  1. It's been mentioned on the other thread and the AVFTT thread, but Craig Brown. I've had the pleasure of his company through work on a couple of occasions and each time I met him I've enjoyed his company and his stories a lot. The story about his grandson's favourite player being the only one who thanked him for returning the ball while he was a ball boy is true, and Craig said he insisted that all his players thanked ball boys/girls at every stadium for returning the ball afterwards. Makes sense as it's just common courtesy. In any case Craig was great with everyone, had fantastic stories and I'd gladly spend time with him again. If he ever released a podcast of all his good stories from the past I'd devour it.

Very pleased with the draw. Probably our best chance to make it to the semi-final since 2009, provided we don't have a shock in the 4th round.

Provided we can both get through it should be a good game. Both sides will see it as a big chance to go on to potential glory with no Hearts and one of the OF going no further than the next round.

  3. Good win - maybe didn't play as well as we could have done and could probably have scored more, but I'm happy enough with 4-0 and being in the hat.

Enjoyed the Stenny TV coverage - props to Cammy, @Francesc Fabregas and @craigkillie as well as the behind-the-scenes guys as the commentary was good and added to the game. I had a slight issue where the commentary was slightly ahead of the pictures by a second or two which was a minor annoyance but very good value for £8. All the best to Stenny for the rest of the season, hopefully you guys can finish the season on a high.

I caught up on it and just had to check the prediction League-so well done to Shaughan for an exciting last minute winner. The American guy having a go at various pronunciations of Airdrie (onians) was amusing. It's said to be a Gaelic word derived word which made me wonder how many other League sides have such names? (Inverness?)  Good show again and maybe they should be invited on to Sportscene for the Euros.

I know Kilmarnock comes from Cille Mearnaigh, and translates as place of or church of St. Marnock. Anywhere that has "Kil" at the start of the word comes from a church that someone ancient set up and can date back to Gaelic times.

Ian McMillan for someone who is well up in the country's best ever is completely unassuming, always got time for people. In fact he finds it quite surprised they want to.

All the Airdrie managers I knew Stewart, Coyle, Black, Boyle, players like Prunty, McPhee, Gow, McManus. Less "big names" David Dunn, Mark MGeown, Willie Wilson. Even dafties like Willie McLaren and Stephen McKeown were all good guys and volunteered for stuff away from football. Usually all on the condition of being fed.

Brian Rice who isn't normally associated with Airdrie, Kenny Brannigan not known for his genial side are another two good sorts.

Second this. Was at the HoF dinner at Hampden where he was inducted and he was a gentleman, more than happy to reel off old stories about Broomhill and Ibrox.

Another one I remembered today was Lee Miller. In my old job at the Hampden museum I'd have to take kids parties round the place and one day there was a West Lothian kids' team having a trop there for their prizegiving. Miller was playing for Livi at the time - it wasn't long before he went to manage Falkirk - and he was brilliant. Chatted to everyone, loads of time for the kids and their folks too. When you get guys like that it restores your faith in humanity ever so slightly.

  6. Ally McCoist. At Kris Boyd's testimonial at RP McCoist was managing the Rangers XI and was brilliant with everyone. Went all the way along the disabled section close to the dugouts of his own accord and made time for everyone - was more than happy to do selfies and autographs with everyone. I remember him being the same when I was a kid and he was at Killie, just a smashing guy.

  7. Feeling much better about things after the performance yesterday. While Motherwell were fairly poor by their standards, especially in the second half, we did really well to take advantage of that. Kyle Lafferty is very much the difference and I really hope that if he can keep getting a goal a game roughly that can be the difference to keep us afloat. The big worry is we still conceded so quickly after going ahead, we have to get Rogers back in goal. Much as neither goalie is who you'd necessarily want as your first choice, Rogers is much better than poppadom wrists. Bit of a shame there's no game next weekend to build the momentum up, but by contrast I think having the extra week of training with Wright has helped to get more of his ideas over to the players. All wee need is for Lafferty to come back injury and virus-free from the Northern Ireland squad and it'll be dandy.

  8. All of our hens are coming home to roost now. More fool me for thinking after we went ahead that we might have been able to actually do it today. We are where we are on merit and I don't think you'll see anyone in our support argue otherwise.

I'm resigned to accepting the inevitable now. If we somehow get ourselves out of this one then it'll be a minor miracle. From what I see of County and Hamilton they both have a bit of fight about themselves and the ability to produce results against bigger teams too. We don't have that. Ah well Premiership, it was nice knowing you...

Ayr's brutalist offering. The Dam Park. I've posted previous pictures but this one shows the wee hall at the back, conjuring up memories of kwenchy cups and 10p bags of crisps at school and BB competitions and finals day at the Ayr International Youth Tourney.

The only game I've ever seen there was the Ayrshire Schools Cup Final in May 2009 - my pals at Grange had a decent team that year and were up against either Loudoun from Galston or St. Joseph's, also from Kilmarnock. I travelled down with my mate who was in the team but injured and it was a miserable night, one of those early summer nights that's somehow freezing. Grange lost and we got soaked, before going home for a spot of not-quite-legal boozing. The team did win the Killie Cup at RP soon afterwards though which was excellent.

I reckon the brutalist designs are functional, but mainly they're just a bit ugly. The Gala Fairydean one does stand out though, it's quite iconic with its angular design.

  10. A very frustrating game from a Killie perspective. Did everything but put the ball in the net, and paid the price for a moment of slackness at the back. After tonight's performance I'm definitely feeling a bit better about the prospects of staying up, but there's still a lot of work to do. Our strikeforce is poor, a sharper striker on the pitch would have seen us up 2-0 at the break. As it is, we barely tested Kelly in the 'Well net - Kabamba is an incredibly frustrating player to watch given how many times he was offside and the fact that his best header was in the final minute and was right at the goalie.

Not quite good enough yet, but the organisation shows that it's already night and day compared to the mess under the previous management team.

I've never been to Wales. Been to Tennessee, Ireland, all over Europe. Never Wales.

Seeing that photo of Terry Yorath has made me even less inclined to go. Also, the beer gives you the boak, so I've heard.

I went to Wales once. We don't talk about the aftermath of it.

Mad to think the amount of railways there used to be in Glasgow in comparison to now. To think the ones that were removed would all probably be viable to run now, especially when we're trying to get people to use more public transport and be a bit greener.

  12. I started watching Killie in 96/97, I'm too young to remember the days of Tommy Burns and the revival of the club after going down to the second division. I do remember the buzz around the town when we got to the final and the buzz that was there for a good while afterwards, so for me that was pretty good.

The early 00s were alright - other than the cup final disappointments of 01 and 07 and the disappointment of being utterly gash and Gretna saving us in 08, it was a largely stable period where we had good youth prospects making it to the first team.

The 10s started with a big let-off for us, but the cup final win over Celtic was absolutely magic. Unfortunately a year later started the dross that came under Johnston, then the near-escape from relegation in the play-offs, then a bit of stability under Lee Clark. After that came the gloom of the McCulloch tenure, but when Steve Clarke came it started probably the most enjoyable time I've ever had as a Killie fan and I only wish it had lasted a bit longer. Since then it's been a bit of a hangover from then - but to answer the question I'd have to say despite the lows the 10s were my favourite time as the highs more than made up for it.
