  1. Probably never...their value is in the voting rights at an AGM. I have a small number of shares inherited from my grandfather - the only value to me is I get a copy of the annual accounts and the right to attend and vote at an AGM
  2. Answers to your questions. Yes - not SFA but SPFL No again not SFA but SPFL They are not, but they can outvote all the others put together. Also more than half of Rovers shareholding - issued in 1919 - belongs to deceased, their inheritors or otherwise untraceable owners. This is why the current chairman two years ago wanted to legally restructure the share register leading to potentially a new issue. He mentioned this at the end of the 2016 AGM when the aforesaid shareholder said he would vote this down if it was made a shareholder resolution. I suspect he will want to waltz in and install himself as Chairman (as his late father was) when he leaves the SPFL. Of course that presupposes that the Club will still be in existence then Agree....but that is not always the case....Mackin......`Shire.........for example
  3. Rovers cause is not helped by a large shareholder (and SPFL senior employee) blocking any attempts to have a new share issue. Why ? because that would dilute his holding.
  4. Am hearing Rovers already meagre budget is already overspent which means there is nothing left in the kitty to `strengthen` the team. Brogan is now talking about bringing in loan players.
  5. Mibbees no paid their bill......LOL.......maybe try this one Dianne Leslie, Commercial Manager on dianne.leslie@albionroversfc.com or on 07568187779
  6. Of course when they say `closed` all home games are observable from the hill at the back of the ground.
  7. Hmm.....Berwick retained 12....Wee Rovers ....only one (Gary Fisher) took up the club`s `offer`
  8. Three way fight for bottom slot, Ammo - Wee Rangers, Weee Rovers and QueePee
  9. Be careful guys, Albion Rovers are in the shit because of imprudent `borrowings` by directors who walked away when the going got tough. Now we can only afford youths and juniors.
  10. He got involved with the Rovers in the 1950s having made a bit of money on used (dodgy ?)car sales and like many clubs they were struggling post war. In the old two division Scottish League it used to be said that he didnt want promotion as the club could not afford it (probably right ?). He served on the Scottish League Management Committee and was the driver behind the election of Ferranti Thistly / Meadowbank Thistle to the league. Later on served on the SFA. Got a name for finding talent and selling on (cheap?) - Tony Green, Johnny Flannagan, Phil McGovern, Tommy Dunne, Jim Brown, Sam Ferris, Tony Coyle, John Brogan, Jeff king etc. He certainly had the ear of the Scottish dailies - Record and Express. It was HIS club, even big names like Frank Beattie, Ralphy Brand who came in as managers didn`t last as Fagan had reputation for interfering in team selections. Wee Ralph told me that he had to submit his team to TF for approval before telling the players or putting the team lines to the ref.
  11. New Kit... Albion Rovers are delighted to announce a new partnership with Spanish kit manufacturer Joma for the forthcoming 2018/19 season. Joma will become the club’s exclusive technical sportswear supplier for the next two seasons in conjunction with our long-term kit partners Football Nation Teamwear The Spanish company will provide us with a new home and away kit, training and leisurewear for the forthcoming season in SPFL League 2. Currently under the domestic Joma umbre...lla are the likes of Swansea, Toulouse, Villareal, Sampdoria, Getafe and Atalanta, while Fiorentina, Valencia, Seville and Deportivo de la Coruna have also enjoyed a successful partnership with the company in the past Of course in Scotland, Joma is worn by Dunfermline, Partick Thistle, East Fife, Dumbarton, Edinburgh City, Stranraer and St. Mirren. New kits and an extensive range of supporters’ leisure wear will be available both online and in the club shop over the coming weeks.
  12. A bit of a `charmer` I`d say. But ARFC was HIS club and everything had to be done his way. John Lees (he of macaroon bar fame) wanted to put in a bit of his not inconsiderable fortune in to the club - his price - to be chairman ! TF wouldn`t have it and Lees walked away although he remained a supporter - at a distance. This was late 60s / early 70s. Despite any opinion you held regarding the way he ran ARFC, I couldn`t dislike the man personally.
  13. It was ! He stayed in a bungalow on a corner just down the road from Garrowhill station iirc - it wasn`t his house tho` - belonged to his partner Ann - mother of his son Anton. TF had three sons from a previous marriage
  14. Apart from being a shareholder of ARFC, AF has no connection to the club and his SPFL job (Operations Manager iirc) is not at all dependent up any connection with the club. And yes, the ground is the only asset but the overdraft and that loan will be secured against that. No doubt he will want to waltz in and take over as chairman when he`s done with SPFL, possibly looking to get elected to some SFA position and join that gravy train. Any new share issue would significantly dilute his holdings.
  15. No apology - you talk a lot of sense. No one (unless an outright gift or loan - and a loan has always got to be paid back at some stage) will put any money in and not be allowed to acquire shares - and by that I mean more than a handful. The majority share holder - Anton Fagan - he of SPFL - and son of late Chairman Tom Fagan stated at the club`s 2016 AGM that he would use his votes (and he controls a number of proxies as well) to veto any possible changes to the share structure that would potentially bring in much needed capital
  16. The previous directors - including Steve Kirk btw - left the club in a hell of a mess financially, including a loan from a sub prime commercial lender. The club`s bankers (RBS) have reined in the overdraft as well. So yes, the budget will be very low, hence the incoming player from juniors, development etc. Time will tell but it looks like a scrap around the bottom for `Vers.
  17. Not aware he ever put any in, but no he moved on
  18. Not sure of the dates, but yes, the location is about right. Originally there was a car showroom there, owned by a Mr T Fagan. This he (and I believe one of his sons) converted into a bar with a downstairs social venue all known as The Casanova. Was successful for a number of years and the downstairs venue attracted a number of big names (Matt Monro included) for the time. The upstairs bar was always busy , particularly Friday and Saturday nights. at 11pm young Mr F used to come up and `invite` folks downstairs where there was usually a group playing -and a1 am licence ! I presume mismanagement led to a decline and the Fagans decided to sub let downstairs to the Rovers as a social club, hoping that supporters would staff it working for nowt. This never really took off and I think the whole lot folded in the early 1980s but I cant be sure about that.
  19. `Its not like they’re busy conducting multi million pound deals across continents.` Nah....just fighting off the vultures of RBS.........................
  20. Further to the above - the story regarding Scott McLaughlin was first broken by the Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser Mark Pirie who did not contact Rovers for their side of the story. Subsequently to the paper appearing with the article the Rovers tried to get in touch with Pirie but he never returned their calls.....hey ho...never let the truth get in the way of a good story...eh Mark
  21. They better hope Kerr does a better job than he did at ARFC.........should have been punted at xmas.....
  22. From Albion Rovers FC website 11th June 201811th June 2018 rovers The club would like to issue the following statement. All player and coach contracts expired at end of season 2017/18. As soon as our new manager was appointed, the club secretary made contact with all players via their internal mobile training App to invite them to meet and have discussions with the new manager. There were also discussions between individual players on the clubs’ future plans. Some players attended the meeting with the new manager, some made different arrangements with John while others declined the invitation and a few didn’t respond. We at that point presumed those not contacting the club did not wish to be involved with ARFC next season. Scott McLaughlin has now spoken to the club and we intend to move on and look forward to next season. We have spoken to the PFA and they are more than happy that we did everything reasonable to contact all the players. We at Albion Rovers pride ourselves on being an open, community minded club and wish Scott all the best for his future and thank him for his time at Albion Rovers FC.
