  1. Apart from the nonsense of shuffling round one or two shops every week and having to follow arrows or smother your hands in some unknown substance, lockdown for me was great. The weather in April and May that year was fantastic and I've never spent more time outdoors. I was genuinely gutted when it ended but I have been WFH since then which suits me much better.

He was a very decent keeper I thought. He surprised many of us off the back of the feedback from Killie fans. 15 clean sheets in a season is pretty good.

I am however happy to move on and welcome the new goalie in. We have a very good record of recruiting goalkeepers and this new guy seems to have a good pedigree. Played at a few different levels and at a decent age too. A key area to have covered so early for the new season ahead.

He doesn't seem to have many games under his belt and the most he has played in a season seems to be 15 .

My fellow P&B runners may be interested to know that on Friday, I'm running the entire Isle of Arran for the second time in almost exactly a year.

It's 56 miles round, with over 1100m elevation. My research last time led me to believe it was 900m, so that was a rude surprise when my watch hit 900m and I still knew of several horrible climbs still to come.

I commute to the island, working for a charity over there. Last year I had the idea that we could maybe raise £1,000 by doing this, and it went crazy in the day or so around the actual challenge and ended up raising over 5K.

It was ridiculously difficult, so I'd definitely have quit in the back half if it hadn't been for the amazing fundraiser.

Anyway, that was last May, and now on the 24th I find myself attempting it again. Must be aff ma heid, but it's for a good cause.

A few links, for the curious...

The charity's page is www.facebook.com/ArranYouthFoundations - there'll be a GPS tracker link on the day, and probably a few live videos. Based on last year, these will either feature my yammering away to the camera very positively, or sitting in a camping chair close to tears, bemoaning having an entire second marathon plus another few miles on top to go. So that'll be fun.

The short film about last year's run can be found below

Lastly, the fundraiser if anyone fancies throwing a few quid at this very silly thing is  https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/arran

    Some effort. Well done 👍

Absolutely no doubt it happened, just where I sit it was restricted to more general ‘oh FFS’ stuff. No surnames added. In fact, the linesman received the most personal abuse when he tossed his water bottle onto the pitch and even though he knew he’d done it, and a player could have stood  on it, the officious wee chunt ignored it for a couple of minutes.

It wasn't his. Armstrong threw it over after the water break and it didn't reach the edge of the pitch.

Do you Gen Play at all? I pretty much put a card in for every round I play

I've never handed in a Gen Play card. Anything which isn't a counter tends to be 10-14 holes after work in the summer. Some Sunday full rounds with someone who isn't a member. I think I need to rethink the cards posted based on the number of rounds you have all mentioned 😄

I reckon I usually have around 25-30 scoring rounds per year, although I play on a links that's in decent nick all year round.

Game is in the shitter atm though.

Thanks for this. I would have expected a minimum of 20 scoring rounds a year for me but looking more closely at last year I hardly played in April (football) and only 1 mid week counter all season. Need to change that this year.

  8. Out of interest, how many medal cards do you all post over the season? I felt like I played most Saturdays last season from April to the end of September but it appears I only played in 12 handicap counters which doesn't seem like many.  The rest was taken up with Scrambles, pairs, other team comps etc.

  9. Got the handicap down from 8.9 to 6.8 last Saturday. Best ever score off the whites, but was 1 under par standing on the 17th tee and finished double-bogey, bogey to finish 2 over. Delighted and gutted 😄

I'm just over the water at Cowal and keep meaning to come over and play Routenburn - was the layout changed recently?

Yes, 17th has been shortened by about 100 yds , new green, and is now a par 4. Other than a few bunkers being filled in and turfed offer, that's it.

How’s everyone’s course looking lads? Mines is on matts for at least another 7 days but there is hope with the forecast that it should dry out

First medal for me today (Routenburn). Very wet and boggy in places but the greens were decent. Drainage is usually excellent but the course just hasn't had time to breathe before the next downpour arrives.

Can't say I do - he's a great player on his day, and a European.  Very impressive round today midway through an injury comeback. Some folk seem annoyed that he had the audacity to win the Masters.

I get all of that, there is just something about him I don't take to (don't know what it is). I was happy for him when he won it.

Our bar account has it's own section on the balance sheet so it's easy to see how good or bad it is doing.  The figures are certainly boosted by private functions, clubhouse was very busy today with a funeral party in.

We've just had a survey that was specifically about the bar and kitchen, not heard the outcome yet.

One of the biggest ongoing cost concerns at the moment is keeping the bunkers to a good standard. The price of good quality sand is apparently sky high at the moment, costing anywhere between 6 and 10k per bunker depending on the size. They are considering filling a few in to save a bit of cash every year.

I play at a council run course (with a club membership) and last year almost all of our bunkers were filled in and re-turfed. In fairness some of them were always GUR but the cost to sand and maintain was becoming too costly.
