty converting. I expected Burgh to push on but they didn't and the game went in level at the break.

2nd half and this time it was Burgh who started the better but without creating many clear cut chances. Arthurlie went back in front with a fine goal from left back Connor Bradley who rode a couple of challenges before curling home, almost immediately Burgh should have levelled when Stuart McCann was denied by Black. Burgh started to dominate and levelled after a good run by McDonald was finished by our ex player Dale Simeon (fair play for not celebrating). We had a glorious chance at the end when Max Kerr went through but he chose the wrong option of trying to find Dykes rather than shooting.

Our habit of conceding poor goals continues as both goals were preventable. It now becomes a 1 off game at Kennie Park next week.

    A great crowd and atmosphere.

Well it was a bit ungracious tbh. I wish you all the best against the billionaires.

Possibly, but wasn't aimed only at Bankies. Plenty of other clubs have done so this season either with very poor starts, poor middle of the seasons and poor end to a season like yourselves.

ETA thanks for the best wishes.

Let's hope you don't shite any beds this weekend then or your season's looking pretty keech itself

Too late, we already have. We deserve to be where we are and even making it to the Junior Cup final (which tbh I dont care about). Maybe a wrong and grumpy choice of words that I used but I am getting pretty sick with this view that only certain clubs in the West want promotion to the LL based upon fan comments and preconceived bias.

  17. 7 hours ago, Clangers said:

I have just read this full 23 pages and as a complete outsider who only goes to Dunfermline games, but works with lots of people involved in EoS and LL I am not surprised that the rest of football think the WoS have a arrogance insular attitude.

The suggestion that this isn’t a massive conflict of interest just shows how backwards certain clubs are, definitely looks like the big Ayrshire clubs are bitter that football has moved on. Some of there fans have come across as arrogant c***s who feel free to denounce the opinion of anyone that doesn’t fit there agenda.

Funny thing is these teams think themselves better than Linlithgow, Bo’ness but are shitting the bed to move up

Which clubs (not supporters on a forum) have said they dont want promotion? What people seem to forget is that this is only the 3rd full season of the WOSFL. The issue of not having a licensed champion is partly down to the SFA closing new Licence applications and the fact that the main licensed contenders shat the bed this year. Beith are top having lost 3 of their best players!!

  18. What does brining the Juniors back actually mean? The WOSFL has seen little to no difference other than promotion at the top being in place which I don’t see changing as the SFA would immediately ban teams from competing in the Scottish Cup and I don’t think those that have spent a lot of money in getting their grounds up to licence standard are going to allow that to happen.

  19. 2 hours ago, Stag Nation said:

Too late now, but did the board actually have the power to disband the league without a vote of the members? I doubt it.

Whether they had the power or not, anyone disagreeing (or even just wanting an open debate) could have called an EGM.

Totally agree but I again IIRC, there wasn’t the need for a vote as all the clubs left when it was made known that there was no future for the West Region. Again IIRC correctly there was some discussion amongst some of the Lower Division teams about changing their mind but it came to nothing.

I would ask anyone who says clubs are anti pyramid to give evidence. I haven’t seen anything other than some fans opinions and while not to be discounted don’t seem to be the opinions of the clubs.
