    Wasn't that 2018?

Aye, you're correct. Probably the reason I forgot to put it in my list earlier. Either that or I was listening on Spotify which was the Deluxe Version (2019) 🙂

  6. Been away for the best part of January so only now getting the chance to listen to new stuff.

So far my list consists of only one album ...

Steve Mason - About The Light

Fantastic album and possibly his best music since his Beta Band days.

Will give the Maggie Rogers album a listen on account of a few people mentioning her on this thread.

  8. Not had much time to read this last few days but finished 'The Rise and Fall Of The Miraculous Vespas' by David F. Ross this morning.

    Great stuff again.

The Miraculous Vespas are a fictional band from Kilmarnock in the early 80s. Featuring various characters from 'The Last Days of Disco'  and many others including Billy Sloan, The Mary Chain, Orange Juice and Boy George.  Lots of laughs, Ayrshire gangsters, Glasgow music venues, drugs, alcohol and violence.

    Highly recommended.

  9. Listening to an African music playlist at the moment.

Mostly music from an old NME compilation cassette from back in the mid 80s.

Current track is Mele by Somo Somo.

Great stuff but the sunny vibe doesn't quite fit in with the weather outside

  10. Finished 'This Is Memorial Device' by David Keenan.

One of my favourite books  in a long time.  Memorial Device are a fictional post-punk band from Airdrie and this is their story told through a series of interviews with members of the band and various people from the scene.

Sex, drugs, rock n roll and death.

You end up wishing that they had been a real band.

Also read 'Good Me, Bad Me' by Ali Land on my wife's recommendation. Told through the eyes of a teenage girl whose mother is a serial killer.  Not a book that I would have picked myself but decent enough if mostly unbelievable.  Read it in  less than a day which probably says everything.

Now reading 'The Rise Of The Miraculous Vespas' by David F. Ross, follow up of sorts to 'The Last Days of Disco' . Again set in Kilmarnock and featuring some characters from his previous novel. Not far enough in to tell the plot but going well so far.

  11. Just read 'The Last Days Of Disco' by David F. Ross

Two friends decide to try their hand at mobile DJing. pissing off the local gangster in the process. Set in early 80's Ayrshire, mainly Kilmarnock, Troon and surrounding areas. Few laugh out loud moments and more than a few moments I can relate to given my attempts at DJing in my younger days. Well worth a read. 8/10

Now onto 'This Is Memorial Device' by David Keenan.  A story about Airdrie's finest, fictional, post-punk band.

As usual I finished a few at once.

Men Without Women/Haruki Murakami - Collection of short stories by Murakami.  All of them dealing with dealing with his usual themes of love, loneliness, regret. The titular story was particularly touching. A nice collection.

Under the Volcano/Malcolm Lowry - Heavy going but rewarding and rather original novel set in Mexico during the day of the dead as a man drinks his way to oblivion. Very well written.

Norwegian Wood/Haruki Murakami - There was a time when this was my favourite novel. Now I'm a little older I found the book too long and one of the main characters (Midori) particularly annoying. Prefer his usual magic realism which this book was a big change from.

I've got Norwegian Wood in my to read again pile.  Enjoyed it first time around, wonder if I'll be so impressed second time around!

Got Dance, Dance, Dance at Christmas but haven't got round to reading it yet.

Men Without Women sounds worth getting hold of :)

I got to see the film for free last year.

I still felt ripped off. Utter shite.

Haven't watched the film but my daughter told me the film was dreadful so will definitely be giving it a miss. Wouldn't recommend the book either tbh. I was probably being generous giving it 5/10 ;)

  14. Read Telling Stories by Tim Burgess yesterday. One of the best music bios I've ever read.  His musical influences pretty much mirror my own throughout the book but the drug and drink excesses thankfully don't :o 8/10

Before that I had an unexpected few days in hospital and asked my wife to bring me up a book or two. For some reason she bypassed the pile of unread books beside the bed and brought me two of the eldest daughter's books instead. So in Crosshouse Hospital just before Christmas I read ...

The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey 5/10

The Loney by Andrew Michael Hurley 6/10

Finally,  spent New Year on Arran reading Kerby by Graeme Johnston.  Subtitled 'Funny Tales From A  1990's Scottish Childhood', well I did laugh (final chapter) but until then it was pretty much struggling to justify the 49p I paid for it in the local charity shop. Sorry 2/10

  15. Not my choice of listening to be fair but heard the new song from Liam Payne on the radio at work and honestly ... wtf?

It's almost as if he had been invited onto X  Factor at the weekend and had 5 minutes to write and record something.

Genuinely, I think this is probably the worst song I've ever heard.

Also at work, Radio X gets played a fair bit. Liam Gallagher seems to be on constant rotation. Why?

Every song they play sounds like the last one and the last one is invariably a pile of sh*t.

And don't get me started on that Catfish mob. Sh*te name, sh*te band.

    :thumbsdown

Get some stretching or foam rolling done at the end of your run to combat stiffness later on, it works.Don't think you have any fitness worries if you can run thirteen miles and well done on that. not many unfit half marathoners.

Went on a run this morning with no planned distance or route ended up doing eight miles in glorious sunshine alongside the sea with a nice cool breeze, lovely.

Any recommendations for a foam roller? Looked at them recently but thought they were a bit expensive at the time (pre hamstring pain).

  17. Been feeling my left hamstring a bit recently so have cut back on the running. Been feeling better the last few days so planned a half marathon distance run for today. First time doing this distance and struggled a wee bit towards the end. Breathing was fine but left leg started to play up a bit again.  Feeling very stiff now and a bit more realistic about my fitness and distance ability but happy to have managed it.
