100%.  Guy behind me at Dens was berating Bair after the penalty miss - "just reminding us how shite he really is" etc and then therefore couldn't bring himself to celebrate his goal 2 mins later as a result.

I love these guys so much. Leaving Dens with the score at 2-2 in their world must've been shite for them as everyone else got to leaving knowing it was 2-3.

As far as I'm aware the new road is a good boundary, aye. There's a massive chunk of land that's hidden by bushes that has nothing on it. They've got planning permission for flats and have done for years, but it's looked at as perfect for a "community hub".

It'll likely just be a mini sports centre. Saints in the Community currently host a huge amount of training sessions throughout the week for a variety of age groups at the stadium, but the indoor part is limited. Presumably they'd plan to build a bigger indoor pitch for that. They've talked about wanting a place to provide more community based projects that aren't just "kick a ball about too", so it might provide them room for classrooms.

This is class, btw. Love that.

Aye. I doubt we'll win the appeal although it would be very funny if we did but fair fucks make an argument. That said, if Lee Miller and Neil McCann are on the panel then we're sorted.

Genuine question, has yer man Napier had decisions overturned in the past?

The obvious comparison would be the one Watt got put off against us for, which was a similar situation, and was overturned. I think the difference will ultimately be that Watt caught Goss with the end of his toe.

Vale caught all of McKenzie with his whole foot. It's a red, IMO. Vale with little intent or maliciousness in it at all, but it is very clumsy.

But while you can live with that to an extent with an outfielder, you want a goalie who saves and inspires you precisely when things are bad.

Honestly I just want competence at the stuff you're meant to do, over 'inspirational'. It's why I loved Gillespie, because his 'spectacular' moments were relatively limited compared to Kelly, probably?

But in a very Roy Keane way 'doing his job' he was exceptional at.

The interesting thing with McAlear was that it was implied that he'd told us he wouldn't be signing a new deal - so we went ahead and accepted whatever it was Norwich were offering. He was 17 when we accepted the deal.

Genuinely just realised Reece McAlear is currently 22 years old, which feels impossibly young. Lol. He's an odd one, as he felt like the obvious next one up following Turnbull's inevitable departure, and we obviously rated him, but a couple of Championship spells aside, not much to go on.

Freezing prices is decent like. Still pricey, but fair play.

As you say, the demographic has massively changed, we don't get the luxury these days of a player of Turnbull's ilk becoming a regular at 19. Players getting snapped up before then plays a part, but I still think to an extent, the lack of anyone 18 - 21 on our fringes is still playing catchup from COVID. Lennon Miller has already played an abnormal amount of football for a player of his age. A number of factors come into that - the new demographic of the youth team, the fact he is a sellable asset and also the fact that he just looks ready - he's got a build and maturity beyond his years. I think if we weren't against the clock to get a transfer fee for him, we might use him slightly more sparingly for the sake of his development, but the club needs to look after itself.

To compare the two, my gut instinct would be that Robinson would have used Miller at 16 / 17 in the environment he had to work with, a lot more sparingly. However, I would also say that Kettlewell, in the environment he is working with, would have used Turnbull at 16 / 17 a lot more sparingly, if at all yet. I think Miller's physical readiness plays a massive part in how prominent he has been.

I suppose this is where it's important that the club makes it clear that actually; we're better for your development. That demographic has been a constant for the last decade, in that time we've seen guys like Ben Hall, Robbie Leitch (Who can forget that saga), Hastie, Rice, probably some others I forget. None of whom have come close to what Turnbull has achieved either in minutes nor triumphs.

The Turnbull and Miller examples (And I suppose Johnston as well now) are the best of these, where it is made abundantly clear to young players that yes; there's better money elsewhere, there's other opportunities at bigger clubs, but the chances of you playing regularly are slim. You are good enough here to be a first-team regular, and your next move is one to another club where you'll play.

McAlear and Rice took moves straight to another youth team/another team and are they better for it? Probably not. Were they good enough to contribute anyway? A question that doesn't really have an answer, but I suspect that Rice in particular would be better served standing next to Lennon Miller on a Saturday than he is sitting in the stand for 30 weeks a year.

Aye i like Scales but what strikers are finding it tougher against Scales than against Kent/any Killie CB?

I'd argue a McCowan should be in there instead of McGregor or Lundstram too.

McCowan has been fantastic but I'd still have Spittal ahead of him.

Kent over CCV for me, simply as CCV has been in and out so much. He's better, Kent with a better season IMO.

Whatever happened to that Martinez guy?

That time we played United on the final day in 2007 when we'd stayed up (just) and had zip to play for. Bobby Martinez arrived as folk queued at the turnstile, some laddie said "Hey that's Roberto Martinez". I'd say he spoke pretty loudly, because Bobby heard him, turned around and gave a cheery wave to the queue who mainly nodded/smiled back.

The same laddie then followed this up with "He was fucking shite." at basically the same volume. Bobby was not happy.

They seem to be a bunch of bottle merchants that have blown chance after chance to get ahead of Dundee United to gain automatic promotion.

 Bit rough, that? United are (as we know!) chucking money at guys like Watt, Gallagher and Moult.

Do wonder if it's Easton. We've been linked with Byrne half a dozen times (though I guess he is a Dundee player), and Stanton is good but probably not at this level?

Easton has been all the way down and worked his way back up by being an absolute baller, so that would possibly fit.

I’ve been quite vocal about the fact that our best option when Butcher was out to me would have been McGinn in the middle. As close to a like for like as Butcher as we had. Similar style and to me would have given a more calming influence in the middle I think.

He also doesn't continually pick up bookings for random acts of violence.

People got bent out of shape when we were signing jobbers from the lower leagues in England, I can't really criticise for giving an academy player a run as he's probably one of the fairly rare instances of graduate whose ceiling could simply have been our first team.

With the chat around 2/3 of what will be our longest serving players potentially leaving, we could really do with someone that's exactly this.
