    Not this season.

Not this season ?? We are only 4 games in and I think it seems Dykes has become the scapegoat for the less than impressive start. I've seen all 4 games and there have been a few others who in racing parlance, 'don't appear to have trained on', he certainly has not been the poorest.

  2. At the start of the season I knew it was going to be a tough one .What I hoped for was we would be organised and hard to beat .We are neither .We dont look fit and some of the signings aren't good enough .The football on show is horrific to watch ...no pace ...no passing ....... just hump it and hope .

    [/quote

Agree the football is of poor quality, but strongly disagree about the pace, Hilson, Marshall, Harris, Smith, Oliver all have pace the major failings are poor final balls, and basic poor decision making, oh and we need a goalkeeper that moves.

  3. Two more strikers would give us 5, including Smith. When did we last have five strikers in the squad?

We've kind of replaced like for like, so far, with all five signings, certainly in terms of age and experience. It'll be interesting to see if that continues with any further signings, who would effectively replace Carmichael, Paton and McKenna

It could be argued that we had 5 strikers in the squad last season, Reilly, Lyle, Aidan Smith, Pickard and Russell, and under Mr MacPherson, at one point in the season we had 7 although that did not end very well !!The 7 being, Brighton, Smith,Clark,Smillie,McCusker,Reilly, and Parkin

  4. Carrick & Oliver on loan from Hearts as well as a wee bit cash for Reilly I hear.

If true, I hope they are just loan deals and not permanent signings. Carrick may well have been prolific early in his career, but that seems a long time ago now. Last scored against Cowdenbeath in September 2014, hasn't kicked a ball in anger since February and seems to have injury (hamstring) problems. Sorry but does not inspire me at all when you think of other proven strikers who could be 'targeted'.Not enthused by Oliver either, seems to me that they are being 'offered' so as to keep the costs low for Reilly's signature

  5. I posted the above in the Keep, Release or Undecided thread a month ago and nothing has changed for me.

Mitchell has of course already agreed to move on, and I expect Dzierzawski will follow, probably at his own request if nothing else.

Slattery seems to be doing well from what I've heard at Queens Park. I've no idea if that translates into being good enough for our first team though. Those promising performances in the 2nd Division are a long time ago now and he's well down the pecking order. It is quite possible he will want to move on to make his mark elsewhere.

All Paton has done in the proceding month since I made that post is move himself more into the "release" category and less in the "undecided" one. His only saving grace could be if we lose Carmichael and Reilly we will be short of attacking players and it might be a case of "better the devil you know". There is definitely a talent in there somewhere but he frustrates the hell out of me! Perhaps with a good pre-season under his belt he will become more consistent. He's got to be approaching last chance saloon though.

I like Clark and wouldn't object to him returning on loan again. I would like to see us sign a number 1 of our own though, register Kenny Arthur as backup, and send Jim Atkinson out on loan. The only way the youngster will progress is through playing every week and I don't think he's ready for this level.

I'd like to keep the rest but it is looking likely that a few will be off, and you can't grudge them it to be honest. Holt will be the biggest miss, he is a tremendous player and the most likely to go far of the current crop IMO. Reilly's goals will be hard to replace, but I have hope that young Aidan Smith is going to be Reilly mkII, he seems to play in a similar style and has broken through at a similar age. We've seen a lot of the good Carmichael this season, but his overall time with Queens has been hit and miss. He will be a loss if he goes, but he is certainly replaceable. There haven't been as many rumours about Durnan as there were around January. I don't know if that is because his form has dipped since then? Another year alongside Higgins and Dowie wouldn't be the worst move he could make. He'll be a miss if he goes, but again replaceable. McShane is probably the least likely to move because a fee would be involved, which is a shame. I would bite the hand off any club who would be willing to pay a fee for him. Overrated, and easily replaced.

What's the problem with McShane? Absolutely ridiculous comment to say 'overrated, and easily replaced'As a youngster still making his way in the game, of course his performances will dip. Easily the most creative midfielder at the club, and his numerous assists from set-plays have been a big bonus this season. The good Carmichael as you refer to has only recently found some kind of form, surprisingly, as he did at this time last season?Far sooner have McShane playing for Queens next season than Carmichael. McShane has improved since becoming a regular starter, whilst Carmichael is the most frustrating player at the club.

  6. Think that Baird is a decent enough player, but so far has yet to really get going at Queens. Limited chances and with Lyle playing probably better than most expected?? he hasn't had many games. Not sure that he should go though, certainly not unless another striker is in place before hand. Having said that, as a higher wage earner, if he doesn't want to stay...then maybe it's better he moves on.

  7. Not really sure that Fowler would be ready to move straight into management on his own at this stage, so it might make sense to keep him on, in his current role of player-coach, and then go for an experienced manager like Lennon,or Calderwood for example, with a view to 'promoting from within' in the future. Whatever the outcome, please, please not McCall or Irons.

  8. Why is this QOS' fault? It's not up to them to check the schedule of the opposition prior to agreeing to the game. The fault here is squarely with Rotherham. It doesn't take a genius to work out that, unless you have a squad of about 25 players, that playing two games in two days is going to be tough.

Complete and utter contempt and disrespect shown by the Rotherham management towards QOS and both sets of fans.

Personally I think both clubs are partly to blame. Obviously Rotherham could and should have fielded at least 4, maybe 5 first team members even if it was for just 45 minutes, then I would imagine most people would have been happy. However, once Queens were aware that the Rotherham side would be made up of youth and development squad players..this was made clear on the visitors website on Friday evening..Queens had every opportunity to reduce the admission price which I feel has been the main bone of contention. Quite clearly to be asked to pay £10 to watch what was in fact nothing more than a training match, did not go down so well. In any event the least Queens could have done via website, social media etc would have been to inform the fans of the change of circumstances, this way punters could have made their decision whether or not to attend having full knowledge of the facts. The people I felt sorry for were obviously the visiting fans from Yorkshire.

  9. Just about what I would have said.

As for the game it's just as well we were playing their development squad and that they tired as we were awful in the first half. At home in a friendly and McIntyre is playing one up top. Really hope he isn't contemplating playing that system this season, does he not remember how the last one started?

Although Baird might have started the game as a lone striker, I thought his link up play in the game was pretty good. His movement and awareness to get into the 'right' positions on several occasions was also good to see. As a proven goalscorer, I certainly expect him to be amongst the goals for Queens this season. Difficult to judge just how good he could be based on playing against yesterday's opponents, but his talent for finding the back of the net on a regular basis throughout his career will be a big bonus for Queens

  10. The bizarre bit was, obviously, in relation to your "on current form" caveat.

So we have 8 players who wouldnt "walk" into any other team in the league. Dowie, I wouldnt start for us (and didnt start on Saturday), McGuffie I would consider a squad player, same with McShane and Dzierzawski, the latter has been in the country a few months and played half a dozen games. That leaves Young and Lyle.

    What was your point again?

You wouldn't start Dowie, Saturday was the first time he hadn't started all season, same with McGuffie, and you haven't expressed your views on Mitchell or Higgins. My point was that perhaps the team is not as good as everybody keeps saying we are. Also what makes you think Paton could get into any other team, he is really nothing more than average, really do not see what the fuss is about him, and as for wee Danny, even you must admit that although he has undoubted ability, we have not seen any of it this season

  11. On current form, none of them, obviously ... what a bizarre thing to say. Other than that, Durnan, Holt, McKenna, Burns, Paton, Carmichael and Russell would get a game for most sides.

The one thing AJ did, very, well was to put together a successful team. In many ways, it was greater than the sum of the parts. McIntyres team is currently less than

Bizarre is it, so according to you, Mitchell, Higgins, Dowie, McGuffie, Young, McShane, Dzierzawski, Lyle, would not 'walk' into any other team which kind of emphasises my original point, have not seen too many people coming on here to suggest that they would like any Queens players, on the other hand, so many from other Championship teams could walk straight into our current line-up. You say of the list that you compiled that they would 'get a game for most sides', by that I take it you mean the teams in the bottom half of the table? Not really convinced that Hamilton, Falkirk, Raith or Dundee would look to strengthen their team with Queens players, especially as they had the chance to do so during the transfer window.

  12. If we have such a good team, how many Queens players, on current form, would make the starting line-up of any other teams in the league? Possibly Russell, and Holt, and Kevin D when fully fit. Player for player, every other team has someone better in that position than Queens have, so it is possible that the team is not as good as some people think, hence the current position.

  13. My big concern is that Mitchell , Carmichael and Durnan will be wanting to leave soon. This could get worse.

My concern is that we are not scoring enough, so far in the league it's 11 goals from 8 games, and considering 7 of those were scored in the opening 2 games, the return of just 4 from the remaining 6 games is shocking. We have opened the scoring just once in the league all season, and although we have created chances, we are just not lethal enough in front of goal. With regards to the 3 players you mention, Mitchell and Carmichael have struggled this season as you well know, and Durnan will only play if Higgins or Dowie do not, unless JM changes to a back 3? Not sure where they would move to, but on current form, there will not be too many clubs seeking them out.

  14. Seems a lot of people are still trying to compare last season's achievements with our form and ambitions for this season.. IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT. We were too good for for the other teams in the 2nd division last year as the margin by which we won the title shows. We are now in a higher division, according to some not as hard a division as it has been in previous years, but a higher division none the less. The majority of teams in the Championship are full time unlike all of the other teams in last years 2nd div. The very fact that these teams are playing in a higher division means they have better players (or players who can perform more consistently on a regular basis), better facilities and better coaching. We have started this season with virtually the same squad as last season, minus TOP SCORER and BEST KEEPER in the division, adding an experienced central defender, a virtually inexperienced goalie, an experienced striker/midfielder, and an American midfielder whose is as yet an unknown quantity, but the basis of the squad is the same. Playing in a higher and better division (FACT), trying to bed in new players with the existing squad, a new manager with his own plans, a new backroom staff, new playing surface, all reasons I believe that you can't use last season's achievements as a yardstick to how we will do this season. If we have the players to do well this season it will be because they are good enough to make the step up, not because of what they did last season. Some will show they are good enough but for others it may be a step too much. Quotes of "last season we did this" or " the way we played last season" mean nothing this season.

Great memories but, draw a line under it, move on, and hopefully upwards. A NEW division, a NEW challenge which in the end will hopefully give us plenty of good memories.

    "COME ON YOU QUEENS"

One of the best, and most sensible of posts that I have read this season.

  15. Anyone that says Brannigan deserves to be sacked are speaking absolute nonsense as far as Im concerned. To achieve 4th place and a cup final with a squad that size is nothing short of brilliant. Clearly the players all respected him and at the end of the day thats all that matters.

It wasn't just the size of the squad that hindered Brannigan, it was the fact that key players were either injured or suspended during a good part of the season. There is no doubt that Queens 1st choice team, if they had remained injury and suspension free for longer, they could have been more involved at the top of the table. Let's not forget also that during the month of March, Queens played 9 league games, the equivalent of a quarter of a season, which would have been hard enough for a squad twice the size of the one Queens had. I fully agree that his efforts were nothing short of brilliant, and at the start of the campaign, Queens finishing 4th would have been accepted by all, just as right now with no manager, hardly any players, the fixtures not released, a ball yet to be kicked, I would take 8th place right now for the season ahead!!!!!!
