  1. Fair enough. It's basically only the first years that wear the hoodies. The only reason I wear a hoodie anyway is that I'm in the committee for it, and it makes sense to wear it at events so folk know who you are, makes you more approachable and that. Still, the hoodies this year are quite smart, and are popular. In previous years, when they've been shite only the gimps have worn them. I don't think that people that wear them this year round uni are twats or are trying to show off, which was the point of this petty argument in the first place. I know there are plenty of gimps who do law.
  2. Fair enough, if that's what you've come across from your personal experience. That's not the way I see it but I'm not going to argue with you about it. What course are you doing? To be fair you'd probably classify as a zany student type. But I've drank out a shoe, or stolen a road sign. I just get that impression that's what you'd think of me.. Don't think there's much wrong with that though. You're only at uni once, and should make the most of it.
  3. I'll come along on Wednesday, would be good to put faces to a few names. And I'll let you know when the next Law Soc thing is happening, there's been heaps of non-lawyers at every event so far.
  4. But every Law society is different depending on which uni you go to. Just like every student union is different and every sports association is different. Out of interest where do you study? We'll just have to disagree on that one. The fact that the Law society is widely recognised as one of the biggest and best clubs at Glasgow Uni makes a difference. The social side to it is fantastic, and this year all the nights out have been awesome. If like at some uni's the Law society was shite, then no one would wear the hoodie. I'm the exact opposite of that. I only ever wear my Law hoodie at actual Law society events, you'll very rarely see me wearing it around uni, and never if I was going anywhere else. I personally am in the position that when most people who aren't at uni ask me what I study I say something rather than law because I feel slightly uncomfortable about it. Smugness? I think not. Why would anyone wear a blue t-shirt when they could wear a green one. It's a petty petty point you're trying to make.
  5. Not me, but if you gave me five guesses I'd get there. GUSSC is utter class though. Definitely worth going along to a social, or if you can stretch to it a full ski trip. I'm in the same boat. I can see why people think its pretentious/posh or whatever to wear one, but if you're just wearing it around uni I can't see the problem. And to say that anyone who wears one is a twat is just total ignorance. I'd be keen for that sometime, but can't make it on Tuesday, got St. Johnstone v Dundee United to deal with. And finally comiserations to Exuberant who failed to get a position on the Law Society Committee as a first year rep. A hot girl got it instead. I wonder why.
  6. Don't worry. I took no offence, because I personally don't wear them. I still don't see what the problem is though. Please explain.
  7. There are quite a few w**kers on the law course, who as you can expect are so far up their own arses its unreal. Luckily most of them have no social life, and spend all their hours in the library, and so don't bother the Law Society with their presence. Anyone you do see wondering around in a Law Society hoodie will be a first year though. That's fairly normal. Anyone kicking around Glasgow Uni is most welcome at the next Law Society event (lawyer or not) and hopefully that will clear away any misconceptions. We booked Radio on Ashton Lane, and the place was rammed full.
  8. Ha, I'll let you off then Supras. I've completely relinquished my school identity too.
  9. I haven't worn my leavers hoodie in over a year, and wear my Law one only at Law Society events, so the first years know that I'm in the Committee. That OK?
  10. I think you'll find that the bulk of folk that wear leavers hoodies, and Law Society HOODIES are from state schools anyway.
  11. What does it do then? I think Exuberant's point was that if he wears his hoodie to the GU, then he doesn't get asked to prove that he is at Glasgow Uni, because it is fairly obvious from what he is wearing. He doesn't wear the hoody exclusively to get a drink. FWIW I never have a problem getting a drink in the GU, and don't think other folk do either.
  12. I don't really see what's wrong with wearing a leavers hoodie either. Do people not have better things to do than critcise what people wear? I'm sure you're all at the height of fashion yourselves.
  13. It was never. Until some clueless fannies started slagging off Glasgow University, and in particular the Law Society. When clearly you and several others have actually no idea what the Law Society does.
  14. I don't see in the slightest how that is tragic? Why does it matter what someone wears?
  15. Probably why I've been a member for a year and have 12 posts.
  16. I'm in GUSSC (the ski club) and am a pretty active member going on both overseas trips last year. It's a fantastic social club, and I've met so many folk through it. I'm also on the committee for the Law Society, so I know exactly how much money both clubs spent on their relevant events. The Law Society one was exclusively for first years and funded by the Law School itself. I personally bought 80 bottles from the cash and carry for it. Which equated to roughly half a bottle for each person attending. The ski club one was for all years, and was a much bigger event, with more people attending. They had 100 bottles of wine, which meant each person got less than folk did that attended the Law one. I know cheese and wine sounds gay. But it's a traditional Glasgow Uni event and most clubs and societies have one. It's essentially just a piss up with minimal cheese kicking about.
  17. Put it this way, I can tolerate him Except when he starts to sing 'and it's Partick Thistle, Partick Thistle FC....' infront of over 150 people in Radio on Ashton Lane on Wednesday...
  18. He didn't buy it to get into the union. He bought it because it's well designed, comfortable and actually looks quite smart. And it's a hoodie, not a blazer. The fact that you think the Law Society would have a blazer shows how little you know. That's the problem with this forum, and why I never write on it.
  19. If you're looking for one of them try Edinburgh or St Andrews. There are a few of them kicking about Glasgow, but he's definitely not one of them. Controversially opinionated maybe, but certainly not a posh c**t.
  20. You did go on the subcrawl. But you never came to Viper afterwards. That's cheating.
  21. Don't be an idiot. To say that people who wear university hoodies are 'generally twats' is ridiculous. I don't know if you go to uni or not, or have been in the past, but that's such a ridiculous statement to make. I personally don't wander around Uni on a standard day wearing my Law Society or Ski Club hoodie, but each to their own. Just because somewhere wears something doesn't make them a twat. I personally never wear a football top anymore, because I think they should be reserved solely for matchdays. That doesn't make anyone who does wear one a twat though.
  22. What are you trying to imply? I've personally met Exuberant/Mr Benn (whatever you want to call him) and he's more than a little unique. A statement like someone personifies a place with nearly 20,000 people is crazy. I've been at Glasgow Uni for three years now, and fair enough there are a fair few groups of cliquey individuals attached to the unions and sports clubs etc, but I'm fascinated by how you think Exuberant personifies Glasgow Uni.
